Chapter 10: Chapter 10

Kelly froze when she heard what Maxwell said.

‘Our baby? Lorelai is pregnant? And our boss is the father? How did that happen?’ she asked herself, suddenly she is feeling overwhelmed, she feels worried for Lorelai but at the same time she wants an answer. At first, when she can see that Maxwell is worried about Lorelai she just ignored it, but when Maxwell became too uncontrollable, nervous, and panicking she starts to feel something is amiss.

“She is fine, she needs to rest. Don’t worry about the baby, it's okay.” the doctor said, he pats Maxwell's shoulder. Maxwell felt calmer and relieved, and he feel like a heavy weight is off his shoulder.

“She lost a lot of blood, but she is stable now. We now just wait for her to be conscious. I’ll leave you here, just call the nurse if you need anything” the doctor said, and left. Maxwell took a seat beside Lorelai’s bed, he hold her hands softly.

Kelly and Lukas stand still looking at Maxwell, both have questions in their head. Lukas is about to say something, but Lorelai opened her eyes.

When Lorelai opened her eyes, the first thing she saw is Maxwell holding her hands and kissing them. A sudden flashback to the incidents flashes before her eyes, then she remembers.

“Where am I? What happened to my baby.” she sits up, tears racing down her cheeks. She keeps on hitting Maxwell with her hands, demanding an answer.

Maxwell hugged her, calming her down. He tucks her hair in the back of her ears and wipes the tears from her cheeks.

“Shh, Lorelai it's okay. The baby is fine.” he said as he caress her back. Lorelai feels relieved to know the news.

She stares at Maxwell and smiled weakly. Maxwell wipes the tears that he did not notice falling down. Kelly stood there not saying a word, she is observing them. Lukas gave her a questioning look, she just shrug because she don’t know what to say either.

Maxwell let go of the hug, and Lorelai looked in front of her. And there are her two best friends looking at her with mixed emotions, worried, confused, and questioning.

Lorelai knows that this time she cannot lie to them anymore. Suddenly Maxwell’s phone rang, he excused himself and gave the three of them a moment to talk.

Kelly approached her, seating near her.

“Hey, how are you? You make me worried, good thing you are stable now.” Kelly started crying, but she still smile at her best friend. Lukas seat beside her and pat her on the back.

“Kelly…I am okay now. Sorry for making you worried… and c-confused. I owe you an explanation.”

“Yes, you owe me an explanation, but you can explain some other time. What’s important is you recover. Sometime you will tell me everything from start to finish, every detail! So rest well because I will put you in a hot seat.” she said laughing softly.

“But whatever is going on between you and Sir. Maxwell, damn you made him so worried that he could punch anyone. Like Lukas, for example.” Kelly said shooting a glance at Lukas’ bruise, she giggles.

“What? He punched you Lukas?” that is when Lorelai noticed the bruise in the corner of Lukas’ mouth.

“Yeah, he is being an asshole.” Lukas said shaking his head.

“Well, dear Lukas if you told him Lorelai’s room quickly you wouldn’t be punched”

“Damn, now it's my fault. Okay, lesson learned. Geez, ladies are weird. Psh, I’ll get you both some water first. Excuse me.” Lukas said as he wave as he closed the door.

“Kelly remember the man I slept with at the party?” Lorelai started, she cannot bear to see Kelly being left behind. She hid it for a long time to her, she deserves to hear an explanation now.

Kelly looked at her, she furrowed her brows, thinking. Then she nods.

“Yes, of course. Go on, this is getting interesting.” Lorelai swallowed, she is not ready for whatever questions Kelly had for her.

“Well, remember when I told you that it is nothing since we’re not gonna meet each other again? But unfortunately, I meet him again at my house!” Kelly listened to her intently, not saying anything.

“You know how we wonder why that house is mysteriously cheap? Well, it looks like the reason why the house is cheap is that, that is a shared title, so basically that man is also the owner of the house. That day we– compromised, and we have a deal… whoever paid half of the house first will get the house. I am the one who proposed that since I don’t have enough money at that time.”

Lorelai stopped, she breathed in and out. Kelly just looked at her waiting.

“Then, that is when I heard that we have a new boss, long story short that man is also our boss, Maxwell. He acted as if he don’t know me at that time, we rarely see each other despite living and working in the same place. When he knew that I am pregnant, he told me that he will marry me. I— uh…” Lorelai paused, she knows Kelly is thinking she refused to marry Maxwell.

“You object? right?” Kelly asked, looking into her eyes. Lorelai shakes her head as an answer.

“My grandmother needs immediate surgery, she is getting weak. I have to– he is my only hope at that time, my aunt refused to help my grandmother. S-she said I should be the one helping. I don’t w-want to marry him, but Kelly, I don’t have a choice. He wants an heir, I want his money..” she said covering her eyes as tears escaped there, she let out all the emotions she had hidden for weeks now.

She keeps on sobbing, Kelly reaches out to her to hug her. Lorelai feels relieved that finally, she told her friend everything, she no longer needs to lie.

“Oh my God, Rory. I don’t know what you been through all those time, I never notice you were— I am sorry.” Kelly said as she pat Lorelai’s back.

“I am sorry for not telling you sooner, I don’t want you to worry about me. I am planning on telling you when–”

“Hey, Lorelai you know you don’t need to tell me everything when you are not ready yet. But I want to remind you that you can always talk to me if you need something.” Kelly said wiping Lorelai’s tears. Kelly felt her heart broken to pieces when she saw her friend cry.

Lorelai has been through a lot, Kelly is there to witness every hardship Lorelai faced, from kids to their teenage years to adulthood. Kelly knew that Lorelai deserved every good thing because she suffered enough, she endured many things to be who she is today.

When Lukas is about to go back to Lorelai’s room he saw Maxwell standing near Lorelai’s door typing something on the phone. Lukas looks at Maxwell from head to toe, then that is when he confirmed that he saw him somewhere before, but he is not sure when and where.

He walked until he is in front of Maxwell. Maxwell looked at him, staring blankly.

“I don’t know how you met Lorelai, she never mentioned you to me. I will tell you if you hurt her in any way, I will come and kill you.” Lukas said clenching his hands. Lorelai and Lukas have been friends for a long time, for all those times Lukas always protected her, just like his cousin Kelly, he cannot stand to see Lorelai cry.

Maxwell kept a straight face. He can feel loyalty of Lukas to Lorelai, whatever their relationship must be special. How about them what is their relationship other than Lorelai being the mother of his child and his future wife only on paper?

“I will not hurt the mother of my own child in any way, I can assure you that. I am a man of my word “ Maxwell said in a firm tone, he walked past Lukas and entered Lorelai’s room.
