Chapter 38: Chapter 38
Chapter 38 No jail overall for Kate
Sooner than usual they returned from the recess. Everyone watched with blinking eyes, and rapt attention as the judge pronounced his judgment.
Over the pew Mrs. Fanny clenched her hands to that of Mrs. Coleman, shut her eyes as the judgment was being pronounced. Kate had shut her eyes, and shook her head in disappointment as she expected the judgment to be against her. She had not been to jail but she had heard a lot of horrible events and lifestyle that hung around jail, and she wasn’t prepared to be the villain or the heroine of jail. As she shut her eyes she pictured her past with Brian, with Tony and she wished she could meet with Brian and ask for his forgiveness before going to jail; she knew she had hurt him but it would be fair to meet with him for the last time and iron out their differences, as for Tony she would want to advise him to turn a new leaf and start loving well… she was thrown into the bed of her imagination when the judge’s voice interrupted her.
“This is the judgment,” the judge said and peered at the audience before he continued, “The case at hand is one with a twist of fate. The plaintiff has answered to the questions and tabled her evidence before the honorable court and a final conclusion has been reached by the jury that the plaintiff who pled not guilty is hereby.”
At that moment Mrs. Fanny held her chest and stared at the floor, dragging and squeezing Mrs. Coleman’s finger. Mr. Coleman was looking at Ken who was biting his finger out of nervousness, and he too was inspired to bite his finger because he was very much trapped in anxiety now. Kate had been stroking her hair, shutting and opening her eyes all along and expecting the bombshell
The judge added “Discharged and acquitted with the condition of paying the sum of fifty thousand dollars, and providing two eligible guarantors,” he pronounced and hit his duck as he stood up to vacate.
“Yes, yes!” chanted Ken as he shook hands with his honorable colleague and turned to Mrs. Fanny who had been hugging Mrs. Coleman since the judgment was pronounced.
Kate bent her face to the podium and covered it with her hands as she shed tears of joy.
“Is ok, we won, calm down,” Mrs. Coleman patted Mrs. Fanny on her back, nursing her as she shed tears of joy.
Ken walked up to them and shook hands with Mr. Coleman. ”You did a good job as usual, Ken,” said Mr. Coleman, shaking him for the second time.
“Justice comes which ever ways, the winning side calls it justice while the losing side cries it is injustice,” Ken said, and stared at Mrs. Fanny who was still shedding tears.
“It had beaten my imagination severally to see our Kate go to jail. No”
Ken had been staring at Mrs. Fanny and noticed how pretty and young she was, even when she cried she looked adorable. Inwardly he agreed he would show her affection by providing the fifty thousand dollars to finalize Kate’s release. He still had more work to do for her and that was to save her husband from going to jail in two days. He drifted to Mrs. Fanny and she quickly hugged him, and felt her big breasts pressing into his chests. He wished she would remain a little longer as he caressed her back and held her waist once she pulled from the hug
“I can’t thank you for saving my daughter from this underworld fate. I thought she wasn’t going to make it,” she said.
“Hell no not when Ken is on the case. I have spent all my life saving people from jail and death sentence, so for someone like you that is special I wouldn’t want to flop because it is like me failing myself.
“We will be on our way now,” said Mr. Coleman to ken and Mrs. Fanny.
Brian rushed to the hospital once he was told that grandma had seizures. When he got there grandma was unconscious. He met with the doctor who narrated further that she would need blood transfusion and artificial oxygen for just one day.
Brian stood by her side and held her hands. He knew grandma was not going to die and would never die under his care. He held his hands and made some utterances.
“Dear grandma, I know I put you in this condition because of my penchant for your happiness. I thought I was doing it to secure your happiness and avoid bringing you in the know that some hoodlums were after me. I did what I had to do to prove to you that I had the opportunity of becoming a bad boy but I declined, I had the opportunity of doing the worst of things that would bring the reputation of our family to nothing yet I declined. Please don’t die now. If you die now, I may end up becoming that bad boy which you never wanted for me. Whatever will make you abandon me now please dislike that thing and heed to my cry,” Brian wept until the doctor walked in and took him away.
When Brian had gone Meyer made it to the hospital and dropped cards and flowers by the bed side and stared at grandma, for one moment regretting her actions and wishing she could turn back the hands of time and make things work out again. She wished grandma would be strong again and she world let her know that she had the authority to hit her however she wanted because she was far way older and even richer if that be the case. Cold spines ran through her skin as goose pimples ravaged her whole being. She underrated the power of words and never counted on the efficiency of words. She dropped the cards, and bent to kiss her on the forehead before she departed.
On her way back home, she decided to branch over to Brian’s to pay him visit for one last time and apologize for the fire she set. Upon getting there she caught sight of some hoodlums bullying Brian and pulling a gun at him. She could see as Mr. Biscuit fought them with his bark and unsteady thumping on the ground. She hid at once and watched the hoodlums threatened to kill grandma at the hospital if he refused them the money. She took her phone and took photos of them before they departed. On a second thought she returned home at once and refused visiting Brian.
The beginning….
