Chapter 178: Chapter 178
Chapter 178
Rodriguez and Jacy
Rodriguez had been seeing Jacy for months now and within himself he had come to an appreciable stage in their relationship when he thought it wise to propose to Jacy and make her his wife.
So on this fateful day, he took her on a date at a coffee café down town, placed their orders which were two cups of hot creamy coffee for the harsh winter which had been heavy all month and sat to their orders. With keen expectant eyes, Rodriguez had stared at Jacy who was busy sipping her hot coffee out of her likeness for coffee.
“Why those looks?” Jacy asked Rodriguez who was blushing now. He was all smiles, knowing that soon Jacy would know his reason for smiling.
Jacy had her remaining coffee in a gulp only to realize a sizeable metal was about entering her mouth. Once she stared close into the cup of coffee, she was stunned to behold a gold engagement ring.
Rodriguez shot his smile at her face that had already curled up a mysterious frown.
“Today I choose to be man. Please don’t say no to my marriage proposal.” His hands were held out to her yet so nervously that he thought his hands were going to fall off his shoulders soon.
The looks on her face were thunderous and unfriendly. Since she noticed the engagement ring, her gaze had been upon it with a frown, as she fondled with it.
“You don’t seem cheerful. Why the unperturbed look on your face? Rodriguez asked swallowing hard.
Finally she dropped the ring on the table, paused her lips and winked at him.
“I am sorry to decline your proposal,” she said, smacked her lips and snorted.
“Why. Did I do anything wrong that you distastes? Talk to me,” Rodriguez inquired and impatiently stared into her face to get his reply.
“It is not all about what I feel for you anymore, but about the decision I have taken for the rest of my life,” she replied coldly.
“And what could that be?” he asked anxiously.
She sniffed as though there had been this inner cry in her that was yet to burst out.
“…to remain the way I am, to find my son and make sure, I give him the best out of life, never to be owned, controlled and answerable to any man in the name of marriage.”
His countenance fell hugely within him, “Apologies for disrespecting your marriage. Perhaps I was too fast to propose to a married woman please forgive me…”
“No, no, no,” she interrupted, “You did nothing wrong. I should rather be apologetic for lying to you.”
There were both silent for one bit as they locked eyes.
“I…I” she stuttered “I have never been married,” she broke the silence and watched his brow furrow in surprise. “I am just a baby mama to some dumb ass lawyer that calls himself Ken. He is the man you saw me with at the beach some months ago, and the little boy is the child I have for him.”
Rodriguez looked puzzled, and stroked his hair briefly, “Ok, it makes it easier then. I am still on track…”
She shook her head, “Just let me be, Rodriguez. The decision I made and the journey I am about to embark on for the rest of my life is one you wouldn’t want to get indulged with. I just want to live for my son, Blueeyes, focus on giving him the best and perch to myself as a single mother.”
He stroked his hair confusedly and then his beards. “I am about to change the tides and right the wrongs in your life. I am a different man. I don’t know what you passed through in the hands of men but I have come for a new dawn in your life and I can’t let you slip away without answering Mrs. Rodriguez.
She rolled her eyes, “It is no news anymore. Marriage is overrated same with love. Answering Mrs. Rodriguez is not going to stop you from being a pin in the ass like every other man. Right now what matters to me is reclaiming my son from that bastard that calls himself Ken. If that will be the last fight I will win in my life, so be it. I must reclaim Blueeyes.”
Rodriguez stared in the space thoughtfully, and shut his eyes in weakness as his hands found the ring on the table and covered it with his palm shamefully.
“I am sorry Rodriguez. You are a nice man for now. I don’t know about later. You just have to understand me. There are beautiful, dashing, women out there that are ready to be Mrs. Rodriguez. The only Mrs. Rodriguez I want to be right now is reclaiming my son.”
Gently he said, “I am with you in this. I will join you to reclaim Blueeyes even if I marry another woman tomorrow I must ensure your joy is full by getting Blueeyes back in your arms.”
Jacy gaped at him, and wondered what he was up to now with that decision.
“Ok,” she affirmed, “I just want to remind you there is no benefit and you are not to expect anything in return.”
“Anything?” he asked, “What do you mean?”
She cut in swiftly, “No sex, no emotional attachment. If you decide to join me to reclaim my son it must be a selfless service. You have the right to flirt with other women, if you so desire. Don’t think I am going to feel bad if you do. I will be happy to see you fall in love with other women, trust me.”
“OK, fine, agreed,” he beamed and they locked eyes.
“One more thing,” she said and Rodriguez brightened up his face at what she was about saying.
When she hesitated, he asked, “What is it?
And she sighed before saying, “Should I begin to love you and emotionally get attached to you don’t take it serous because I have given up on love a long time ago,” she said.
And Rodriguez unlocked his eyes from hers, scowled his face and threw his gaze to the wall.
Only time would tell…
