Chapter 44: Chapter 44
I looked at myself in the mirror and wondered about the conversation I had with Diego. All during our meal I tried hard to avoid his subject on taking me to Spain. I knew I couldn't see myself traveling with him not after I knew about his crossing the border. I looked once again in the mirror adjusted my hair and nodded in agreement on my look. I was wearing the items I had bought earlier and I was glad my outfit fit nicely. I stepped out of my room and headed down the hallway. I hadn't realized Diego's room was in the same hallway as I was, he walked out the door as soon as I was out. "Heading down?" he asked. "Yes, though we're meeting up at the bar for a drink before we leave," I told him. "Mind if I join you guys?" His voice was calm now, didn't seem to mention anything about Spain, honestly I didn't want to stir up the idea. After the drinks, we headed out to the Cowboy’s Stadium. Diego had hired a limousine service to take us there. We were all dolled up. Diego made sure to sit beside me and ever so often he made sure that we touched. I tried to stop the feelings away but he was getting inside my skin once again. Was this what he intended all along? The ride didn't last long and I was glad. Once inside the stadium, I was overwhelmed knowing I was standing on the football field the Dallas Cowboys practiced and played. I looked around to see many people wearing Cowboy Dallas jerseys and many with cowboy t-shirts. We of course were dressed differently. I had wished to have worn something similar, but we didn’t know what to expect. The excitement of being there made Patty and Sara yell to team members. I on the other hand remained silent. I didn't want to deal with any more men for the time being and I glanced at Diego. He was a handful as it was. “Fio over here.” It was Patty she had a player already in hand. “Diego do you mind taking a picture of us.” She asked him. Diego took Patty’s phone and I stood beside the player. Of course, I was extremely short for the player. “Do you need a box?” he said. “I guess some players get hit on the head a lot,” I said to him. “Hey you might be short but you're spunky.” He said and he began to laugh. “You all right.” He continued smiling. I stood next to him and before I knew he grabbed me by the waist and held me to his side. Patty began to laugh and Diego took the picture. The player put me down and I couldn’t help but try as I might push him. He just continued to laugh. Other players saw the commotion and decided to join in on the fun. Of course, this allowed us to get an extra tour inside their lockers. Unfortunately, our evening came to an end and I was pleased that Diego didn't seem upset with too many men, especially football players. It was odd that he too joined in on the fun as much as he could. Of course, fun things never waver, it ended as quickly as it began and we had to head back home. The limo that brought us didn't take us back to the hotel as we thought but it headed in another direction. I didn’t take Diego seriously until I noticed the signs above indicating the airport. “Where are we heading?” Sara asked Diego. “To the airport, you and patty will be taking a plane back to Laredo.” He said. “Fio and I are taking a trip.” “You are?” Patty and Sara said in unison. “I am,” I said looking towards him. “Yes, Fio we had already talked about it remember.” “I thought you were kidding.” I said to him. “Fio when have I ever kidded.” I thought back and he was right Diego didn’t kid around at least from what I had known about him. “So where are you going?” Sara asked. “Fio and I are heading to Spain.” “Don’t you need a passport for that?” Sara had a point. “You’re right I don’t have a passport, I never needed one.’” I added, “You already have one.” He said. I didn’t ask how he had gotten my signature on it. “Wow! Fio you’re heading to Spain.” “Yeah, exactly where in Spain am going to visit?” “Madrid.” Diego said. “We are going to Madrid!” “Wow Fio you are going to Madrid, they say it’s lovely there.” Sara added. “Lucky you.” She said. Yeah lucky me and I was heading there with Diego. Somehow I didn’t feel that it was going to be something great. I felt like something else was brewing under Diego’s skin. I just couldn’t put my finger on it.
We all four headed to departing sections. Diego and I went to see the girls off, their plane was earlier than ours. I watched as my friends began to board. I had wished to go with them, but I knew I couldn’t leave my truck behind. “Diego I need my truck keys,” I said to him. “No Fio.” “Why not?” “Because I know what you are thinking, you want to get your keys and leave me here.” He said. Oh! Shit that was exactly what I was thinking. Besides, you don’t have any money or cell phone to get back home. “What do you mean I have money and my credit cards.” “Check Fio.” I checked my bag and saw that my wallet was missing.” “Where…” “Don’t worry I have them.” I felt in my pocket but I did have my phone. “You forgot this, I’ll just call Melba she can send me the cash and I can board another plane to Laredo, get my spare keys and fly back to get my truck. Diego just smiled. “Check your phone card Fio.” I opened the back of my phone and saw that my card was missing. “Diego why are you doing this to me.” “Because Fio we need this. You will never want to be apart from me ever again.” “Until you leave Diego.” “Fio I haven’t left yet and the truth is I might not want to leave.” “That’s not what I wanted to hear.” “I know that is why I hadn’t wanted to say it.” “Then why did you.” “Because I think you needed to hear it.” Did I need to hear it? I wanted Diego gone so that I wouldn’t think about him anymore. I wanted Diego to be farther away from the border and not try a crazy stunt like he was doing already. I didn’t want Diego to be close to me because I knew I was falling in love with him. I just never wanted him to know. Right then I had finally admitted it to myself. I was falling in love with him and I was scared. We walked to our terminal and I sat down on a chair and thought about what I had just told myself. I didn’t want to look at Diego, because I was afraid that it would come out. “I’ll be right back Fio do you need anything.” “No” I whispered back. “Hey it’s going to be okay, you will learn to love it. I promise you.” He said. He caressed my cheek with his hand and before he pulled it away I held it to me. I looked at him and thought was I ready for this again. I saw Diego he was something I would have never gone out with. Roger had said that I didn’t see him for what he was. It was like he had me under a spell. Was Roger right? I looked up to see Diego’s hazel eyes they showed another world I wasn’t sure I was ready for. He was beautiful like an angel but I still had to wonder what kind. I didn’t see so much of Will Turner in it anymore, he was different somehow more powerful than the character now. He was Diego Boltarez the man who wanted me to submit to him and right there and then I was going to allow myself to be submitted.
