Chapter 102: Chapter 102
I saw her smile. "I'm glad you still know me."
I'm not sure how to respond. Even today, I'm not sure if her being here is genuine or sarcastic.
"What are you doing here?" I asked formally, trying to ignore some of my feelings.
"Well, I'm with someone. We would like to hire you as the architect of the house I'm going to build," she answered.
She will do it herself?
I couldn't help but arch my brows. As if on cue, a woman in her fifties approached her. I blinked many times as the adrenaline in my chest thumped.
I didn't even ask because I already knew who she was. Her looks were similar to his. Her eyes, nose, lips, and facial expressions remind me of Agustine.
"Anyway, meet Aunt Rosella, my fiance's mother. Aunt, meet Khrystal. One of Agustine's business partners," Lhea formally introduced.
I tried to smile as she looked at me. Serious and not disrespectful, but even so a bit of anger that I saw from her eyes did not escape from me. I swallowed involuntarily and then gently pointed to the chair in front of my desk with my open palm.
"Have a seat," I said.
Without saying a word, they walked closer and sat on both visitor's chairs.
"I hope I didn't make you uncomfortable with our presence," Lhea uttered.
I hesitate to smile. "It's okay."
I don't get it. Why are we in this situation?
If I happened to be in her place, I would never face the woman who stole my future husband like this. I would never think of going to her or talking to her first. I couldn't help but wonder if she really wanted me to be an architect or something else.
Is it about Agustine? Does she think I'm flirting with her husband again?
With that thought, I secretly glanced at her finger. I smiled bitterly when I saw the engagement ring there. It's confirmed, they are together. Whether they are married or not.
Lord, is this a sign?
I immediately felt depressed for my children. The second time I tried to tell Agustine the truth about their existence, fate tested me again.
"So, like I said, I want you to become our architect," Agustine's partner stated.
I faked a smile. "Does it have to be me?"
I saw Agustine's mother focus her attention on me after that. I simply straightened up and sipped softly.
"I mean, I'm not that famous," I added.
Lhea smiled sweetly. "But you are skilled. I heard a lot about your projects in America, all of them are good."
I couldn't stop myself from frowning.
She knows?
"I will really appreciate it if you accept my offer. Even if I double the payment, it's okay," she insisted. "Agustine let me use his money." She chuckled.
As time went by, I really got more and more lost. It shouldn't be like this. From Agustine, I can still feel his anger towards me after several years, why is his fiancée showing me the opposite?
"I might be able to accommodate it into my schedule if you tell me what kind of house you plan to build," I gave up to finish everything.
She excitedly clapped her hands and looked at Agustine's mother. "Heard that, Auntie? She's going to build Agustine and I's house!"
I felt a pit in my stomach after hearing that. Maybe because of sadness and pity for my children.
I was caught off guard when I noticed that Agustine's mother had been staring at me. I looked away and tried to smile when Lhea focused her attention on me again.
"Do you have a certain design in mind that you want to be done?" I am formally inquiring.
She got excited and thought. "A two storey house will do. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a balcony, and veranda. That's all. I want it to be simple."
I just nodded while remembering in my mind what she wanted.
"Anyway, Aunt's with me because we want to invite you formally at my engagement party this Sunday."
My jaw fell open. I looked at Lhea's beaming face and blinked numerous times. I afterwards turned my gaze to Agustine's mother since, up until that point, I was unable to make out any sarcasm or hatred on her face. At this point, it seemed as though they had only made a standard invitation.
Engagement party? This year? What a nice timing of my comeback.
"Ahm . . . I don't think I need to be there," I hesitated and laughed raw.
"Come on. We're business partners. If you're thinking about the past, that's okay. Agustine and I are already happy," Lhea insisted.
I don't know if I should grimace, be angry, or feel awkward. I slowly shook my head at the end.
"Thank you for inviting me, but I really think I shouldn't be there," I politely refused.
"Why?"
I was stunned when Agustine's mother seriously interjected. She was staring at me. It was as if she's analyzing my reaction.
I swallowed hard. "I might ruin the party," I answered honestly.
Yes, it was a few years ago, but I'm not sure that people who know have forgotten what happened to Agustine and me. If I show up at their engagement party, I'll look like a pushover or a snitch.
Is that what they want? Is that the reason why they are insisting too much?
To make me look bad or to embarrass me. Does it still involve taking revenge on my family? Is that why I saw anger in her eyes earlier?
The old woman's eyebrow raised. "Are you going to make trouble?"
"Excuse me?" My eyes automatically went wide.
"You are coming as a guest. As our business partner since my son has a contract with your family. I don't see any reason for you to mess up the party," she explained.
I feel like my saliva has dried up and I can't answer. She looked stern and true to her words. No sarcasm. No bad intentions.
But is what I see really true?
I badly wanted to reject the invitation, but in the end, I could do nothing. I nodded slowly as the conversation ended.
"I will try," I simply stated.
Lhea gave me a smile and slowly rummaged her bag. Later he took out an envelope and placed it on my desk.
"Please, don't tell Agustine about the party. It's a surprise," she mumbled.
I couldn't help but purse my lips.
"I planned it," the old woman butted in.
I just nodded and put the invitation on the side of my table. After that, I talked to Lhea again and got other information about the house she was going to build.
While listening to her plans, I can't deny that I felt envy and pity. Not for me but for my twin. If the scene where Agustine and his family are together at the mall is already painful for them, how about when they see Daddy and his family together in a house?
Just thinking about the pain it will cause my children makes me want to hide them away again. But if not now, when will they accept the truth?
I unconsciously let out a deep breath. I was stunned when I focused my eyes on Lhea again, I noticed Agustine's mother staring at me.
Why is she like that?
