Chapter 216: Chapter 216

Chapter 216 Family Dinner

Martin entered the door and set foot inside the study. The gray-haired old man had his eyes on a newspaper, and although he was old, he did not ordinary.

He was Martin's grandfather, Parker James.

Perhaps because of his blood, Martin had an inexplicable sense of intimacy when he met his grandfather.

"Martin, have a seat." Parker motioned his hand.

"No, grandfather. If you have anything to say, just say it." Martin stood firm, not humble.

After hearing his words, Parker, who was reading the newspaper, couldn't help but put down his newspaper and look up at him.

When Parker saw Martin, his eyes flashed with surprise.

With most of Parker's life spent in the sea of commerce, he experienced numerous ups and downs that his pair of eyes forgot the natural insight to the world and human feelings.

The last time he met Martin was a few years ago when they went to borrow money from them.

Martin at the time appeared inferior, timid and weak.

But when he saw Martin, he felt that the Martin now was like a sharp blade – a strong and confident young man that even when he stood before his grandfather, he wouldn't bow down.

Among his grandchildren, only Renee and Rachel were precious to him as they made him proud.

"Martin, I haven't seen you in years. You've changed a lot." Parker was still surprised.

"And as with age, change is only natural." Martin calmly told him.

Parker smiled. "That's not necessarily the case all the time. Some people age, but still lack interest, such as your second uncle's youngest son, Mick. Even when he's come of age, all he knows was to eat, drink and play – his lifetime is doomed with the lack of interest."

"Grandfather, you called me, but that's not what I expected you to talk about." Martin remained calm.

"Then, I must say, you are also my grandson, whatever grievances were made between your father and I should not involve you. I want you to recognize your ancestry and move your father's remains back to the James family." Parker said.

"No problem." Martin nodded.

Martin had heard his mother say that his father's last wish before he died was that one day, he would be placed in their family's hall.

Maybe that's why his mother persuaded Martin to go back this time.

So, he agreed directly.

When Martin agreed without turning down his request, there was a glimmer of surprise in Parker's eyes because he really thought Martin would say no.

Immediately after, his face showed a smile. After all, he was 80 years old, with this age, he thought that compared to the happiness of the future generation, why should grievances be counted?

"Well, during the family dinner later, I'll announce the news in public. You go down with your cousins and get familiar with them." Parker said.

When Martin got down, he casually found a place to sit down and didn't go to chat with his cousins.

It's not that Martin didn't want to go because even if he went for a chat, they're bound to reject him.

After all, he was considered a bastard even if he was to return to the family. Besides, they would wonder why he was still there.

Renee might have seen Martin sitting alone at a corner. Afraid that Martin would feel too lonely, she ran over to chat with Martin him.

Not long after Martin went downstairs, the elders followed closely behind.

"The family dinner was about to begin, and the gentlemen should be ready to take their seats." The housekeeper said.

The banquet was placed in the living room, and Parker naturally sat in the main seat.

The closest person to him was, of course, Martin's uncles, followed by the other elders, then the younger generation.

The seats of the younger generation displayed a division between those who were accepted and those who were not.

Martin was, of course, assigned to sit with the other sidelines, but Renee naturally pulled him to sit next to her.

The dinner's nature was very rich. The first to be served were the appetizers, then the main dish.

After three tours of wine. Then, Parker put his cutleries down.

The whole table instantly fell quiet as they all knew that the old man was going to speak.

"Let's talk about the company first. Rachel has done well this year. Since he became the Deputy General Manager, the group business growth became good. I must say, you are much better than your father. He managed the group for more than a decade, but the company did not grow. From the company's situation which I left behind, you have been involved in the management group for the past two years, and the increase is obvious." Parker said.

"Thank you, grandpa, for complimenting me!" Rachel got up with a smile on his face and bowed.

Although the remark also criticized his father, the man was smiling from ear to ear. Because Rachel was his son, he was, of course, happy to have such a talented son.

"Rachel's a great kid."

"Yes, with Rachel in the management group, we're bound to be stronger in the future!"

The elders on the table also opened their mouths to praise him.

"By the way, Rachel, you're in charge for the recent urban village renovation project, right? How's the project going?" The old man asked.

"Grandpa, be rest assured, everything's going well." Rachel replied.

Parker nodded and then looked at Renee. "Renee, how's your company doing?"

"Grandpa, the project is still under development, but it won't be long before the software is made, and I believe it will work." Renee got up and answered.

As soon as Renee's voice dropped, Rachel got up.

"Renee, I must say, your project is absolutely not going to be successful. Now Amazon and eBay have the online shopping market divided. These years, many companies have tried to share a portion of this cake, but who among them has succeeded? If you go on, then it's going to be a complete waste of the family's money. It's better to go back to the family and help us run the business." Rachel said coldly.

Parker invested a total of $50 million for Renee's start-up business. Surely, it didn't make Rachel very happy as, after all, the money was all taken out of the James Group.

James Group was powerful that even at a city level, Horace's Mars Group couldn't match them, but 50 million dollars was still definitely a big sum of money.

"Rachel, if you feel like you don't succeed, it's too early for you to come to a conclusion." Renee said coldly.

Rachel snorted coldly. "Well, let's wait and see. When you fail, I'll see to it that I'll be there when you tell grandpa when you account the James family."

"Don't argue. Sit down." Parker waved his hand.

Rachel and Renee heard it and they got back to their seats.

"Renee has been the best and brightest in the family since she was a little girl, so I'm willing to give her the money to start a business. I'd worry about it later." Parker said slowly.

"Thank you for trusting me, grandpa." Renee smiled sincerely.

But Renee was also feeling the pressure even more. She can only succeed now and have no time for failing. If she failed, she's afraid she cannot lift her head in front of the whole family again out of humiliation.

But starting a business was always risky.

"Next, I have one more thing to announce." Parker started. "I announce that Martin will return to us, and from today onwards, he will be acknowledged as my grandson." He said.

The news didn't surprise everyone much, because everyone had guessed it more or less before.

"Martin, I'll compensate you for all these years, and this time you'll stay at JY City. I'll arrange for your second uncle and Rachel to put you in a supervisor position at the company." Parker continued.

Then, Parker looked at Rachel and said, "Rachel, when Martin takes over the company, you're obliged to teach him everything as his cousin."

"Yes, grandpa." Rachel got up. "I'm going to do it."

Although Rachel did not want to, but the old man told him, so, of course, he would agree. He thought that once Martin settled at the company, he must give him a hard time there.

"Besides that, Martin, I'll give you another five million dollars, so you can buy a car or anything you like." Parker added while taking out a card.

The housekeeper next to him hurriedly picked up the card and delivered it to Martin with both hands.

"Damn, that cheap boy." Mick muttered.

The siblings Mick and Rachel both looked a little upset, but it was their grandfather's decision, and they certainly wouldn't dare say anything offensive head-on.

"Master Martin, here is a card."

The housekeeper handed the card to him.
