Chapter 249: Chapter 249
Chapter 249
~Tony wakes from coma~
At the time Mary picked the call she said , “Excuse me, girls,” she excused herself to the dining room, puzzled for one bit, allowed her phone to ring twice more before taking a deep breath that would directly encourage her to pick the call; she had never been nervous like a puppy in a desert
Grinning her face hugely she picked up the call finally.
“Hello darling,” the sonorous voice of Doctor Frank beamed from the other end. His voice was crisp and exact in tempo; it was filled with good news, she guessed. But would it be the news she wanted to hear or one she had been praying against.
Doctor Frank couldn’t hear her from the other end. Her voice neither sounded nor gave any sign of life, as though she was not happy to see his call.
“Hello are you there sweetie?” he inquired further. “Hello,”
She cleared her throat and hoped the happiness clouding his voice was not carrying the news she suspected because thought of it alone made her die several times in her mind.
“Yeah…yeah…um, I am there,” she stuttered abnormally and felt her heartbeat thud against her chest. Something was definitely wrong or right but with the gladness in his voice, she wouldn’t doubt if it was right, “I am there, sweetie,” she whispered and feared for her own voice
“OK, guess what darling ,” Doctor Frank echoed form the other end.
“Oh stop sweetie I am not good at guessing. Hit the hammer, common on tell me what it is. I am suspense-bound right now,” she said, breathed hard and wished it was all what she was thinking. She shut her eyes, feeling the cracking voice of Doctor Frank’s voice which was about sounding the good news.
“OK since you are not good at guessing…” Doctor Frank had a deep breath, cleared his throat inertly to speak yet further. “It is my pleasure to inform you that your nephew Tony has regained consciousness.”
Her phone dropped from her hands and splashed on the floor. The call went off. She blinked fearfully swallowed hard but felt there was no saliva within her mouth to swallow. Suddenly the saliva in her mouth had dried up; her pounding heart had started thudding like a million bass drum banging at once
Eva and Kate had heard the thumping sound that came from her phone when it splashed on the floor and they ran out to her.
“What is it?” Eva asked , shooting an intuitive stare into her face to see a troubled face not too far from trauma. But she pretended, forced a contagious smile and struggled to keep a cheek to cheek smile at both girls.
She chuckled, prostrated to pick up her phone just to make them believe all was well mean while all was crashing,
“I …” she stuttered, felt nervousness parade through her body and if care was not taken she would slump in few minutes.
“I am just fine, baby girls. I have never been engaged in my life, and think of it coming from a cute , loving man as Doctor Frank makes me wonder what I did to deserve all this?. You know when I think about my experience with men, it trickles tears down my eyes ,” she lied , and scowled to force tears down her cheeks.
“Oh oh, mom, perk up,” Eva nursed her and drifted forth to fall in her embrace. “You just have to let your joy outshine your past toxic memories. This is your prime. You are engaged,” she nursed further.
Kate watched on, focusing her stare upon the phone which Mary gripped with so much caution and firmness and she could tell Mary got a disturbing call which led to her nervousness and the phone dashing on the floor.
Mary pulled from Eva, held her on the face and said, “Ladies I promise to be fine. I am just being nervous over this engagement,” while she spoke, her finger stroked the diamond ring as though she was trying to sound emphatic, “If you don’t mind I would love to laze my head in my room,” she said coldly, forced a smile which quickly died off as soon as it came on her face.
“It is ok, mom, just take your time,” Eva said, returned to the side of Kate as they stared at Mary walk up the staircase until she disappeared out of sight.
Kate retuned her gaze on Eva. she looks troubled,” Kate whispered , fighting back the urge to reveal the secrets to Eva , even if she would definitely , it wouldn’t come from her. She wondered how she would shape her mouth to reveal to Eva that a boy she hated so much was dating her mother secretly.
Eva shook her head. “Yes she looks troubled. Engagement could be troublesome. Just like life’s expectation. When the things you don’t expect fall down to you, it makes you look troubled. My mom is going to be fine, I guess” she said conclusively and stared into Kate’s face.
Kate stared back at her, grinned and winked at her. “Yes she will be fine,” she rephrased and breathed hard and definitely gave up in revealing anything to her right now.
Mary banged the door as soon as she entered her room, feeling weak and drawn, she rested on the door. A new door of disaster had opened for her. When she thought all was moving fine for her, a fresh storm came knocking , what would she tell Doctor Frank if Tony should leak her romance with him? How would Doctor Frank see her if he should get to know that Tony had been her sugar boy lover all this while she lied he was her nephew?
Of course it would not only be disgraceful but he would lose total trust in her.
“So Tony survived the coma. He survived … oh lord,” she murmured and sat on the floor, totally weak…
Something happened…
