Chapter 39: Chapter 39
Few weeks after the incident, Nikki was in the living room helping Miracle who had been annoying her with her assignments.
"Can't you get me at all?" Nikki shouted with an exclamation of annoyance.
"She can't, you keep yelling at the innocent girl when in true fact you're the one with the problem," Lisha replied as she walked into the living room.
Nikki looked up and threw her scowl, "Please, you have no concern here, you can go give birth to your own fucking child then..."
Lisha cut in, "Well, I'm here because of that," then she sat on the sofa.
Quickly, Nikki snapped her head towards her. What! Is Lisha pregnant? Different thoughts raced through her mind.
"Let me save you the grace of thinking too much so you don't run mad, I'm giving you this house even though you don't deserve it at all."
Nikki wriggled her eyebrows, "What do you mean? Are you finally getting your pathetic self out of my life?"
Lisha waved her hand,"Call it whatever, I think this rift between us would be stopping soon."
Just then Nikki noticed something shining on Lisha's hand. A ring? She shook her head before looking closely, what! A diamond ring?
"Where did you get this from?" She pointed at the ring with disgust evident in her voice.
"I stole it," Lisha snorted.
"Wait, did Jimi propose to you?"
"No, I'm planning to be Lord of the rings," She replied sarcastically and that fuelled Nikki's anger.
"You're getting married? How is that possible? It can't be possible, It can never happen," she shook her head vigorously as she got up from her seat.
"Well, it is possible and don't forget your daughter is right beside you, you don't want her knowing what's going on, she can be inquisitive, she..."
"Shut it! Shut the hell!" Nikki thundered.
Lisha hissed scathingly before getting up, "You have no right to tell me to shut up in my house," she poked Nikki's chest before turning to leave but Nikki stopped her by grabbing her hand.
"I promise you, you'll never get married to Jimi, over my dead body will you do that," she whispered with hatred laced in her tone.
"And I promise you we'll get married right in front you," then she jerked her hand away from Nikki before walking back to her room.
Nikki with all frustration combining with dejection slumped on the chair as her head started banging and debating furiously trying to figure some things, calculating her next plan. Lisha would never get married to Jimi while she was alive. She can never watch the love of her life getting married to her sister, she...
"Mom, can you...."
"Miracle, go to your room!" She ordered while trying to contain her anger.
"But mom, you..."
"Get away before I slap you!"
"What do you mean I can't marry him?" Lisha questioned while glaring at Nikki who was seated beside her dad with a fixed mischievous smile.
Seeing her dad and Nikki's mom at her place that afternoon, Lisha knew her dad was up to no good considering the fact that Gloria wasn't looking happy too, Lisha knew they didn't come to visit her but rather to come create some trouble and whip her emotions the way he's been doing detecting her since child birth. But, she never expected it to be this. She never believed dad could go that low for Nikki who had in ordinary sense made him proud.
"See, why would you get married to your sister's fiance?" Her dad asked as calmly as he could.
Lisha glanced at Nikki, "What do you mean? Me, get married to Nikki's fiance, how is that possible and who is this fiance?"
"Are you asking me that? You know it within yourself but you just want to covet your sister's ..."
Lisha cut in, "I hope it's not Jimi you're talking about because I'm not coveting any thing from your daughter, rather she's the one doing that."
"Will you keep your mouth shut! Whichever way it is, the fact that you girls are fighting over him, then that means he can't get married to you."
Lisha scoffed a laugh, "You don't mean it, do you?"
"I mean everything I just said."
Lisha shook her head, "No, you don't, I'm an adult and I can dictate my life not like I've not been doing that since birth, so, you can't just come to my house because Nikki filled you with some nonsense."
"Are you talking to me in that manner?" He yelled and Gloria who had been quiet all through rubbed her palm on his hand in an attempt to placate him.
"If that's all you came for, then I'm sorry to tell you, it's futile."
"How dare you disobey dad?" Nikki shouted.
"Well, how dare you lie against me, you villest, despicable maggot? If you have nothing better to say, please, take your leave, you're suffocating me, and I don't want anybody creating some embarrassing scenes in my house" Lisha said before standing up to leave.
"Sit down! You wouldn't dare leave this ..."
And she walked away.
"Felicia!" He called but she ascended the stairs leaving them staring at one another.
"So you want to do Gran's final burial on my birthday which also happens to be my wedding day?" Lisha asked on top of her voice.
"Yeah," Nikki replied.
"The question wasn't directed to you idiot, mongrel, but your father, do you really hate me that much, just because Nikki has been filling you with rubbish, so you are determined to destroy my happiness, my future!" She screamed this time as she couldn't contain the anger again.
Lately, she'd been getting irate easily and it was all because of Nikki and her dad.
"Felicia, you have no right to scream at me, I'm your father!"
Lisha cackled, "My father? You call yourself my father? Are you really my father? Nikki is the only daughter you have, I'm an orphan," she yelled and Gloria quickly ran to her as she tried to calm her down.
"Take it or leave it, Gran's burial is on your birthday and to top it all your wedding,"Nikki snorted and before she could blink Lisha rushed at her.
"Lisha, stop it! Stop all this nonsense!" Their father bellowed but she didn't leave Nikki until she scratched her face.
"What did you do to my face?" Nikki growled.
"Your plan to ruin my wedding can never be successful, I promise you," Lisha gritted before picking up her bag while Gloria was still holding her.
"Felicia, sit down and listen to me, the fact that your grandma's burial is on your wedding means that wedding wouldn't push through, you..."
"To hell with you all," Lisha grunted before storming out of the house.
"Felicia! Felicia!"
Immediately Lisha walked out the house in exasperation, she got into her car and decided to drive straight to Jimi's place.
"Hey, Li baby, I didn't know you were coming," Soil greeted with a wide smile as Lisha walked into the living room.
The anger in Lisha had almost faded then so, it was easy for her to smile back at Soil, "I just decided to visit mama."
"Oh, that's good then, Jimi is in his room because I know you came for him," Soil teased and Lisha smiled in return.
"I came for you too oo," Lisha replied before sitting by her.
Soil twisted her brows, "Hmm, go and meet your hubby."
"You're the one telling me to go to him oo."
"Go," Soil pushed her and Lisha laughed before standing up.
She ambled towards Jimi's room and barged into his room like always, he was just stepping out of the bathroom with his towel wrapped around his torso.
"You have knuckles to knock abi, na only to punch my stomach, what if I was naked?" He grunted and Lisha rolled her eyes.
"But you aren't," she replied before sitting on his bed while he walked into his closet to change only to come out few minutes later.
"Your plan is to seduce me right?" Lisha asked as she stared at his chest, he was only in knee-length shorts.
"If that's what you call it," he replied before sitting on his bed.
"Won't you wear a shirt?" She questioned as she moved closer to him.
"I'm not, you didn't tell me you were coming," he said as he leaned his back on the wall.
"Do I have to tell you that?"
He shook his head and silence ensued. They stayed in silence for some minutes until Jimi broke the ice.
"What's wrong?" He asked after noticing she didn't look her cheerful self.
"Nothing," she replied succinctly.
"You know you can't hide it from me, so, what's wrong?" He pestered and Lisha gave up.
"My supposed family is just getting me pissed every now and then."
He lifted his brows, "What did they do again, this time?"
She turned to look at him squarely, " They've decided to hold Gran's final burial party on my birthday just to hinder our wedding."
"What!"
"I know Nikki planned everything, that girl is just infuriating me day by day and her dad is no different, sometimes I wonder if she really doesn't want me in his life, not like he acknowledges me as his daughter and now he wants to hinder my happiness, he should have just opted me out for adoption then if she didn't want me this much," she said bitterly while Jimi pulled her close to him.
"It's going to be fine," he said in a soothing manner and she nodded before resting her head on his bare chest while he ran his hand through her hair.
"You smell of coconut," he sniffled and she raised her head.
"It's from you and not me oo," she replied and then poked his forehead while he smiled before she resumed resting her head on his chest.
