Chapter 83: Chapter 83
Chapter 83 Lanny's luck comes to an end
David clutched his phone tightly in his hand. He was fuming, talking incoherently as he vented his anger. And Lanny, who was on the other end of the line, was not having any of it. Her mind was set.
Exasperated, Lanny finally screamed into the phone, "I've told you a thousand times! I'm not coming back! Either you help me with this, or you don't!"
Then, without giving David a chance to answer, she angrily hit the red icon and hung up.
This infuriated David. He stomped his feet but that did nothing to appease the anxiety that had already formed a knot in his stomach.
He paced back and forth in the house. When he grew tired, he took a seat on the sofa and picked up a newspaper. Maybe reading the news would calm him down, he thought. As he ran his eyes over the articles in the newspaper, his mind went back to Mary and Lanny. Frustrated, he let out a grunt and punched the throw-away pillows.
He should have been in Mary's arms, but now, he was forced to wait for the police to question him. They were on their way to speak to him and get a statement.
That bitch Lanny had gone too far this time. What the fuck was she thinking? She had killed someone. Did she think the human world was a place where she could do whatever she wanted?
If she hadn't been pregnant, David wouldn't have agreed to cover for her. It was unfortunate that she was carrying his child. It was more the responsibility to the child than to the mother that he agreed.
And the Whites, they had always been indulgent of Lanny's caprices. Somehow, they had him persuade Lanny to come back, saying that they wanted to "make things right".
What was wrong with them? Did they all lose a screw somewhere? From the moment he divorced Bella and married Lanny, everything went from bad to horribly wrong. Maybe... just maybe, he probably shouldn't ha-
The doorbell rang, but David was already standing. The steps trudging up to his door silently announced the arrival of the police.
He walked, measuring his steps equally, to the door. He stopped and quickly dusted off an imaginary lint before he grabbed the doorknob and turned it. The policeman in a black, well-ironed uniform, greeted him perfunctorily.
"Hello, Mr. David Johnson? I'm Constable James Ferron. Would you mind if I came in and asked you a few questions?"
David sidestepped and gestured to the inside of the house, "Yes. Please come in."
The constable wiped his feet as he entered the house. His eyes quickly surveyed the interior, as if he was searching for the presence of another person.
Constable Ferron, however, remained standing. He briefly told David that he wanted to talk to Lanny in connection to a case. And whether he knew about her whereabouts.
David, however, quickly got defensive, "Why are you asking about my wife's whereabouts? Is there any evidence that she had anything to do with this? Or is it just because they used to be colleagues? If that's the case, then you should ask about my whereabouts too."
The inexperienced young constable was shocked by David's outburst. But he quickly took over the situation, keeping as curt and as professional as possible.
"An anonymous tipped us that the victim was with Lanny that night," he said in a calm tone as he watched David's reactions.
David's jaw remained set, "Can you be a little more specific?"
"I am sorry, this is an ongoing investigation, and I cannot divulge information at this point. But it is in your wife's interest to talk to us."
The Constable had his little notebook and a pen in his hand. But so far, he had not written anything. He studied David's face with interest. "But I can tell you that the day of the incident we are interested in is the 24th."
Lanny had already told him the date. And he was already aware of the whole debacle. David was hoping that the Constable was dumb enough to be unable to read the look on his face. He slipped his slightly trembling hands into his pockets, hiding them away from the Constable's eyes.
"I just want to confirm that she has an alibi for that night. Someone already went to the company to investigate, she did not take time off that day," the Constable, James replied as his forehead wrinkled into a slight frown.
"Ah well, there you go. She leaves whenever she wants to, I think her other colleagues can attest to that," David explained, "She left LA that morning, but I'm not sure exactly where she went. We're giving each other plenty of space at the moment."
"Please call her now," James ordered.
"Okay." David took out his cell phone and dialed Lanny's new number. Lanny had discarded her first cell phone in case the police tracked her down.
The call quickly connected. David spoke first, not giving Lanny a chance to give herself away while on loudspeaker.
"Hi, Lanny. The police are here looking for you, where are you?"
Lanny stood still, and she held her breath. She thought as fast as she could. The last thing she wanted was the police on her tail. Might as well try to shake them off. "He-Hello. Da-i- C-C-an you hear me-I'm-forest-Hello? Damn-this-he... No sig-here." Then she hung up the phone.
David shrugged. "Sorry, looks like she has a bad signal wherever she is. When I get her back on the phone, I'll let you know."
"I will appreciate it if your wife can cooperate with the police investigation, Mr. Johnson." James turned on his heels, flipped his little notebook closed, and got ready to leave.
David grabbed his arm and lowered his voice, "Listen, my wife is pregnant. And we can't afford to upset her, I don't want the baby to be affected by unnecessary anxiety and stress. Besides, it seems that this case is just an accident. Why not just leave it at that?"
"It's just procedure. Your wife has nothing to worry about if she didn't do anything." James broke free of David's grasp and strode out the door while fixing his headgear.
Back at the police station, James requested access to David's phone records. And soon, his eyes locked in on Lanny's new number. With a few keystrokes on his desktop, he located Lanny's exact location; the City of Santa Barbara. A wry smile appeared on his face, "Gotcha."

Miles away, unaware that her mysterious location had been uncovered, Lanny was lazily lounging on a beach chair in a revealing bikini, her eyes hidden behind large sunglasses, as she enjoyed the afternoon sun.
She had a beautiful figure, around 170 cm tall, with voluptuous and attractive 36E breasts, a slender waist, curvaceous hips held by a pair of long and slender legs. She was a real beauty, and despite being 16 weeks pregnant with a slight bulge in her belly, she knew she could instantly give those men around her an instant erection. She was the envy of women and the object of men's desire. All she had to do was throw a nice compliment to a woman to instantly become their best friend, and bat an eyelash and the men would fold under her charm.
Even with her eyes closed, she sensed the eyes of countless men caressing her, undressing her. And she reveled in their fantasies.
She turned sideways to accentuate her luscious waistline and plump hips for them to feast their eyes on and silently sneered at the occasional whistle from all around her. What a bunch of goats.
She picked up a glass of orange juice, held the straw between her fingers seductively and stuck out her tongue to lick it.
The single men stared at her openly as their erections became visible through their tight and wet swimming suits. The married ones slid her quick glances as they pretended to rub lotion on their wives. The old ones ogled at her, wishing they had one last hurrah with that goddess of a woman. In the distance, a glass crashed on the floor. She smiled. She had that effect on men. She always did.
'If someone takes the initiative to ask me out, maybe I'll give in to a one nightstand. Besides, there's no chance that I'll get pregnant,' Lanny thought to herself as she chuckled to herself.
Suddenly, she smelled the presence of a male werewolf, and not one of a low rank. It was getting stronger and stronger. The corners of Lanny's mouth rose. 'Looks like tonight is going to be an interesting night after all.'
"Miss, may I buy you a drink?" A thick, manly voice came.
Lanny slowly opened her eyes, took off her sunglasses and studied the visitor's face.
The man was stout and muscular, with brown skin that glowed healthily under the sunlight. Lanny liked him right away.
"My pleasure."
She took his hand, got up, and followed him toward the hotel.
Behind them, the group of men sighed, regretting the courage they lacked. They all watched as the beauty was whisked away by the brave man. They felt like cowards. But the married men were relieved she was gone.
The werewolf led Lanny into the hotel room where they got comfortable. They sipped wine and began to kiss passionately.
The man pushed her down on the bed, and he grabbed her hands and lifted them above her head. "Do you want to try something fun?" He whispered into Lanny's ear.
"Oh, you bad boy, I like where you are going." Lanny smiled crookedly as her skin tingled with excitement.
The "bad boy" pulled a pair of handcuffs from the nightstand and secured her hands to the bed.
"Looks like you were getting ready for this," Lanny whispered seductively as she rubbed against him. "Do you want to blindfold me too?" She twisted and turned on the bed, assuming various positions to instigate him.
But he did nothing. Instead, he got up, collected himself and neatened his clothes. Then, he went to the bathroom and came back with a bathrobe that he used to cover Lanny's body.
"What are you doing?" Lanny frowned in confusion.
"Sorry, my dear. But Alpha Edward wants to see you. Can't have you naked like a newborn now, can we?" the man replied drily.
