Ding dong, the bell rang severally making Luke turn over wondering who could it be. He picked his shirt and worn it looking at a sleeping Audrey. He covered her with a quilt and walked to open the door.

" Good morning son-in-law. Sorry to wake you. Audrey has sessions today and we'll be going back to Ukraine" reminded Patty as Luke opened the door wide for her to come in. He walked lazily to call room service then to the bathroom.

Patty sat by the bed smiling at her sleeping face. She stroke her hair taking a good view of her facial features which looked like Rogers.

" You'll get better Audrey. Your dad was a strong man. There's no doubt you took after him. You've to accept your condition. It's not Luke's fault, it's not your fault. Stop punishing him. I'm to blame. I'm here now. I'll make it up to you. I guess life is giving me a chance to do that in a weird way which I'll gladly oblige " she muffled pecking her. She kissed her forehead then tapped her to wake up.

" Good morning Mom. Is it time yet? She asked looking around searching for a certain someone. Patty noticed her wandering eyes.

" He's in the bathroom. Here, let me help you" she said sitting down wrapping her hair in a ponytail

" I need to brush my teeth. You can't carry me, mom. My wheelchair isn't here" she said scornfully

" Then let's put that session to practice. You can do it"

" What? I've tried to move it several times but it's not working. I don't want to fall on my butt. Forget it" she snapped falling on the bed.

" Wake me when luke is out or fetch my wheelchair. " She stated nonchalantly closing her eyes. Patty wasn't offended. She slept by her side holding her.

" Everything will be fine Audrey. Don't close your heart to us"

" I'm tired Mom. I'm tired. I can't stand up from my bed without assistance. I can't use the restroom without assistance. I can't do anything by myself" she sobbed holding her

" Ssh. Ssh. I'm here. I'll gladly do those things for you. I know it's not permanent as long as you can feel it. The rod pierced it pretty hard. Once it's healed, you will be able to move. You've to believe in Lucas. Trust him. He's going through a lot emotionally. Can you do that? She asked as Audrey sniffled

" I don't know. " She said truthfully. Luke entered the room.

" We have a session with the physiotherapist and the doctor as well. You need to bath " he stated helping her up

" Mom will do it. The wheelchair is supposed to be here. I can't keep pestering you to carry me every time. " She exclaimed holding him as he lifted her up

" I'm not complaining. You might fall from the wheelchair and complicate things. I'm not taking that risk" he trailed to the bathroom whilst Patty picked clothes for her before catching up with them

" You need anything, you call me okay? He urged as she nodded

Patty entered the bathroom, brushed her teeth, assisted her in bathing and the restroom as she beckoned her to leave her to it. She baths herself while she tried moving her legs but couldn't.

" It's the first step, Audrey. You're doing good" she commented sending for Luke: who arrived and carried her to the dining table. Both Luke and Patty picked food for her that she yelled at them

' I'm not a cripple. I've handed. I can feed myself" she slammed the cutlery on the table in anger

" Perhaps but you behave like one. We'll stop treating you like one if you start behaving like a normal human being " retorted luke picking food for her

" I'm not hungry. " She started dropping her cutlery pushing the plate away. Luke grit his teeth

" I didn't mean it, Audrey. You have to eat. Fine, you can eat yourself. " He coaxed as she glared at him. Patty pushed the bowl of cereal to her urging her to eat which surprised Audrey. Why does her Mom always take his side?

She had no choice but to pick the cutlery and started eating angrily.

They resumed her session and went to see the doctor who said she can return to Ukraine.

Audrey was accompanied by her Mom as Luke was getting the plane ready for her comfort. Genevieve gave her a fruitcake sitting close to her.

" Here. " She handed her a milkshake

" Thanks" she uttered sipping it

" Are you okay Audrey? She asked as Audrey rolled her eyes. It's the first time she's sitting close to her since their duel at the party. It's a pity party she sneered

" I know what you're passing through. I went through it once. Sir Lucas made sure my arm wasn't amputated. I lost all hope just like you. I know you're mad at the world but Lucas is one person that doesn't give up on people that he loves. He may not love me as he does you but he treats me like family. Believe in him like I did and he won't disappoint you. Take my words for it " she advises handing her another fruitcake which Audrey took shoving it into her mouth.

" What happened to you is nothing compared to this. He couldn't accept my past, why would he accept a cripple? She pondered glaring at her stupidity. Love has blinded her she concluded

" Don't be quick to judge. We were on a mission and were ambushed on the way. Gunshots were everywhere, our squad was dying. Luke stood his ground as we were decreasing. He fired a sniper at the chopper saving us. He was informed a bomb exploded on my hand. I gave up hope. I thought it was the end of my career. He took me to the best doctors threatening them of course" she chuckled as the image envisaged in her mind.

" After two to three years of trying. I could move my hand. It healed .he accepted me into his squad when I returned promoting me. Give him the chance to show you how wonderful he is. I'm sure he'll treat you better" she added standing up

"Two years? And if I don't recover from this? She asked looking in his direction

" You will. If sir Preston could live an extra two years despite his condition, you'll get better Audrey and I assure you, Sir Lucas will accept you. You captured his heart. Stop being a bitch " she exclaimed walking away making Audrey scoff.

Patty sat beside her later on.

" Are you hungry? Do you need anything? She asked lovingly cupping her cheeks

" No. I'm good. Is everything ready? She inquired as Patty kissed her forehead.

" You're one lucky girl Audrey. Just like your Dad. Luke is making some adjustments. He'll be done soon. " She stated

" When we get to Ukraine I wonder what will become of me. Mom, will you like to live in my penthouse or Luke's house? She asked as her mom held her hands

" I'm living in your penthouse. Are you going with Luke.? Then I'm coming with you"

" Well, okay. I can nag both of you then" she giggled as Patty hugged her

" I'll go wherever you go Audrey. Did you get your dad's letter? He made me vow to give it to you. I'm sorry I chickened out. I'll find them for you. I hope Roger can forgive me" she sniffled

" Mom, I don't blame you believe me. Having fallen in love myself I know how you feel. About the notes, I have them and I've read them and I love them. " She started holding her tight

" Thank you, Audrey. Thank you for not giving up on me. Thank you for being a wonderful daughter. I love you sweetheart" she whimpered regretfully.

The girl she thought wasn't worth her time saved her from losing her mind. She'll forever be grateful to her.

" I love you too mom " she muttered. Luke walked in on their little show of affection

" It's ready. Let's go home Audrey" he stated picking her up. She wrapped her hands around his neck staring at him. More like admiring him. She was a jerk to him the other night.

" Penny for your thought? He asked noticing her intense gaze. She blushed to lower her head resting it on his shoulder.

" Why am I living with you again? She asked

' because the specialist is trying to keep a low profile. You can decide to go home when you get better " he said putting her down. Putting her seatbelt on

" Live with you again? Not like we're a couple"

" Check again. " He blurted out as she gave it a rest but she wants to get better for him.

" Everyone is waiting for us at home. So be prepared for the surprise" he announced as she giggled

" That sounds like granny alright. She's like a sweet queen mother. " She pouts in praise

" Yep. " He sighs glad her mood has brightened

" I'm equal to the task. " She muttered resting on his shoulder fiddling with his necktie while he looked at her tenderly. She raised her head to look at him.

" You seem happy," he asked softly

" There's no place like home Luke" she stated touching his lower lips

" I can give you that and more. I want to be your home Audrey. If you'll let me' he mumbled as she smiled still touching his lips

" Let's hope I get better. I can't do anything like this. Handicapped! She said angrily removing her hands from his lips

" That's not true. It doesn't change the way I feel about you. It doesn't matter to me as long as you're alive. " He said truthfully raising her chin to look at him

" Hmmm" she hummed leaning on his chest.

He held her resting his head on the chair rest. He knows with time she'll come around.

It was already dusk by the time they arrived in Ukraine.
