Chapter 84: Chapter 84
Days passed by without waiting for anybody. Shravan and Drishti’s life moved forwards, with the day to day romance and fights.
It was one such evening, and Drishti was getting ready to go out for dinner. Drishti had been looking forward to this night for weeks, as it marked their anniversary, a day they usually celebrated with joy and love. It was their sixth wedding anniversary. Six years since that accidental wedding, where they got hitched without even knowing who they were getting married to.
It was just pure luck that they fell hopelessly in love with each other. It is still a mystery to them how they, with totally opposite personalities, fell in love with each other.
As they stood in front of the mirror, Drishti noticed that Shravan seemed unusually distracted.
"I can't believe it's been six years already! I am so happy to spend this special day with you!" Drishti said excitedly.
"Uh, yeah, me too. It's great, but I've got a lot on my mind with work and everything." Shravan said hesitantly.
Drishti felt a pang of disappointment but brushed it off, thinking that Shravan might be having a busy day.
"Don't worry, we'll have a fantastic time tonight, just the two of us." Drishti said, forcing a smile on her face.
"About that... I have something urgent that came up at work, and I'll have to cancel our plans. I am really sorry." Shravan said anxiously.
Drishti's smile faded, and her heart sank. She couldn't believe that Shravan had forgotten their special day.
"You forgot, didn't you? Our anniversary?" Drishti asked, trying to hide her hurt.
"No, I didn't forget! It's just that work is really demanding right now, and I need to handle this situation." Shravan said defensively.
"Work is always demanding! But our anniversary comes once a year, and you can't even spare a few hours for us?" Drishti asked in disappointment.
"It's not like that! You know I value our relationship, but sometimes things come up unexpectedly!" Shravan said, trying to curb his frustration.
"I had been looking forward to tonight for so long. It hurts that you don't seem to care as much." Drishti said, wiping away the angry tears that ran down her cheeks.
"I do care! It's just that I have a lot of responsibilities, and sometimes I can't juggle everything." Shravan said guiltily.
"Responsibilities are important, but so is our relationship! Do you even realise how much effort I put into making things special for us?" Drishti asked angrily.
"I know, and I appreciate everything you do. I didn't mean to overlook our anniversary; it's just that everything got so hectic." Shravan said apologetically.
"It's not just about tonight; it's about feeling neglected in general. Sometimes I feel like I come second after your work." Drishti said furiously, anger taking over her senses.
"I am really sorry if I have made you feel that way. I never intended to prioritise work over us." Shravan said softly.
Drishti took a deep breath, trying to compose herself and not let her emotions spiral out of control. She knew that shouting at Shravan wouldn't solve anything, but she needed him to understand how hurt she felt.
"I just wish you would communicate with me more, Shravan. If something important comes up, tell me in advance so we can figure it out together. Keeping me in the dark and then dropping the news at the last minute hurts," Drishti said, her voice wavering with vulnerability.
Shravan realised the impact of his actions on Drishti and regretted not discussing the situation with her beforehand.
"You're right, and I promise to do better," he said sincerely. "I know it won't make up for missing tonight, but can we reschedule our anniversary celebration? Maybe this weekend?"
Drishti sighed, her anger subsiding slightly. "Fine, but you better not cancel again," she said, a hint of a smile returning to her face.
"I won't, I promise," Shravan replied, genuinely determined to make it up to her.
Over the next few days, Shravan made an effort to communicate more with Drishti about his work commitments and to prioritise their time together. He surprised her with thoughtful gestures and little acts of love throughout the week. Slowly, Drishti began to feel more valued and appreciated.
On the rescheduled anniversary celebration, Shravan went all out to make it special. He took Drishti to a beautiful rooftop restaurant with fairy lights and live music, just like how Drishti likes it. The evening was filled with laughter, heartfelt conversations, and rekindled romance.
"Drishti, I am really sorry for how I acted earlier. I know I messed up, but I want you to know that you mean the world to me," Shravan said, holding her hand across the table.
Drishti looked into his eyes and saw genuine remorse. "It hurt when you cancelled on me, but I can see that you're making an effort now. I appreciate that," she replied softly.
"I promise to work on my communication and to cherish every moment we have together," Shravan vowed.
As they held hands and gazed at the stars, Shravan apologised again for his previous insensitivity.
"I don't want you to feel like you come second to anything in my life. You are my top priority, and I promise to make sure you always feel that way," he said, his sincerity shining through.
Drishti smiled, feeling reassured and loved. "And I promise to be more understanding and patient when things get tough at work," she said, realising that their relationship requires effort from both of them.
From that day forward, Shravan and Drishti made a conscious effort to communicate more and prioritise each other amidst their responsibilities. Their love grew stronger, and they learned that it was the small, consistent acts of love and understanding that made their relationship resilient.
Life continued to throw challenges their way, but now they faced them together, hand in hand, knowing that their love was strong enough to weather any storm. Their anniversary became a celebration not just of a single day but of the love they nurtured and cherished every day.
