Chapter 30: Chapter 30
Kendall struggled to open his mouth. He didn’t know where he was going to start. When he was still in the room he seemed to be able to say everything. But now that he was in the car with Grayson the rats were suddenly running into his chest.
Grayson was serious and quiet. He doesn't talk to the girl much. But he hopes to hear from her about her confessed jealousy of Noah. He knew it was a woman's habit to ignore anything she knew to say. Often it just passes days until they no longer talk about it. But this time he was waiting for what it would say.
"Grayson ..."
Grayson turned to the next. Although it called his name it was still staring at the road. Her heartbeat quickened. He hoped that she would talk about their confrontation.
"I'm sorry for my behavior these past few days ..." Kendall said without still looking at the person he was talking to.
"It's not really a big deal," was the short answer of the man who was still waiting for the continuation of what the girl had to say.
There was a moment of silence.
"Is there anything else? Do you want to say anything else?" Grayson couldn't stand it anymore.
Kendall swallowed a few times first. Someone seemed to be struggling to choke his throat. He tightened his grip on the steering wheel. "I-I would like to atone for my sins with you ..."
Grayson slowly smiled as he stared at the passing billboards. Finally the girl will speak as well.
"Grayson, g-do you want to go out of town?"
He suddenly looked next to him. He was surprised by the question. It was far from what he expected to hear. "Out of town? Why are you asking me about that?"
"I would have invited you this weekend."
"Where?"
"S-In Lakewood."
"Why did we suddenly invite you?"
"D-didn't I say I'll get back at you for my sins."
"Who's coming with us? Are the gangs with us?"
"It's just the two of us. Don't include Cady either."
Grayson was stunned. He could not believe that the words came from the woman's own mouth. "You're joking, right?"
"I'm not joking."
"Then why can't you look me in the eyes?"
Only then was Kendall forced to look at the man with a serious face. "I'm not joking."
He rolled his eyes at the road but Grayson remained staring at his face.
"What's your reason behind this?"
"I'll tell you later."
"I need to know before I say yes." Grayson turned his eyes to the outside of the car again.
"Ah, that's right. All right, it doesn't matter. Maybe I'll make it worse for Noah."
The eyebrows met and the man immediately turned to the person he was talking to. "Can't you tell whether I'm joking or not ?! Why would I refuse that kind of invitation from you?! .... Ilang araw ba tayo dun?" its rapid recovery.
"Two days."
Gradually Grayson smiled mischievously. "Are we going to sleep in one room?"
"Sure."
"How about sharing one bed?"
"All right."
The man frowned. "When did you learn to be wild?"
"When you go wild right away? Can't you just be brave first?" Kendall's snout.
"Hehe ... not funny .... As long as there's nothing left to say huh?"
Kendall secretly glanced at the happy companion as he comfortably leaned back in the chair. The smiles never left his face as he felt layers of stones running down his chest.
------
Arriving on campus, Kendall immediately invited Grayson to go straight to the classroom. He plans to have breakfast while the professor is away. When they got there he immediately saw Nancy. He stepped aside and greeted the classmate happily.
"Hi Nancy!"
The woman who at those times was writing seriously raised her head. "Oh hi Hailey! I think you and Grayson are early now."
"Yes, Grayson called early because he wanted us to have breakfast outside," he replied with a smile.
Nancy stopped writing and gave him a strained smile. "Ah that's right. It looks like you've been sweet lately. It's good that Cady isn't jealous of you."
"Cady? Oh, she won't be jealous, she knows that Grayson and I are really close before they even get back together," he said enthusiastically.
The speaker went back to writing. He hissed at Grayson and motioned for him to come over to him. The man followed and sat in the empty chair next to him.
"Why?"
He pulled Grayson even closer. He ordered him to stick the chair he was sitting on to his chair. As it came very close to him, he gripped one of its palms tightly and stared into its eyes. The man was startled and his eyes widened.
"W-what are you doing Hailey?"
"Are you afraid they'll look at us and it'll get to Cady?" smiling and tenderly Kendall said.
"It's not about that. There's something wrong in your actions now."
"Is it true you said you were jealous of Noah?"
Grayson was even more surprised. Although he should be happy because the girl had already gossiped about this matter but he was suddenly upset because he did not expect her to talk to him right in the classroom.
"Y-Yes. I mean it," he answered weakly.
"Wouldn't you really accept if I had another man in my life?"
"M-Hailey why do you have to ask that here?" Grayson whispered shyly as one hand simply covered the blushing face.
Kendall glanced at Nancy. His hand was shaking. Emphasis is placed on the piercing of the ballpen in the writing notebook. He touched the man's palm even more tenderly.
"You're asking me why we're going out of town this weekend aren't you?" gently and with a smile he said.
"Yeah I did."
"I'll answer now ...." He stared into the confused speaker's eyes. "... because I want to think about all the things you said. I also want to know if I can live a few days with you being the only man next to me."
Grayson was stunned to hear. Suddenly all his feelings of shame were erased. He felt that one by one his fellow students in the room disappeared. He also stared at the girl. There was nothing running through his mind but to prove to him that he was a worthy man and that he could stand the words he uttered.
Smiling the woman let go of her hand.
"Okay Grayson. I've already said what I want to say. You can go back to your seat."
He nodded. He returned to his own seat still unable to speak while filled with astonishment.
Kendall still feels like Nancy is already stooping to write. Moments later he released a brochure of a resort. He pretended to read it while studying it carefully. The neighbor glanced at it and couldn't bear not to ask.
"What's that Hailey?"
He smiled broadly and spoke excitedly. "Resort brochure. Look oh! Have you been here yet?"
He reached for the handle next to it.
"H-Not yet."
"Ah that's right. I'd like to ask if it's really nice there and quiet. Grayson and I are going there this weekend."
Nancy smiled hard again.
"Y-Just the two of you?"
Smiling he nodded. He looked at the other person's face but was not unaware that his hand was shaking with jealousy while holding the brochure. He straightened up and left the paper in the hand of the person next to him. He took a book out of the bag and pretended to read. Soon Nancy stood up. He followed it with looks.
Nancy went to the nearest women’s CR. Take a look around before opening one of the cubicles. Entering immediately picked up the phone and shivered angrily dialed.
"Hello, we need to meet later. I have something important to say ..."
"I found out that Grayson is going out of town this weekend ..."
"They were just two when I mentioned my female classmate that he used to hang out with ..."
"Man, I don't want them to continue walking ..."
"All right, I'll find out more details before we meet. Bye."
When the phone rang, Nancy flushed the bowl. Take a deep breath and then exit the cubicle.
A few minutes after Nancy exited the CR, the adjacent door of her original cubicle opened.
Kendall came out of it with a serious face and sharp eyes. Smiling, he grabbed the cellphone. "Hello inspector, let's continue this weekend ...."
------
Weekend. Nine o'clock in the morning. Kendall was facing the mirror in the bathroom of his room. The face is serious. Staring at self. The will is conditioned on everything that can happen in their operation.
She attached a button speaker to her bra. A wireless headset is worn on the left ear.
"Hello Inspector Green. Is that clear? '
"Yes, inspector. Are you ready?"
"I'm still working on notifying you when we leave."
He came out of the bathroom. Wearing a favorite leather jacket. Took the hidden gun in the cabinet. Reviewed what was inserted in this magazine. When he saw that it was still full of ammunition, he squeezed the gun into the inner pocket of his jacket.
He also pulled out the hidden suitcase and took out spare magazines. He stabbed two in the other pocket of the jacket then returned the suitcase to hiding.
"Inspector I'm ready."
"Okay, listen carefully Inspector Whitlock. There are ten vehicles waiting for you at the intersection of EDSA and North Ave. Five vehicles will be parked in front of you and five vehicles will be behind you. Simplify us with a word when you get close to North Ave. so we can prepare. Soon I will connect this radio to all our colleagues in the operation so that everyone can hear whatever you have to say. "
"Copy inspector."
Tok.Tok.Tok.
Kendall let out a very deep sigh. He grabbed the carry -on bag and faced Grayson with a serious face. He sealed that in the mind that from this time it was all just work, there was no longer any personal flaw.
"Are you ready?" the man asked vigorously.
"Yes."
Arriving at the vehicle the two placed the carry -on luggage in the trunk. Before Kendall could start the car, Grayson stared at him first.
"Hailey, I am going to prove to you in this trip that I'm a man worth keeping."
Kendall was immediately grabbed by the chest to cover the attached mic.
“Wow that was one hell of a cheesy line,” Noah joked.
The girl blushed with embarrassment especially when she heard the laughter of the other colleagues. "Grayson, let's not talk about personal things while we're on the trip," he said while still covering his chest with one hand.
"Why?"
"I want to concentrate on driving."
"Okay. Tell me if you're tired already so I can drive."
Kendall started driving. Grayson turned on the car player and played loud. The girl killed him immediately.
"Why? Can't we listen to music so that our trip won't be boring?"
"Just listen to your iPod. Wear a headset."
Grayson followed. He pulled out the iPod and put on the headset. He leaned back comfortably in his chair while listening to loud music.
Kendall looked next door as they neared the spot where his companions were waiting. It sticks and quietly listens to the iPod.
"It's East Avenue," he said hurriedly.
"Okay."
Arriving on North Avenue Kendall nodded.
"Let the five cars be ahead of you."
He lowered the glass of his window. He let five cars get ahead of him. Each of the vehicles honked before he passed. Its windows were also lowered and he was greeted by his fellow passengers. He reciprocated them with a simple nod while Grayson was unaware of the signals taking place. It was still clinging and listening to music.
After being overtaken by five vehicles, Kendall returned to normal.
"Chief and I are behind you inspector."
He looked in the rearview mirror and immediately saw the car Noah was driving. His eyes also searched for other tailed vehicles.
After the vehicles were positioned, everyone was temporarily silent. And when they turned right at Balintawak, entering the North express way, a blue starex van suddenly entered between Noah and Kendall's vehicle.
Noah gave in to the intrusion. But because of this, he could not see much of Kendall's car because it was already covered by the said van. He patiently waited for it to pass the girl's car but they had been driving along the north expressway for a long time and the van still did not change position.
Noah was limited. He switched lanes and drove the van. He could not see its occupants in the overly tinted windows.
"Inspector Whitlock, take a good look at the blue van that followed you."
"I've noticed that before," the girl answered quickly.
"Change of plan! I don't think they're going to do it in the location!" Noah quickly gave an alert warning to colleagues.
"Confirm it Inspector Whitlock!"
"Copy."
Kendall first looked at the van in the mirror then he turned to Grayson. It still has no knowledge of what is happening.
He accelerated the speed of the car. The van also accelerated. He slowed the pace. The van also slowed down.
"Let's not prolong it any longer. Let's end it here," he said determinedly.
"What is your plan inspector?"
"I'll speed up the pace. Follow my speed with those in front."
"Copy inspector!"
Kendall shook the blindfolded one next to him. He removed the headset from one of its ears.
"Grayson! Follow everything I tell you!" he uttered loudly as he shifted his eyes to the cars in front and to the tailed van.
Grayson was shocked. "Why?"
Kendall didn't answer instead he pressed the cylinder and started the car fast. The van also accelerated but failed to keep up with his speed.
"We're on the quiet part of the highway! Do something inspector Whitlock! I think they'll make the road plan."
"I know."
"What did you say? Are you talking to someone? What's with this speed? Are you racing?" Grayson asked in confusion.
When Kendall was more than two hundred meters away from the van, he parked the car in the emergency parking lot of the expressway. They are located near the plantations. There aren’t any establishments standing here.
"Grayson get down!"
"What?"
"I said get down!" Kendall shouted with a sharp look.
Grayson immediately unbuckled his seatbelt. He quickly obeyed the command of the seemingly angry companion. He got out of the car and then the girl got out of the door.
The two stood next to the car. Kendall pretended to look at the car tires as if they were damaged.
"Grayson when I say sit down. Sit down," he said while still looking at the wheel.
"What's going on here?"
"Don't ask. Just follow."
When Kendall saw the approaching van he still continued to pretend they were damaged but he had already prepared himself. Suddenly the blue van stopped beside them. Before it could open the door, Kendall immediately grabbed Grayson by the arm and pulled him down.
"SIT!!!"
They sat down and hid behind the car door. The van door opened. Kendall immediately saw the armed men wearing stockings on their heads. He quickly pulled out a gun.
"Grayson LIE LOW!!!"
He fired at the men who were about to go down. And when he fired at them he quickly closed the door and started the car. He did not stop firing. He tried to hit the wheel of the car.
After hearing the gunshots, the police immediately positioned themselves in front of Kendall. It blocked vehicles to block the road. Simultaneously civilian authorities stormed out and took refuge in vehicles as guns were pointed at the oncoming van.
The kidnappers immediately saw the positioned policemen. They stopped.
Kendall quickly read the criminals ’plan.
"Grayson don't leave here."
He ran fast as he shifted the magazine of the gun towards the suspects ’vehicle. He saw its door open. They tried to break out but he was met with gunfire. Some of the men returned to the vehicle and fired back at him. He hid in a nearby phone booth and resumed the shootout.
The vehicles of Noah' group arrived and opened fire on the men who were fighting.
Kendall spotted a man getting out of the car. It runs into the orchard. He let Noah shoot at those in the van and chased the fugitive. The man was unaware that someone was chasing him.
Kendall ran at breakneck speed. And when he got a little closer to it he suddenly stopped. The gun was pointed. Closed one eye. She aimed and smiled foolishly.
"You're still going to run away."
BANG!
The kidnapper fell. It is from the thigh.
He approached the man and aimed a gun at him. The suspect immediately threw down his weapon and raised his hands.
"I need someone here. We're just going to carry a heavy animal," Kendall radioed while smiling.
Two fellow policemen arrived and took the man who had been shot. The gunfire stopped for a few more minutes. The surrounding kidnappers surrendered.
Kendall suddenly remembered Grayson. He ran back to their car. When he got a little closer he suddenly woke up. He stopped running and walked slowly. He saw the left companion standing as he looked at him with menacing eyes.
Grayson stood up slowly. He could not believe what he witnessed. His muscles trembled, not out of fear but out of sheer shock. He stared at the approaching maiden. His hair was disheveled, his face was sweaty, he had hard eyes and he was carrying a gun in his right hand. It stopped about three meters from where he was standing and silently stared at him.
He did not want to believe what he saw. Hopefully he just fell asleep on the trip and it was all just a dream. He wanted to pinch himself to wake up. Her eyes widened. Her face is flushed. His jaws clenched. The tendons in his neck were protruding. His hands were numb as he looked at a woman he seemed to have only just met.
He had seen other people fighting earlier. This is not Hailey. This was not the cheerful and tender woman he was with. Hailey's man will not be able to shoot ... Another person is in front of her now.
"W-who are you?"
Kendall didn't answer. She just remained standing while staring at the man.
"Who are you?!"
Kendall still didn't answer. Quietly welcomed all the anger and judgment from Grayson's stares. He has no intention of explaining. He had no intention of answering the questioning face. It's all over. His life is back to normal. He had already saved the man. His mission is over and his role in its life is over. For the last time he just wanted to stare at its face and baunin as a precious memory of his mission.
"Who are you?!"
He stared at Grayson even more. He gave it a reaction while holding the gun as if to say 'Grayson this is my real self.'
"WHO ARE YOU? !!!!!"
She held back the tears as she looked at the tendons in the man's neck and the weep at his angry face. His chest was broken but he could do nothing but admit that he had hurt someone.
He lost his gaze on Grayson when a car pulled up in front of him. Chief Spencer and Noah came down here. Smiling they approached him. He faced the two approaching colleagues. They saluted him and shook his hand.
"Good job Inspector Kendall Whitlock. I'm truly proud of you," the chief greeted with a smile.
Grayson's eyes widened at what he heard. The trembling of his muscles intensified. He also looked at Noah. It was as if his head would explode and his chest would explode in all those who witnessed it. He wanted to chase the woman to ask for an explanation but he could not move his legs. Other policemen approached him and greeted his condition.
Kendall walked away. He let his fellow police officers take care of Grayson. He got into another car. And from the moment he disappeared from their sharp gaze he never looked at the stunned man again.
