Chapter 36: Chapter 36
Chapter 36 Brian helps Ella put to bed
Brian was at the basketball court with Mr. Biscuit. He had played fervently today and was sweating profusely. He glared at his watch and it was time to visit grandma at the hospital; earlier after Meyer cursed her, she fell ill the night of that day and was rushed to the hospital. Brian had murdered himself severally for pulling such stunt and would never forgive Meyer. Grandma had developed fever and the doctor had complained she had developed high blood pressure- which Brian suspected to be traceable to Meyer’s curse. When his parents called he had lied about grandma’s whereabouts and refused to bring them in the know of her health status.
Mr. Biscuit ran straight to the car and took off from the car to make to the opposite direction; it seemed to have seen someone and Brian called on it, “Biscuit where are you off to? Come back here.” And when Brian ran after it, he saw Meyer, stroking biscuit on the head. “What do you want? What are you doing here?” he commanded Mr. Biscuit, “Biscuit let her be now,”
At once Mr. Biscuit groaned and returned to the car.
Meyer pranced to Brian, “I am sorry,” she said coldly looking at the ground shamefully.
“You are sorry, for the humiliation and pains inflicted on my grandma. I briefed you about her HIV status doesn’t mean you should use it against her. I never told you to go crazy or be stupid while carrying out a simple task a toddler could carry.”
“Hell no, Brian, I was doing well, it was going as planned. I never knew your granny would get on my nerves,” she explained with watery eyes, sniffing.
“Get on your damn nerves? Now tell me what did she do that warrant you to remind her of her status.”
“She slapped me,” Meyer cut in.
“And what again, chopped off your breasts and fed it to the beasts? Or took your face backward? I thought you were a smart ass. I never you were worst than a puppy that has a leaking anus.”
“Brian I am sorry. I am human. If you hadn’t hired me for this task I wouldn’t have cursed your granny.”
“Yes I hired you thinking you wouldn’t flop a simple task. But you have proven to be an example of a spoilt pizza. My granny is at the hospital because of you. You know what; dig two graves if anything should happen to her. Now get out of my way and never want to see you around me or biscuit because I wouldn’t want to cancel Christmas on your ass.” Brian warned, shooting his hostile looks at her.
“Oh my God, I am so sorry, dear for the pain. Please forgive me,” she said and made after him when he wanted to hop into the car. “I have something to tell you?”
“What could that be?” he groaned.
“i- I” she stuttered and put herself together and cleared her throat, “I am in love with you.”
Brian breathed hard and sniffed, “When you wake up every day do you always ask your parents if madness runs in your lineage?”
Meyer frowned and feeling her hands trembling and her knees vibrating.
Brian continued, “If you haven’t been asking them you better do because the girl standing before me is mad and needs a rehab.” He hopped into his Ford and slammed the door.
“Brian please forgive me. I brought the money for you.”
“You need that money more than I do,” Brian said and turned on the engine. “Twenty thousand dollars can change your life and that of your family but not mine.”
He screeched away, as Mr. Biscuit brought its head, staring at Meyer while they swerved the next road.
When Brian drove into the farm he noticed how tranquil everywhere was. The laborers had gathered at Ella’s flat. As he parked his Ford, he ordered Mr. Biscuit into the house while he checked up Ella. When he approached the door he could hear her scream, and he made into her flat and saw the laborers staring at Ella who was helplessly in pains of labor.
“Heaven’s soup!” he exclaimed, looking puzzled and confused as he stared at the laborers and then Ella. “What have you guys been doing? So you just stood and watched her die in labor. He paced up and down the room. Quickly he picked up his phone and dialed the hospital. “All of you should leave now! Get out!” he barked and they dispersed at once. He bent to Ella, “Look at me Ella I am here to help you deliver the baby. Just cooperate with me like the crew members would cooperate with the pilot.” he said to her and she screamed.
Brian reached out to the book. “What is next, what is next?” He whispered within himself as he opened the pages confusedly. “Calm down Brian. This is your time to deliver this baby,” he said within himself. He stood, gazed at the ceiling and recalled how the gynecologist did it at the hospital the other time.
Quickly before anything he washed his hands clean with soup and warm water. He shut his eyes as he washed her vagina area clean with soap and warm water. But he wondered how long he was going to keep shutting his eyes then he opened it and beheld her pink thick vagina. Winter was still heavy in the air and the room was cold so he shut the windows to regulate the temperature. He prayed she should cooperate with him and deliver safely and not through C S. He tried to calm her down and speak peace to her. “You need to make your late husband proud wherever he is, please cooperate with me,” he said to her as she writhed in pain. Brian had been nervous but he tried to take hold of himself. Next he placed a clean shower curtain on the bed and on the floor, also a clean folded towel near her big buttocks for safe landing of the baby. “Don’t push yet, hold on,” he said and positioned himself. “Now you can go on with the contraction.” He reached his hand to her bottom to feel the baby’s head was out as he helped to guide for the first push. “Now a bit push,” he said to Ella and she did with a grunt. Like a slippery seed which spilled from the mouth, the baby came out with ease. “Here we are, a bouncing baby boy,” he said and held the baby with a clean towel to keep it from cold. At once the baby breathed and cried. He gave her the baby to carry so as to quicken the placenta to flush out.
Just then the party of gynecologist drove in, alighted and entered the room; it was then Brian stepped aside.
“You did a good job,” one of them said to Brian and shook hands with him.
“I will come and check on you,” Brian told Ella as she carried her baby, waiting for the placenta to drop.
Ella was ridden in a wheel chair into the ambulance and they drove away.
Brian stood gaping and waving at her... just then his phone buzzed and it was a call from the hospital where grandma was.
Something had happened…
