Chapter 228: Chapter 228
Chapter 228
~Eva approves of Frank~
Frank wondered why he couldn’t stop apologizing even when he thought he deserved the apology and not Mary. He had never been so humble in his life before and he was thrilled to realize that the very woman he loved was the reason he was being humble.
“Once again, apology for pulling up a stunt,” he said as smiles curled up his lips. He wouldn’t want to cause anything that would disrespect
“Stunt?” she asked, shooting a surprise look.
“Maybe I should have sook your permission before taking you home to see my parents.” His voice went cold at the end, obviously sounding apologetic yet regretful for not behaving himself when he needed to
Mary shrugged and said, “I have told you to forget about the apology you have nothing to worry. I am fine now.” She glared at her wrist watch. “I got to go. It is late already.” She gazed upon Frank, rubbed him on the cheek and about to alight…
“Can I join you?” Frank demanded, “At least to meet with your daughter,” he stared into her face, waiting for his reply.
Mary shook her hair, paused her lips in thought and contemplated briefly before saying, “But there is another day for that it is already late.
Frank shook his head in disagreement, “Hell no, I insist. Besides, either of us must meet our family some day and as for me that some day is now!” he said , shot an expectant stare at her and later emphasized again, “I would love to meet your daughter in person so that we can get to know each other the more. Ok” he said finally.
And Mary shook her head , still yet to understand why he wanted to see her daughter, Eva. She was a bit of fascinated yet curious. She knew Frank was out to marry her. She knew he was for real and would even want to walk her down the aisle as soon as possible. But for
Tony, She would have to let Frank meet her daughter as he demanded.
“Ok. You can join me but knew that she is the difficult type, I mean she could be crazy.”
Frank cut in, “The could be crazy. What do you mean by that.” his frown built greatly as he glared at her , wondering what she meant by that statement
Mary swallowed hard, “you see Eva is my daughter. I can write a story about her. After my horrible experiences with men, she suddenly have developed this strange dislike for men.”
“Strange dislike?” Frank squeezed his lips. “I would really want to meet her in person,” he said.
Mary shrugged, “Ok if you insist,” she said and alighted.
Frank alighted too, and gazed upon her semidetached duplex as he followed her.
When he got in, the first thing that welcomed him was the picture of Eva which stood under the electric lantern on the table. After beholding the picture he glared around her sitting room, and smiled.
“Nice house with a good sense of decoration,” he complemented, smiling at her and shaking his head.
“Do make yourself comfortable,” Mary said, walked to the bar and poured flutes of red wine for two.
“You bought this house or you rented it?” he asked, really comfortable as he crossed his legs and retuned his gaze on Ella’s picture. She looked innocent, simple beautiful; not really looking like one that could hurt a fly. Inwardly he was preparing himself to convert Eva and make her a friend and not an enemy. He would prove to Mary that Eva would accept him into the family and not cause a trouble as she thought.
Just as she was thinking, he could hear a shuffling walker stamping feet on the floor, around the staircase and he perceived it was Eva , perhaps running down the staircase to join them in the sitting room.
Like thunder, she got down to the sitting room, immediately. And Mary smiled at her, “Oh daughter, I thought you were asleep,” she said, smiling at Eva whose face might never smile in the next one hour or more. Mary quietly walked to the spot Frank was seated and gave him a flute of wine. “Um…” she contemplated.
Eva’s face was holding fire as she frowned at Frank who was also keeping a smiling face. She rolled her eyes as she paced up and down the sitting room, leaving Frank to ponder what she was up to.
“Are you spending the night in my momma’s house?” Eva asked, gathering quarrel in her eyes and wondering if those smiles on his face were actually real or that he was taking it. Either ways, she like those smiles especially when his dimples, dug into his cheeks.
She was more comfortable and free to talk with Frank for the first time and she could recall most of her past actions which centered on insulting men that came to check up on her mother; since he had nothing that irritated her-- a sure truth, he was real. Of all the men, and first man to be accepted by her. She need not be told that Frank was out to make her mother his wife and soul mate, most importantly very happy and fulfilled. He knew Frank was the kind of man her mother needed not the sugar boys that troubled her life. This time she could boast of a man she could call father and rely on. She was most fascinated to have Frank date and marry her mother.
“Um,” Frank contemplated, “If you give me the honor I would love to spend the night especially when an angel like you is present in the house, “ Frank replied, still holding his smile.
Eva blushed. She appreciated the fact that he had a sugar-coated tongue and he would be the first man to make her blush at his utterance. It was grace and she was grateful. She glared at her mother and a smile came on her face, as she smiled back at Frank; and Frank smiled back.
