Chapter 31: Chapter 31

Melba was looking at me and when I lifted my head. I saw Sara, Patty, and Zulema all looking as well. I just turned around and started walking back home. I didn’t know what to think about my party. At that moment a soft breeze swept over me and I stopped walking. I looked up to see the moon shining brightly and I knew then that Diego was right, I had chosen him and somehow I needed him to know too. I turned around and ran back. I didn’t know if I would find him there. I didn’t know where he was and where to look for him. I entered back into the party zone. The music was still going and people were still dancing. Fred saw me and came back to me. I placed my hand out to him. “Sorry, Fred but Diego is right. I do belong to him. I am telling you right now I don’t want to lead you on. I just want us to be friends and neighbors depend on each other if one has to go out of town you know lookout for my place and shit like that. Diego moves me like no one else and just right now I can only do one guy.” I said. I don’t know how that sounded but I guess he didn’t like what I said. “I think you are making a mistake.” He said. “No Fred, I’ve made hundreds. I think at twenty-five years of age. I am allowed to make a mistake here and there. Right now I have to do something so please excuse me.” I didn’t wait for him to respond. I ran up the stairs up to the D.J. I wanted so desperately to be with Diego. I told him to play another song for me. The D.J. didn’t think twice he did just what I said. I took the microphone and then spoke. “Les quiero dar las gracias por ver venido a mi fiesta pero yo pienso que esta sera la ultima cancione de la noche.” “I would like to thank my wonderful friends for helping me put on this great birthday bash. I will never forget you guys for doing this for me. I love you guys. The girls just cheered. I saw that they still held my birthday presents. For Mr. Martinez who made all these events bright full and beautiful and I promise to help with the clean-up tomorrow. “Don’t worry, I have people for that.” He yelled. I laughed. “Then that’s settle.” I just wanted to end this party right and not with drama. I want to sing one last song and then end this party if that is okay with you?” Everyone yelled. Oh! And let’s thank the D.J. for providing the great music for the evening.” Everyone clapped. The D. J. bowed. He then started playing the song that I had requested. It was an Elida Reyna song. “Luna Llena-Full Moon.” I wasn’t afraid anymore and I just had this confidence that shook me. I knew I wasn’t as drunk as I was earlier. I was somewhat myself. I sang with all the confidence I had and never knew. I looked up at the moon and sang to it because after all, I was asking her to find my lost love in the song. I was at the end of it and looked around the crowd and saw many swaying and dancing slowly. At the far end of the pool near the waterfall. I saw him standing there looking at me. I knew the decision I had made was a good one. I couldn’t wait to begin our commitment. Diego ended walking with me home. The girls had already gone up, with presents in hand. I was glad that nothing bad had happened at the party. When we reached my door it was already three o’clock in the morning. The music could still be heard but just barely. Mr. Martinez was already picking up and from what Melba said her chef friend had already left around one o’clock in the morning. I looked up at my door and wished that I would be spending it with Diego but I knew that couldn’t happen. True to their word, the girls were camping out in my home. I really couldn’t invite Diego in there and have them hear us having fucking awesome sex especially since I wasn’t that quiet when I came. I smiled just thinking about it. “What’s so funny?” Diego asked me. “Nothing, just wish we could spend the rest of the morning together.” I said. He pulled me close to him. “Me too, you don’t know how hard I’ve been all night. Just hearing you sing up there. God Fio you are so much more. I knew you were the moment I felt you.” I didn’t know what to say to that. I just hugged him. We kissed for a long time and he held me. This was a side of Diego I didn’t know. This was very different. He didn’t try to get me under the stairs to fuck me. He just held me. He kissed me once more and opened the door for me. He waited till I was inside my home and just as I was about to close the door. “Fio, make time for me tomorrow. I’d like to spend the entire day with you. Erick went home and won’t be back till Monday. So I have time to spend it with you. Maybe then we could talk.” I just nodded and smiled. I closed the door for a while but I knew I would soon be opening a new one. I placed my back to the door and allowed everything to sink in until I replayed the last part of the conversation that Diego and I had just had a couple of minutes ago. I opened the door quickly. “Diego I called out.” I saw that he wasn’t far to hear me. “Fio are you okay.” “Yes, but you just said that Erick left. That means that you’re alone in your home.” I said. He had a smile on his face. “I was wondering when you would figure that out.” I opened my door and locked the bottom lock and ran down the stairs and into his waiting arms.
