Chapter 33: Chapter 33

Amina

"You don't have to worry, I'm perfectly fine" with her low voice, I knew she's just saying in order not to make me worried. However, I know my mama, she missed me but doesn't want to say.

I said the thing my gut tells me. "I know you missed me like I do. And for hajiya and kaltume, I know they're still on their old habit. Mama, walla-" My words trailed off with her immediate answer.

"Have I not warned you on talking back to your elders? They're your family. Like I said I'm fine. You just focus on your job and keep my word of wisdom in your heart. Always"

Family?

Which family. When all they have is resentment in their hearts. I wanted to say it aloud but chose not to. Saying it might anger mama.

I was out of the trance when I heard her last statement. "....In your husband's house"  Did I hear wrong or she actually said it.

"What did you say mama?" I asked to make sure of what I heard her utter.

"I said is this how you're going to behave in your husband's house with your troubles." For an known reason I found her words funny.

A chuckle escaped my lips as I adjust the sitting position of the phone on my ear. "Which husband mama? Your daughter is not yet married and you're talking about the troubles I will make in my husband's house" another fit of chuckle left my lips and that was due to my own words.

"Hmm..." was all she said. "Its not like you're going to stay single forever. My prayer is to witness your marriage one day" A voice salaming revamped through the phone.

"Toh Mimi talk to you later. I have a guest" without waiting for my answer, the call got discontinued. I was left staring at the phone. Talking of guest, I know it must be yawo larai. My mom doesn't mingle with a lot of people. Yawo larai Is her closest among the rest.

I couldn't help but thought about her words. To be sincere, I don't have any marriage in my mind. Besides, I don't have any boyfriend to even think about marriage. "You must be crazy!" I found myself uttering when a thought graced through my head. I can't believe I'm imagining Nabil as my boyfriend. Something must be wrong with my head. Serious one. A groan left my lips again and I did the best thing I know will drift the thoughts away. Shower.

~~

It was around eight thirty five pm when I received a text from Nabil that we should meet. It may be he got some few clues. Without wasting anymore time, I grabbed my hijab and aligted a way. I almost collied with Ahmad on the hallway. He was quick to steady himself from clashing with my body. He knew not to touch someone who is not his muharem. But you held Nabil's hand and he held yours. You didn't stop him.

"Sorry sir" I said finally coming back to my senses.

"Where are you going like this that you almost pushed your boss" the way he said boss made a small laugher out of my lips. I noticed his grim expression on me and my smile immediately died down.

"Sorry sir" I said again composing myself. I was about to turn when he halted me by latching his right food forward. My eyes went to the foot back to his face which was held in a smirk. "You didn't answer my question"

What was I to say? Is this man okay? Just because he's my boss then I will tell him where I go or what I do. "Its nothing sir. I'm just heading to the kitchen. I'm thirsty" What a good lie Amina! He squinted his eyes like he doesn't believe me before he form his lips in a thin line.

"When you're done with the drinking or whatever, meet me at my study room" he ushered. My brows slightly furrow. What does he want me to do in his room.

"Sir I don't think it's appropriate for me to enter your room" I answered straight out. And the next thing I heard was his light chuckle.

"Do you not know the meaning of Study room or are you pretending not to. Because last time I checked, they are two different things"

"No sir, I didn't know you have an office at home. Abida told me about your working desk in your room. So I thought that's your study room" I almost roll my eyes at his grim expression. He muttered something under his breath which I'm not able to catch

"The study room is across my room or you can ask the blabber mouth"

If I'm not mistaken, I would've said he was pissed but I have other things to do than examine his expression.

"Okay sir" I said walking away. I don't know if he's still standing or he has left. Nabil must be weary tired of waiting for me. The LCD was on, yet no one was present in the living room. I didn't waste time to dwell on that as I made my way outside. I spotted him at our usual spot. So weird of me to call the lounge our usual spot.

"Hey" I began standing behind him. He didn't attempt to turn or get starlted by my action. Only continue pressing his phone. My brows creased in question. I thought the stunt will get a reaction from him like it did last time.

"Nabil" I called taking my seat. His eyes were still glued to his phone screen. God knows what he was doing. I waited for him to finish pressing. Yet, nothing came only a pile of silence rising with each passing second.

Realizing he isn't going to speak up, I decided to. "You called me here and now you're being quite"

He still didn't say anything only set his phone beside him. A small hiss made its way out of my mouth. I might not know who the real Nabil is,  One time he's all talkative and one time he acts as if we're strangers. I don't exactly know what to label him as.

"If you're not ready to speak up then I will leave. I have other things to do"  I was on the verge of getting pissed off. If I say his silence doesn't annoy or bother me then I would be lying.

"Will you support me?" Came his unexpected words. My head abruptly snapped towards him.
