Chapter 65: Chapter 65

Lucas went to have a shower. He sank into his bed with his clothes on when he arrived. Burdened and weighed down with regrets.

He was only just able to drag himself into the bathroom to have a warm bath. His thoughts haven't for once drifted off from Pamela. He loves her to the moon.

He loved her very much, back then and even now, he loves her more. His love for her seemed to be increasing on a daily basis. He loves her, he has always loved her.

But now, she loves someone else. She is in love with the father of her kids and Louis deserves her. He knows he doesn't deserve her, not after what he's done to her.

Her happiness lies with Louis Hayden. The dude is cute, charming, rich and decent. He has every quality any woman would want.

And only such men deserve to be loved by Pamela. He stood under the shower and let the warm water pour on his head, soaking his hair down to his body.

He wished the water could get to his soul, to his heart and wash away the guilt he felt inside. His burdened heart has been overcome by guilt.

If only he didn't flop, if only he stayed with her alone and not look elsewhere, they would have been happy together now. She wouldn't have been forced into an arranged marriage, nor have kids with Louis.

But then, was it after Louis regained consciousness that he consummated their wedding? To the last minute before she was married to Louis Hayden, she was still a virgin.

And if so, he got her pregnant with quadruplets at a time? Hmmm that guy is something else.

Anyways, he was far and way better than him. He was with Emma for a few years and didn't even realise he was impotent. He has erection and can make love but he was experiencing oligospermia.

Thanks to Emma that he insulted him with it and he went for a check up. He would undergo several treatments and medication to see if his condition can be improved.

Pamela doesn't deserve a man like him who couldn't get her pregnant. She is fortunate to fall in love with a great guy like Louis Hayden.

He wished her thousands of years of happiness. He must see that he played his part, enhancing their closeness, Pamela and Louis further if he ever gets the slightest opportunity.

When Lucas walked out of the bathroom, he discovered that there had been several missed calls on his phone, all the calls had come from a single person; Greg Freeman.

Lucas squinted. Greg Freeman again? Is anything the matter with him? He had called him earlier and he didn't answer because he was with Pamela. What happened?

He decided to call the latter back. "Thank goodness ,Lucas, that you answered your phone. There's been an emergency and Freddie is in the hospital.

We need a deposit for him to be operated upon. I couldn't raise half of the deposit despite adding up my entire savings, can you help save Freddie's life?" Greg asked, his voice shaking.

He could hear Freya's whimpering underground. He was quiet. Freddie is in the hospital and the case is an emergency one? Then deposit to commence a surgery.

"You probably didn't hear that your niece took away everything from me. Place a call to her, she has a lot of money. She should be able to save her father" Lucas suggested.

"I wish I could make her do otherwise. She had refused to help. But don't worry, I was not supposed to call you in the first place. I was so confused and agitated. I'm sorry" Greg declared and hung up.

Lucas felt sorry for Freddie. Himself and Freddie were unfortunate to encounter the women they married in their lives. His own marriage was barely six years before it collapsed.

But Freddie, he had spent more than two decades with that horrible woman. How he survived was something he hadn't come to terms with.

He became more unfortunate to have fathered that mistake of a daughter. She deceived him, cuckold him, betrayed her sister, sent thugs to beat him to stupor and now, she couldn't even save her father from the fat savings she deceptively twisted off his hand?

What kind of a daughter does that to her own father? Is Emma human at all? She really can go to this extent to neglect her father?

Thank goodness he divorced her and let her go with all she's stolen from him. Otherwise, such a woman would send assassins against him the next time she set her eyes on him.

Poor Freddie, he would go and see him immediately. He doesn't have much, but he has a little to give in support for his surgery. If only Pamela would come into the picture.

Lucas slipped into blue jeans and a shirt. Took his car keys and went out that night. He now lives with his mother and stepfather until he's able to get himself his house back.

But they do not interfere with his life and activities. He loved it that way, that way that he was given his own chance and pace.

He drove to the hospital and went into the building. He called Greg and the latter told him that they were in the emergency ward.

He arrived there and saw Greg and Freya seated at a corner."... It's late now, but tomorrow, I will meet Mr Hayden. I'm sure he would help me" Greg said when he suddenly turned and saw Lucas.

"Lucas" he stood up quickly and walked towards him "you are here already?" He asked. It sounded more like a statement than a question.

Lucas nodded. He looked past them at Freddie Grayson who lay unconscious on the bed. He glanced at Freya expressionless and didn't feel obligated to her anymore.

"Hi Freya" he mumbled, his hands in his pants pocket. He doesn't know if he was right or not, but he saw a flush of guilt on her face when she saw him.

"Yeah..hmm.. how have you been, Lucas?" Freya stuttered. She felt her heart almost skip when she saw Lucas.

Her hands shiver and the gush of guilt she felt is something hard for her to explain. She couldn't dare to meet Lucas' gaze for guilt.

"How much do you need for the deposit?" Lucas asked, totally ignoring Freya and gazing at Greg. In the heat of all that befell him, Greg Freeman was standing up for him, offering him a shoulder to lean on.

He accommodated him and Freddie. They were like a family back then and he was the youngest of them.

Greg told him how much they needed and how much he had at hand. Lucas said alright, he would lend them the money to deposit so that Freddie can get medical attention quickly.

Greg was impressed and he thanked him. Lucas offered his credit card and helped them out. He didn't wait another minute but left. He was just concerned about Freddie, if it were a certain person, he would gladly sit back with his legs crossed and await the unfortunate news of her calamity.

Next morning, Lucas arrived at the office and was greeted by a letter from his secretary. He told her to leave it on his desk and go back to work.

Nelly had become a total stranger to Lucas. After that incident at her apartment, Lucas never said anything about it nor reacted in any way.

He would treat her as if they never had a past together. Even if she tries to initiate a conversation, Lucas would not be interested in talking to her about anything else other than official things.

His cold attitude is sending her crazy especially now that things are not working out well between her and Phil. She also heard and knew that Lucas was divorced.

But she's never seen him with anyone else. He truly got separated from his ex? She lingered and stared at him when Lucas raised his head and saw her still standing.

"Is there a problem?" Lucas asked, with so much irritation in his tone. Nelly simply turned and walked out.

This is not the same Lucas she had known and dated back then. She just wants them to be back together again.

Lucas glared at her retreating back view. He hissed between gritted teeth. There are some things that can never repeat itself in his life, and one of such things is Nelly.
