Chapter 195: Chapter 195
Chapter 195
~Brian’s girlfriends~
“Why would you ask me such question, grandma?” Brian asked, shooting his stare at her and noticing his father with the corner of his eyes.
Mr. Coleman’s stare was at grandma who busied herself with the cup of juice which she had in her mouth. She took her time to glug down the juice gradually keeping everyone waiting for her reply.
“You know,” she finally said after smacking her lips callously, “I asked you that question because you young men are always on the street and you know the happenings in town perhaps you got first hand information about a unanimous missing person.” Grandma was suddenly quiet; her lips paused, jaw sagged and Brian sensed she was lost in thought when she dimmed her eyes at him. Obviously she didn’t intend to ask the question, and she really wanted to say that Brian was going out with Ella.
“Well I didn’t hear any news of a missing person,” Brian said coldly. He knew grandma wanted to reveal his sexual relationship with Ella and possibly link it to the missing husband. It was written all over her face that she wanted to say something that would implicate him. But he wished she wouldn’t say anything because as much as he knew he had nothing to do with Ella anymore and he was ready to deny her point black.
“How is your girlfriend?” grandma asked dimming her eyes and at Brian and letting him know the girlfriend she was actually asking about.
Brian wanted to answer speedily but he paused, looked at his father whose eyes were rolling between grandma and Brian, wondering why she was asking about Brian’s girlfriend at this time..
“My girlfriend um…?” Brian retorted, scowled his face and knew grandma was referring to Ella. He knew what grandma was up to and wondered what she would gain if she should reveal his sexual relationship with Ella. “Um…” Brian lost the reply to give and he was interrupted by his father who gave a chuckle.
“You must be talking about Kate,” he said and dominated the discussion about Kate, “son, did you tell grandma about Kate?” he asked, casting a quick state at Brian who had died several times in his heart, after giving up on the reply to give grandma.
“Yes…no…no.” he stuttered, stroked his hair and lied, “Excuse me dad, I need to pee,” he stood to his feet, rolled his eyes at grandma, grinned at his father.
“Are you OK, son?” Mr. Coleman asked, locking eyes with Brian and pondering if the mention of Kate was the reason behind his sudden intention to pee.
“I am cool, dad, just that I have had enough milk shake and would want to empty my bladder,” he said, touched his zipper pretentiously to make his father understand how pressed he was.
“Ok I can see. You can go,” said Mr. Coleman and turned his gaze to grandma who stared out Brian until he disappeared out of eyes reach. “Did he tell you anything about Kate?” asked Mr. Coleman.
“Um…” she pondered, not really. I can’t recall any, but I know he has a girlfriend,” said grandma and wondered how Mr. Coleman would feel if he should get to find out Brian had been having sex with Ella.
“of course he does, Brian is a man now even I am expecting a wife from him. He has a girlfriend in California by name Kate who also doubles as a family friend. They were very close way back in California, until he relocated to Miami with reasons best known to him.”
“Do you know if they are still in talking terms?” asked grandma, stroking the glass cup in front of her and having a suspicious smile by the corner of her lips.
“um…I wouldn’t know. But one thing I know for sure Kate is his girlfriend. Right now Kate stays with us in California after her mother divorced her father to marry their family lawyer. She wouldn’t want to share the same roof with her mother since her father is in jail. Oh Kate, such a poor girl!” he said, shaking his head.” Well Brian and Kate were so into each other that I knew some day they would marry.” Mr Coleman sounded and smiled.
They later burst into a lengthy laugh.
“Didn’t Brian tell you he has a new girlfriend now?” inquired grandma.
“New girlfriend in Miami?” asked Mr. Coleman, raising a brow and shooting an interesting look at grandma in expectation of what she wanted to say and who this girlfriend was.
Grandma would have loved to mention Ella, but for the fact that she would want to confirm with her eyes again if Brian was still seeing Ella. Didn’t he tell you his girlfriend is Meyer?” she asked, let a cold gentle smile and stared at the corridor to see if Brian was lurking by the corner.
Meyer?” contemplated Mr. Coleman, “Who is Meyer and where is she from?” he asked further.
Grandma breathed uneasily once she recalled her ordeal with Meyer and how she would never want to talk about her, let alone set her eyes on her. “She is the most impossible girl I have ever known. Her character stinks as the fresh stool of a pig.”
Mr. Coleman burst into a radical laughter, “Oh really. You must have fallen out with this girl. And I thought Brian could bring her home for dinner.”
Quickly grandma cut in, “Not in my house. If I set my eyes on her or get to see her anywhere around my farm, I will unleash my beast on her.”
“Oh dam!” Mr. Coleman snapped and laughed before they suddenly went cold, “Um…” he said, “I wanted to meet with Ella my cousin’s wife. You know I didn’t honor their wedding so I didn’t get to meet her. Obviously it will be my first time of setting my eyes on her, and indeed it will be my pleasure.”
“Oh yes I know, I know,” grandma reaffirmed, tapped her finger repeatedly on the table , frowned and snorted in disapproval, “Ella,” she called, shook her head and looked at Mr. Coleman .
“Yes Ella,” replied Mr. Coleman casting a keen stare into grandma’s face. “Do you know anything about her and what she is up to lately?”
Grandma breathed hard; Brian came on her mind again…
