Chapter 35: Chapter 35

"HERE'S your clothes." I said as I handed Xander his pair of pajamas for tonight. I also opened the bathroom door for him.

"Just call me if there's a problem." I said as I led him to the entrance of the bathroom.

"Aren't you gonna join me inside?" Xander cocked his head to me.

"Huh?"

"We ate dessert, didn't we? You should brush our teeth, then."

My lips parted. "Uh… yeah." I cleared my throat. "But I'll just clean myself after you're done."

Xander pursed his lips. "Why do it later when we can go in together?"

My eyes widened. "Do you want me to join you?"

"Sure." He shrugged. "The bathroom's wide for the two of us. Besides, we're a married couple anyway."

I swallowed. "O-okay. Let's go."

I let him enter the bathroom first. Then I followed him. We both stood in front of the wide sink.

"Here's your toothbrush." I said as I handed him his toothbrush. I already put toothpaste on it.

"Thanks, Charity."

Together, we brush our teeth while facing the mirror. I couldn't help but watch his reflection. Even if he's just brushing his teeth, he's still attractive in my eyes.

"I'll go out now so you can now change your clothes," I said after putting back the toothbrush on the sink.

"You don't want to help me?" He asked, his eyebrows slightly rose.

"Help you with what?"

"Getting dressed?" There was a small smile on his lips.

My lips slightly parted. Now, he wanted me to help him? "I thought you could do that on your own?"

"Right," he said with a small chuckle. "Fine. I'll just leave the bathroom door open so you can watch me."

My eyes widened. "Watch you?" I cleared my throat.

"Do you have a problem with that, sweetheart?" He asked, his lips pursed.

I vehemently shook my head. "Of course not. Fine. Leave the door open."

I stepped outside the bathroom, and left the door open.

My eyes couldn't help but stay on him as he took off his clothes. I swallowed when I saw his perfect physique. From his broad shoulders, chiseled chest… down to his washboard abs. Damn. I felt my neck heating up.

Shit, Charity! I averted my gaze when he started pulling down the waistband of his pants. I went to the closet and decided to change my clothes.

By the time Xander went out of the bathroom, I was already dressed in pajamas.

"Let's go to sleep," I said. Just like arrangements the past nights, he went to the right side of the bed where he was always sleeping. I went to the left side just beside the lampshade.

After Xander settled down, I already turned off the lights and laid down on the side of the bed.

"Good night, Xander." I said in a soft voice.

Instead of turning his back at me just like what he did the first nights that were here, he turned sideways facing me. His eyes were opened and I felt like he's looking at me.

"Uh… you're still not sleepy, Xander?" I asked him.

"Charity… why are you farther away from me? We're husband and wife, right?"

I cleared my throat. "I… I thought you're still not comfortable with us sleeping beside each other. I mean… I get it. I'm still a stranger to you."

He tapped the space next to him. "Come here. Come closer to me."

My lips parted. I swallowed. "Are you sure?"

"Come here, wife."

Shit. I could feel my heart inside my chest as I moved my body closer to him. It was beating fast and loud. I hoped he wouldn't hear my wild heartbeat.

He placed his arms on my side. It was suddenly imprisoned in his arms. I tried to relax my breath.

"Are you okay?" he asked, his voice soft and gentle like the wind.

"Uh… yeah."

"Why are you so stiff?" I could feel his breath on my face. It was warm, but smelled so good.

"I… I wasn't used to us sleeping in one bed." I uttered slowly, almost whispering.

"We haven't slept in one bed before?"

I tried to look at his face. His eyes were still open, his eyebrows slightly creased.

I bit my lower lip. "I… uh… nothing happened between us yet." I felt my cheeks heated up. "I'm still a virgin, Xander." Now. I could really feel my cheeks heated up. I bet they were already as red as tomatoes.

"You didn't have any boyfriend before?"

I pursed my lips. "Of course, I dated guys… but I didn't get physical with them." Shit! How would I tell him that the reason I was innocent until now was that because I was in love with him since I was eighteen and that I couldn't get myself to date another when I was in Greece because every time I looked at them, all I could think was him.

"How about when we get together?" he asked, his voice almost breathless. I felt like melting under his arms.

"We kissed, of course. But I… we haven't gotten past that." I cleared my throat. "Well, we were supposed to do that on our honeymoon but then you had an accident."

"I…" I watched as his lips parted. It was like he wanted to say something but decided against it. He cleared his throat.

"Let's sleep, Charity," he finally said. He grabbed the comforter and pulled to cover our body.

"Okay." I tried to look at him. Our faces were just mere inches away from each other.

I wonder what would be his reaction if I kissed him right now? Before I could even think, I already closed the distance between us and gave him a peck on his cheek.

"Good night, Xander. I love you." I said. Shit. I bit my lower lip. I couldn't believe I was able to do that.

I could feel my heart making cartwheels inside my chest.

Then I closed my eyes hard and waited for his violent reaction. But it didn't come. Instead, I felt his kiss on top of my head.

"Good night, Charity."
