Chapter 74: Chapter 74

Pamela's eyes become teary. She doesn't know how to answer Louis' question. He called her for this kind of discussion and not because of the proposal and partnership?

Not minding her change in expression, Louis continued "You think I can't help you? Tell me, are you really interested in working with the People's Bank or do you just want to be close to Lucas Wright?" Louis asked.

Pamela glared at him sharply. Her eyes had gone red. Her eyes welled up in tears. She wanted to reply to him sharply but if she did, her tears would give way and she would start sobbing.

She and Louis stared at each other. She doesn't want to remember how everything crumbled and she ended up like this.

"When I bought the Stonecut group, I had my assistant send an email to you. An invitation to have a meeting with me. Did you honour that invitation? No, you didn't.

But you now submitted an application for partnership in respect of another company. Couldn't you rather apply to be Hayden's cooperation senior consultant? Must you work with Lucas and the same place with him?" Louis asked and paused.

He got the handkerchief in his breast pocket and gave it to her. Pamela collected it and cleaned her tears. She sniffled.

"What do you care about Louis? Tell me, what do you care about? I took that job because I don't want to leave my kids, I don't want to leave Oak City and go elsewhere.

I got a better opportunity in Switzerland, Louis, and I wanted to leave. But Lucas advised me against it because of the kids, he said I couldn't leave them and go so far away from them.

In order to keep busy, he suggested that position for me and I accepted it. It isn't for the money, Louis. I just don't want to be idle, that's why I took the job.

And yes, I did the three proposals for that company. You bought over my company and next sent me an email to come over and see you?

I didn't come because I felt I was going to be humiliated. I cannot stand it. I'd rather roam the streets than come to be humiliated by you. Everything that is happening to me is simply because I have your kids, Louis.

From the moment that surrogacy was successful, I only lived for them, Louis. So much sacrifice, pains, adjustment, everything to give you the most important gifts of your life. And do you blame me now for taking that job?" Pamela asked and sniffled, trying hard to keep the noise of her sobs minimal.

Louis looked away. Her sobs was making him feel guilty again. Then her words made a lot of sense to him. So much had happened in her life because of the kids.

"I'm sorry for all you've been through. I didn't mean to hurt you and make you sob. I only want us to reason together as adults.

I will approve the partnership because of you. The proposal is alright but I wanted bigger companies to handle Hayden's finances. But I will give it a shot because of you.

But there's a condition attached" he paused and glanced at her briefly before looking away "I don't want you to be an active member of the People's Bank. You can remain a shareholder, and a member of the board of trustees, but not a physically active member" Louis declared.

Pamela looked at the table separating her from Louis and tapped it. If that's it, it's alright with her. Lucas will get promoted and the work would be ascribed to him. She doesn't mind.

But what will she be doing after that? Stay at home and look out of the window every day? She's going to ask him if he has other options for her.

"The People's Bank will benefit greatly from the partnership and you will benefit from it as well. But I want you to resign from being an active physical member" Louis added.

He doesn't want her anywhere around Lucas. But much more than that, he wants her to work with him. He stilled his heart and prayed that she would say yes.

"Do you have an offer for me?" Pamela asked, raising her head and glancing at him. His Grey eyes looked charming and sexy.

"Yes, a better one" Louis replied and Pamela sighed softly. She shrugged and said "Ok. I will withdraw. I accept your condition"

Louis hived a smile. He felt satisfied and happy with her answer. That's nice and thoughtful of her.

"I knew a few of the reasons the Stonecut group was sold out. I bought it from your grandfather and I don't need to tell you what it's worth.

But as I speak, that company has expanded three times what it was when you presided over it. All the employees were retained but not all the partners.

I sent you an email when the company was acquired. I wanted you to remain the President of the company and I retain the position of the CEO.

I bought the group for our kids. It's in their name because they are the next generation of the Hayden's family. I needed someone I trust to preside over it.

And who else can do that besides the mother of the kids who owned the company? But you declined my invitation. Now, that position is still vacant and the expansion the company is experiencing at this time, I am involving more hands at the managerial position.

Take back your position and office and run the company again. It's an annex of the Hayden's cooperation but standing as an entity. Will you be ready to resume office as the president of the company?" Louis asked.

Pamela was dazed. He bought the company for the kids, and wants her to run the company for them? She becomes the woman she used to be.

"Yes, I will," Pamela agreed. She smiled and Louis smiled back. First time they both smiled at each other and it was as if the earth stopped rotating around its orbit.

They locked eyes, each admiring the other in his/her heart. Loving the other in their individual unique way and yet, not wanting to confess the feelings first.

Louis was going to hold her hands across the table when his phone chirped. It's the business line and he looked away, checking the caller ID.

"Yes.." he said, adjusting his Bluetooth to have a clear reception. "I will be back soon" he replied and looked back at Pamela.

"Thank you for this chance, Louis" Pamela appreciated and Louis said it's nothing. "When will you be resuming office?" Louis asked.

They would need to sign some paperwork before she assumed office. He would see to it that everything will be put in order.

"After the kids' birthday" Pamela replied. Louis squinted, the kids birthday, is it so close by? "When is their birthday?" He asked.

"7th July. They will be five the day after tomorrow" Pamela answered, smiling at Louis. There's no way he can know those details about the kids, except she tells him.

"We will throw a party for them. I will let you know about the venue of the party" Louis offered and stood up.

"Thanks for the lunch" Pamela appreciated and Louis nodded, holding her hand and raising her for a handshake. Pamela shook hands with him and he put on his shade and walked away.

Pamela also followed behind. Getting into her car. She didn't take note that Louis was staring at her from his tinted car. She was in a tinted car herself and simply drove away.

Pamela felt relieved. She's getting her company back and that sounds great. Three times larger than what it was within a few months?

Louis Hayden is a great business tycoon. No wonder he gained so much ground and is the richest dude in Oak city. It makes her feel happy that the company is now being owned by her kids.

Lucas left work early and told Pamela that he was coming to fetch her to visit a friend. If she's not too busy, he would be happy if she could accompany him there.

Pamela asked and he said in the hospital. She said okay. He could come over and pick her up at her house. Besides the servants, she lives alone and sometimes, desires to go out.

Lucas pleaded with her to come with her car. He might have to drive his friends home from the hospital and the car would not be convenient for them.

Pamela said okay. She met with Lucas and they got into the hospital. But she was dazed when she realised that Lucas brought her to see the Grayson's.

"What's the meaning of this, Lucas?" Pamela demanded. She looked aggrieved and her fury was visibly felt.

Greg, Freya and Freddie were surprised when Lucas walked in with Pamela behind him. They were momentarily rendered speechless.

"I'm sorry pam. I didn't tell you I was bringing you to your Foster family. But I want you to get to meet them, it's been over five years now and I think we should bury the hatchet.

When I met this family, it was through you. I was your boyfriend and then became your fiance. But then I met others, bad ones and good ones.

One of the good ones is Freddie Grayson. He's never been able to recover from the shock you gave him when he discovered you are the CEO of P and D4 group that took his properties away, demolished his building and erect a mansion in its place.

He became homeless and the height of it was the encounter he had with you when he discovered that you were his daughter and did so much evil to him.

I remembered that we both eventually became homeless when that scheming bitch I married took everything from me. And I happened to spend a few days with Freddie and Greg.

Many nights, Freddie would sob silent, Calling the name of his dear daughter, Pamela. Whatever he's done to you, is nothing to be compared to the depth of love he has for you.

Today, I will tell you the only reason he was part of the arranged marriage between you and Louis Hayden. He allowed it because of me…
