Chapter 201
~Trouble and confusion on wedding day~
With their fingers clenched together and their hands locked at the elbow, Ken and Mrs. Fanny stared passionately into each other’s eyes before they started walking into the cathedral. While Ken had his smiling face flashing at the guests that came to honor their wedding, Mrs. Fanny had her gaze on the thick crucifix of Jesus on the wall as well as the artistic work of Mary and the bold writing on the wall that said St. Francis Asisi. She wouldn’t want to gaze around and see faces of people she wouldn’t want to see.
Ken was busy smiling at the faces of guests that smiled at him, until they got to the altar, before the bald headed, thick cheeks, brawly and short priest, whose glasses seemed to be meant only for his nose and not for his eyes.
The priest dragging a smile at them gestured at them to face each other, and they did at once. Clearing his throat, the priest said into the microphone.
“Mr. Ken and Mrs. Fanny, have you come here to enter into marriage without coercion, feely and wholeheartedly? Are you prepared as you follow the path of marriage to love and honor each other for as long as you both shall live? Are you prepared to accept children lovingly from God and to bring them up according to the law of Christ and His church?” the priest asked them with his eyes peering at them and waiting for their response.
“I have,” responded Ken, all smiles and eyes locked into Mrs. Fanny’s eyes, which housed all the passion in the world.
“I have,” responded Mrs. Fanny at once with her cheeks dragging back in smiles and patches of red all over her face as anxiety took over her body.
Again the priest approached the microphone and spoke into it, “Since it is your intention to enter into the covenant of holy matrimony join your right hands and declare your consent before God His church,” he said and took the microphone to the mouth of Ken.
And then Ken said, “I Lake Ken take you Sandra Fanny to be my wife. I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you and honor you all the days of my life.”
The entire crowd gave a clapping ovation at once as they looked forward to Mrs. Fanny pledging her vow.
Just then it was Mrs. Fanny’s turn to declare her consent and she caught sight of a man donned in dark suit and dark sunglasses prancing with a bouquet of flowers in his hand, into the hall with his shoes knocking on the floor. The man was Teddy. She noticed him clearly once he took off the glasses and smiled flirtatiously at her. Her heart-sank into her stomach as she swallowed hard, wondering what Teddy had come to do and what would be his next action. She was still lost in thought with her gaze on him when the priest said;
“Mrs. Fanny!” the priest called, but no answer, “Mrs. Fanny!” he called yet again, but no answer. “Mrs. Fanny!” this time he called louder and her senses returned abruptly.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah, pardon me,” she replied, sighed, blinked furiously, and rubbed her eyes to snap out of her thought entirely. “I am here, I am here,” she reaffirmed, breathing hard and anxiously staring at Ken and the priest.
Ken frowned at her, “What is wrong with you? What were you thinking, uh?” he asked her in whispers but she ignored him, and gazed upon the priest to continue the ritual.
Casting a glance at the priest, she said, “I am here now,” she said yet again and repeated after the priest, “ I Sandra Fanny take you Teddy…” she intended to call, Lake Ken, but didn’t know when she mentioned Teddy because with the corner of her eyes she was stealing a glance at Teddy and was lost in thought again.
“The priest was forced to ask, “Mrs. Fanny! Is your husband’s name Teddy?”
“Sweet what is wrong with you?” asked Ken almost yelling his voice at her. At the time she was rubbing her eyes as she was back to her senses.
The guests already had started murmuring until the priest spoke into the microphone to call them back to order.
Again Mrs. Fanny’s gaze returned to the crowed and she could see Kate and Eva at the extreme of the other row, and she snapped her gaze once Ken Held her on the face and turned it to himself.
“You need to put yourself together; let’s do this. What is wrong with you? I…” ken was yet to speak when a high-heel knocking into the hall caught his attention. And upon gazing on the figure , lo and behold it was Jacy, in a mini polka dotted gown and heavy makeup which left her lips shining in red lips gloss. He watched and snapped his gaze to focus on his wife. But with the corner of his eyes he noticed she sat on the front pew with a long face.
“Mrs. Fanny!” called the priest, “You must be cautious this time around. We don’t have time to waste and we can’t keep the guests waiting,”
She shook her head, swallowed hard, “OK Father,” she said and repeated after him again, “I Sandra Fanny take you, Lake Ken to be my husband. I promise to be faithful to you in good and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you and honor you all the days of my life,” she said conclusively and struggled to keep her gaze away from Teddy, Kate and Eva whom she knew were staring at her and planning evil in their heart now.
Then the priest gazed upon the congregation, put the microphone to his mouth and asked, “Should anyone present know of any reason that this couple should not be joined in holy matrimony, speak now or forever hold your peace?”
Just then Teddy stood up hastily, staring around.
