Chapter 15: Chapter 15
Pamela sighed softly. This was going to be difficult to keep. How long can she keep this good news from Louis? The fellow had told her he wants her to flush the foetus away.
In fact, he called it a distraction. Now after check up, she was told the foetus was fine and was growing.
Invariably, she was pregnant already. When she got out, Leah told her to keep the foetus safe and see that nothing happened to it.
She can hide it as long as she can without Louis knowing about it. But when it becomes obvious and her baby bump begins showing will she still be able to hide it? Leah had told her that if she discovered that Louis was suspecting her, she would send her away abroad.
She would be safe and her baby. She would try to see that Louis doesn't have a way of hurting his own child in any way.
Pamela said okay and returned home. She must take deliberate steps to avoid meeting Louis at the dinning or crossing paths with him.
How can she carry his child in her belly and he doesn't appreciate it? He dared to call it a distraction. Such a mean word to use on his unborn child.
Pamela arrived at the house late in the evening. She stopped by the campus to check on her result. It wasn't out yet, though she knew but wanted to linger till she returned home in the evening.
She lay on her bed with her back and caressed her belly. She was going to have a difficult time staying in the house. But she had nowhere else to go.
She's not a part of Grayson's family anymore. She's married to Louis, even if he refused to acknowledge it, hence she cannot leave his Mansion.
Leah Hayden made sure she got enough supplements and advised her on diets she should be taking. She told her she would always be checking on her.
That way, many days passed without Louis knowing a thing. He had now started going out but would not be able to stand for such a long time like he was used to before the accident.
Pamela remained a wife to Louis and Leah didn't go back on her words. She checks on Pamela every two days and calls her as often as she can on a daily basis.
Days passed and soon it was one month. Pamela went to the hospital again. While the ultrasound was being done, she suddenly saw the eyes of the doctor brighten up in excitement.
"Congratulations Mrs Hayden, there are four pollen grains growing in your belly" the doctor announced. He checked again and smiled broadly.
"Pollen grains, what does it mean doctor?" Pamela asked. What she expected the doctor to say was that her baby was doing great. Why pollen grains?
"Oh sorry, it's a medical term. What I meant to say was that there are four foetuses growing in your belly and they are very healthy…" the doctor was saying when Pamela suddenly jumped off the couch.
"Four foetuses growing in my belly and you are congratulating me?" Pamela was alarmed. She took her handbag and walked briskly away.
She was sobbing. Four what? What did he say, how can he say four foetuses were growing in her belly? What had she done to deserve this fate in life?
Her life was in disarray and was thinking on how to hide the belly and disappeared from Louis life. How can she be living with a man that detest her and sees her as a pain in his ass?
Now, the doctor dared to tell her four foetuses were growing in her belly. He probably was not seeing well. Why did Leah bring her to see such an incompetent doctor?
He was lying there. She hissed and went away without waiting to hear anything else. She wasn't going to see the doctor again.
Surprised, the doctor tried to stop Pamela and asked her what was wrong with her but the woman snubbed him and went away.
He picked up his phone and dialled Leah Hayden's contact. Soon, it got connected. "Is the baby doing well?" Was the first question she asked.
"They are doing well, perfectly growing and very healthy. But then your daughter in-law walked away furiously. I really don't know what I have done wrong" the doctor quickly explained.
He doesn't want to offend Leah Hayden, not to mention her son Louis Hayden. She can't just leave without saying a word.
"What did you say? They, what do you mean they?" Leah asked, her heart beating fast to hear something new.
"Four foetuses are growing.." the doctor was saying, when Leah interrupted him "four?" She asked and hung up.
Leah Hayden didn't say another but dashed out, calling the chauffeur to drive her in the direction of the hospital. Ellis tried to stop her but Leah said she needs to see Pamela immediately.
She called Pamela while in the car but she didn't answer her phone. She had to call three times before the young woman answered.
"Where are you, I mean now?"Leah asked, not bothering to exchange pleasantries.
What kind of women are these Hayden's? The younger Mrs Hayden left suddenly, not waiting for him to finish his words.
Now the older Mrs Hayden interrupted him and next hung up. That family must be fortunate to have such women with similar attitudes as their wives.
Leah eventually met Pamela in another hospital going in to have another ultrasound done. This time, Leah Hayden insisted that she wants to go in as well.
While Pamela was being examined, Leah Hayden fixed her eyes on the monitor. She saw the tiny creatures whose size is not more than a pea.
"What did you see?" Pamela asked, not bothering to look at the monitor. Leah was beaming with a smile but Pamela's face wasn't looking alright at all.
"You are having four babies growing…" the doctor was saying and Pamela interrupted him again "you also saw four?" She asked in alarm.
"Pamela dear, don't get upset. We'll talk about it when we are alone" Leah tried to calm her down.
Pamela was sobbing. How can she be carrying four foetuses in her belly? If the first doctor was wrong, and doesn't know his job well. Will she say the same thing with this other doctor?
Leah pulled her into a hug. She was tapping Pamela's back gently to pacify her. She was happy and tried to let her see beyond her fears.
She would be a mother of four kids at a time. Isn't that amazing? But Pamela saw it from a different perspective. She doesn't know how to cope with it when Louis doesn't want her pregnant.
"I didn't bargain for four Mrs Leah. I wanted just one, to fulfil my promise to you" how am I supposed to carry four kids with my belly without the children's father being interested in them?" She inquired.
Leah assured her and said she would think of what to do with her and the unborn babies. They might send her abroad as soon as possible before Louis ever detected anything.
The doctors had inseminated a few spermatozoa into her with the hope that at least one would survive. How were they supposed to know that four would survive?
She felt a lot of sympathy for Pamela. How can she feel so much regret because she agreed to help her. She was the one who brought the idea and she promised to help her.
While the two women were in the car, a certain person just got her answers from the orphanage where Pamela was adopted.
"Hello ma'am, we found who adopted her. We would go ahead to find her" the fellow declared and hung up.
In the corner of the room, an old lady felt relieved. Finally her desire was going to be fulfilled. She would spend the rest of her few days in satisfaction.
She checked through her phone and saw the pictures her assistant just sent. She was shocked and shivered at the face of the woman whose picture she just received.
What a resemblance? Oh gosh.
