Chapter 83: Chapter 83

Valeria and Shane stood outside the operating room, waiting for Fred's surgery to be over with. They didn't leave when the doctor asked them to.

Shane walked to Valeria, who was looking so tense and nervous, and she took her hand.

"Let's sit and wait, Val." She said.

"N n no, I'll wait here...I mean, I'm fine." Valeria said. Shane sighed.

"Let's sit." She said, and she pulled Valeria with her. They both went to sit on a chair outside the operating room.

"He'll be fine." Shantel said.

Valeria buried her face in her palms and she began sobbing quietly.

"Please God, don't let anything happen to my little boy, he's all I've got. Please lord, protect him for me," She prayed in tears.

Shane was patting her back in a comforting manner, at the same time, saying some words of encouragement to her.

The door to the operating room opened, Shane and Valeria hurriedly stood up, and they rushed to the doctor.

"Doctor, how's my son?" Valeria asked, impatient to know the answer.

The doctor may have heaved a deep breath, she bowed down her head with a sad look on her face.

Shane and Valeria shared a worried look.

"H how's my son doctor, h he's okay right, tell me Fred is fine." Valeria said, almost yelling this time.

Doctor May raised her head up, and a huge smile spread across her lips.

"The surgery was a success, your son is fine," She uttered with a bright smile.

Shane and Valeria couldn't stop themselves from screaming in excitement, and Valeria immediately hugged the doctor.

"Thank you so much doctor, thank you so much." She said in tears.

"It's alright." Doctor May smiled.

Valeria got a grip of herself and she pulled out of the hug.

"I'm so sorry." She apologized.

"I..i...i..just got carried away."

"It's alright miss, you do not have to apologize, if I were to be in your shoes, I would have done the same." She said.

"Fred will be taken to his ward. He's asleep now, due to the anesthetic we gave him, but he'll be awake in a couple of hours."

"Alright doctor, thank you." Shane said. Doctor May nodded, then she left.

" Yes!" Valeria squealed as she hugged Shane tightly.

"See, I told you he'd be fine. I told you nothing bad would happen to him, our boy is a fighter, just like his mama." Shane said, and Valeria couldn't stop her tears from falling.

"Thank you so much for everything, Thank you for being there for me Shane, thank you." Valeria said in tears.

Shane rolled her eyes, she'd told Valeria countless times to stop saying thank you to her.

"Shut up." Shane scolded, and they both laughed.

Valeria and Shane both sat on a chair beside Fred's bed. Fred was sleeping so soundly, and he looked so peaceful in his sleep.

"I just can't wait for you to wake up so I can talk to you," Valeria said. Shantel chuckled.

"He'll be awake soon and then you two can talk as much as you want," Shane said.

"You're right," Valeria replied.

Shane looked at Valeria for sometime and it suddenly crossed her mind to ask Valeria the question she'd been wanting to ask her. She would have asked her before but that wasn't the right time, but now that things are fine, she's going to ask.

"Valeria," Shane called, and Valeria turned to face her.

"There's something I want to ask you. I would have asked you before but that wasn't the right time," Shane said.

Valeria swallowed nothing, she just knew what Shane was about to ask her, but she wasn't ready to tell her the truth.

"Where did you get the money for Fred's surgery, and please Valeria, don't lie to me, I want the whole truth," Shane stated, staring intensely at Valeria.

"Oh no, I really can't tell Shane the truth, she'll be so disappointed in me." Valeria thought.

"Come on Val, I'm waiting," Shane said. Valeria sighed.

"I got the money from Noah."

"What!!" Shane half yelled.

"Are you crazy!! I mean, what happened?"

"Well, i know I refused him the first time, but I went back and told him that I'd do it. Also, I asked him for an advance payment and he gave it to me." Valeria lied. Shantel frowned.

"Just like that?" She asked.

"Just like that," Valeria replied.

"So you're telling me that he just gave you the money without asking for anything in return, he didn't even ask what you needed the money for?"

"Well, he did ask, but I told him that it was none of his business," Valeria said. Shane sighed.

She looked at Valeria for sometime, and Valeria was beginning to feel very uncomfortable.

She didn't like the fact that she had to lie to Shane, but she had no choice. Shane must never find out the real truth.

"Okay Val, I just hope you ain't lying to me," Shane said, and Valeria laughed nervously.

"Of course not, and besides, why would I even want to lie to you, Shane?"

"Better," Shane said, and they both burst into laughter.

Valeria was still laughing together with Shane when her phone suddenly rang.

She stylishly stared at her phone screen and she saw it was Noah.

"Oh my goodness!" She mumbled under her breath.

"Who's calling you?" Shane asked and Valeria's heart skipped a bit.

She turned to Shane and she smiled.

"It's no one, it's just a random stalker that's been bothering me." Valeria lied.

Shane heaved and she decided to let it go. She knew Valeria was lying to her but she didn't want to force the issue had Valeria just had a good reason for lying.

Valeria's phone continued ringing and she couldn't pick up in the presence of Shane, neither could she excuse herself.

She sighed and she ended the call. She knew Noah would think she'd scammed him because of this.

"I'll just call him back later," She thought.
