Chapter 71: Chapter 71

Within this one week that Louis was busy expanding his horizon, Pamela was no longer idle. Lucas had suggested to his boss that they could partner with the Hayden's cooperation and gain more ground and expansion.

His boss was impressed. He is now a manager and his suggestion would be the breakthrough they needed. But he's heard about Louis Hayden that he is very strict and doesn't accept partnership from people he doesn't trust.

He told Lucas about what he heard about the rich dude and the latter told him they could go through a certain business consultant. She's on par with Louis Hayden in the past and if they bring her in to become a shareholder in their financial company, that might be the entering point for them.

That was how Pamela was invited and after a few interactions, she signed a deal with People's Bank and became a shareholder and a member of the board of trustees.

And her first task is to see how they can get a part in the Hayden's cooperation. She would work with the new manager to achieve that and as a doctor in business consultancy, it would be an advantage for them.

Pamela said okay. She thanked Lucas and told him he had just helped her secure a job. She's glad she would have something to keep her busy.

Even if it's not as prestigious as her former position, she is glad that she got it. At least she would get to see and be with her kids.

Lucas said it's nothing. He wished he could do more for her. So she need not to thank him. And it's a privilege for him to work side by side with her.

She sat down and drew a plan and an objective. She prepared a presentation and a proposal to present to the CEO of the Hayden's cooperation.

It wasn't long she was a consultant by a different company and requested for her services. She would help prepare a business plan and proposal, as a consultant and get paid for it.

She turned down a few requests and accepted some. Do the job and get her Bank account credited. It was paying her well and she arranged for a meeting with Louis Hayden.

She was told Louis Hayden was not back to Oak City. Romeo particularly gave her a preference, she was the boss' kids mother and somewhere in his heart, he knew boss Louis is in love with her.

Meanwhile, he told Pamela that several financial companies had made similar proposals. But he hoped the boss would pick her own proposal.

Pamela urged Romeo to push it forward for her. He definitely would be interested in the benefits and outline of the proposal she made. Romeo told her he would do the best he could for her.

As Pamela left talking to Lucas that morning in his office, she was going to leave when she met Nelly, waiting to see Lucas.

She saw the coldness in Lucas' gaze when he saw that the person was Nelly. Pamela excused herself and said she would wait for him. But Lucas said she could just stay, they were going to lunch together.

Pamela nodded. But Nelly, rather than talk, looked apologetic. She seemed to have sobbed and her eyes looked puffy and slightly reddish.

The atmosphere between them both seemed tense while Lucas was poker faced. "I will talk to you later," she said and walked out.

Lucas shrugged without a single feeling of being concerned. Pamela understood. Something isn't right between them.

As they got into the elevator and waited for the door to shut, Pamela said "you've had a thing with that lady in the past?" She asked but didn't turn to glance at him.

Lucas was silent. He didn't respond to her and didn't debunked what she asked. He just stood with his hands folded in front of him like a gentleman.

"She had wronged you and might want to apologise. If she requests for a second chance, please do consider her plea" Pamela added and pouted her lips.

She would talk no more. That lady was all remorseful. She didn't know anything about their past or history. But she knows that she wants to apologise to Lucas.

Lucas was shocked at Pamela's words and turned to glance at her. He kept his gaze on her, full with admiration and love.

Pamela is pure hearted. He can't express how much he loves her. He hasn't stopped imagining how their lives would have been now, they were still together.

Pamela knew Lucas' gaze was on her but refused to turn to glance at him. She felt uncomfortable with his gaze. She felt as if it was such a gaze that is coming from someone who is in love.

That evening, Lucas decided to visit Freddie. The man was still in the hospital and he hasn't gone to see him. They might not be family again but he had been good to her in the past.

When he arrived at the hospital, Greg Freeman was the only one there. He was happy when he saw Lucas and quickly hugged him.

Freddie was asleep. But he appeared alright now. Greg told Lucas how Freddie escaped death but ended up with a partial stroke.

He couldn't walk for now but would be using a wheelchair. They would get physiotherapy when they can afford it and he would be helping him to learn how to walk again.

Lucas felt pity for Freddie. How will he cope with such a woman like Freya if he couldn't use his legs? He foresaw torture that he would go through.

"Has Emma come to see her father?" Lucas asked and Greg said he almost forgot that there is someone called Emma. But now that he reminded him, his answer is no.

He added that it was better that someone was childless than having such a mistake they called Emma. That girl or woman as the case May be was worthless of all children that was ever born.

Lucas shook his head in pity. She was mean and deceptive to him and was still useless to her family. Who is ever going to speak well of her.

Thank goodness, he was free from her clutches. He is a free man now and the feeling of freedom makes happy and light hearted.

"I love Freddie. His kindness and the way he treats me makes me see him as my late brother. Freya and I had a brother but his death was the darkest thing that ever happened to me besides my parents death" Greg paused, he seemed to sniffle and sad.

"My brother worked as a Steward in Middletown City. He was sending money to me to take care of our sick mother. Our father had died a long time ago and he was the only one who shouldered our responsibilities.

When our mother died, he said he would return home to look after us. But then Freya had married and I was the only one at home. He promised to return home.

Then one day he called me and told me he had married a woman secretly and she was going to give birth soon. He would be coming to Oak City with his wife and start their lives together.." Greg paused.

Lucas glanced at him, totally interested in the story. He felt as if he knew about the story before. The man died in an accident on his way and his wife gave birth but also died.

Is the story the same with the one Pamela gave about her parents? No, it might not be. He shouldn't just conclude on something like that.

"So how did he die?" Lucas asked. Eager to hear the end of the story.

"He got into an accident with his pregnant wife and he died. I didn't know, but was waiting for when my brother would call me that he had arrived and I ended up waiting for another month.

Then I sent a letter to him but he didn't reply to it. I then called the royal telephone number he usually use in contacting me since his cell phone number wasn't going through again…" Greg was saying and Lucas interrupted him sharply.

"You said royal telephone number?" He asked, afraid of the reality of his words would be if it was answered in the positive.

"Yes, royal telephone number. He worked as a Steward in the Royal palace of the Middletown City" Greg answered him flippantly.

Lucas glanced at Greg, his mouth opened agaped. Is Greg Freeman and Freya related to Pamela?

"That was when I heard that he had been fired from the palace two months earlier. I didn't get anyone to tell me the reason. How come Linus never mentioned anything about his job or being fired from work when he called me?

I started trying to find answers to my questions. Two weeks later I got to know that he had died more than a month earlier. I sobbed greatly and thought I would die.

Freya and I tried to locate his pregnant wife so we could take care of her and the baby in her belly. But we were told she died and the baby was long dead before its mother.

If Linus was alive, our lives would have been better. Freya and I would have had an elder brother who would love us more than anything else.

Freddie has a heart like Linus. That's why I can't stay away from him. I love him very much because he is kind hearted like Linus.." Greg concluded but Lucas was no longer listening to his last words.

"Do you know his wife's name?" Lucas asked.

"Yes, years later, a friend of his told me that he had married a princess from the royal family in Middletown City and her name was Alice…"Greg was saying when Lucas stood up quickly and said "I'm sorry I have to leave"

Before Greg could say yes, Lucas was gone. Greg was dazed and wondered what was wrong with Lucas' abrupt way of running off.

Anyways, he shrugged. Perhaps he remembered he had something important to do. He had been a great family to Freddie and Freya despite the latter's meanness to him in the past.

Lucas got into his car and placed his hand on his chest. His heart was beating fast and he couldn't bring himself to think straight.
