Chapter 76: Chapter 76

Chapter 76 DNA Results

Hearing that David had suddenly returned, Lanny glanced at Bob and hurriedly asked him to hide inside the room. Although she planned to ditch him eventually, she did not want her husband to misunderstand that she was having an affair with someone like Bob.

"Why are you suddenly back?" Lanny asked while keeping David out of the house.

"I forgot my briefcase," David answered, then started banging the door. "Why is it locked? Did you block the door?"

"N-no! Just wait there! I'll get your briefcase for you."

Lanny panicked, frantically searching for David's briefcase. Luckily, she quickly found it beside the dining chair where he sat during breakfast.

As soon as she picked up the briefcase and ensured that Bob was hiding in the room, Lanny ran back to open the door and gave David his suitcase.

"Why did you lock the door?" David wondered as deep creases appeared on his forehead.

David tried entering the house to test if Lanny was hiding something or someone, but Lanny immediately blocked his way using her body.

"Just go now, or you'll be late for work," she sternly said.

David tilted his head, staring at her with suspicion. "Who cares if I'm late? What are you hiding?"

At the same time David asked a question, he got a whiff of an unfamiliar scent of a human inside the house.

Lanny noticed that, so she interrupted his deduction by pushing him hard on his chest. "Just go now, David!"

"Are you hiding your man inside?" David did not back down. "Who is that bastard?"

"Shut up! I don't have another man!" Lanny shoved the briefcase at him again. "Just take it and go!"

David was annoyed by her attitude but did not want to make a scene outside and disturb their neighbors. He used force and pushed the door open along with Lanny. He then walked inside the house before slamming the door closed.

"Watch your attitude, woman!" David raised his voice. "You keep testing my patience! I still haven't forgotten what you did earlier!"

"As if you didn't test mine as well! Who are you to lecture me?" Lanny argued.

David shook his head as he could not bear living under the same roof, especially with what he had discovered. "Whatever. I've thought it over, and I'm so done. I'm leaving this house."

"What?" Lanny's eyes widened. "Where are you going? Don't tell me you're going to live with your mistress?"

"Whatever I do is none of your business now," David simply said, then went out of the house after taking his briefcase.

Bob heard the couple arguing in the living room. He surveyed the room and noticed that the laptop was on.

Out of curiosity, he cautiously moved closer to the desk and hovered over the mouse. He cracked the password, giving him access to Lanny's email, where she had just received the DNA test results.

Bob recalled his assignments and realized that the results were essential to Lanny. He was excited as he could use the results to his advantage.

Without ado, Bob downloaded the file and printed the results.

Fortunately, Lanny and David were still busy arguing with each other. Their voices drowned the noise coming from the printer.

Once he was done, Bob deleted the soft copies, folded the results, and put them in his pocket. He then moved with fast hands to hack the laboratory's system to ensure that the results could not be duplicated.

After taking care of everything, he went behind the door, listened for movement in the living room, and walked out of the room when he heard David take his leave.

Bob found Lanny alone in the living room. He did not bother saying farewell to her. He avoided looking until he was finally outside.

Lanny watched his back, finding him strange. However, she shrugged her shoulders and spun around to walk back to the room when she suddenly remembered the results.

Her eyes went wide open. She hurriedly checked her laptop but did not get any email from the laboratory. She also tried to access their website, and an error flashed on her screen.

'Fuck Bob! This must be his work!' Lanny gritted her teeth.

She picked up her phone and called the customer service hotline of the laboratory, only to find out that their system had been hacked, and all data could not be recovered.

'This is David's fault! If he didn't come back, this wouldn't happen! Fuck him! Fuck Bob!'

While cursing those two men in her mind, Lanny immediately called Bob and pretended to be calm when he answered. "Hi, Bob. I just want to ask if you did something to my laptop?"

"Hmm... I don't know what you're talking about, Lanny."

Lanny got instantly irritated as Bob shamelessly denied what he did.

"Don't lie to me, Bob. I know you're the one who hacked the laboratory's system," she said sternly.

"What if I say I did hack onto their website?" Bob asked smugly, knowing that he had the upper hand that time. "And if I may add, I also found an exciting file in your email. DNA results, huh?"

Lanny shifted to her position. "You have the results?!"

Instead of answering her question, Bob only chuckled.

"I want you to return to my house and give it back now," Lanny ordered him like she always did.

"Do you think I will just give this back to you without anything in return?" Bob asked.

"What do you want then? Name it!"

"I guess 200,000 dollars is enough for these DNA results, don't you think?"

'What? Two hundred thousand dollars?' Lanny almost fainted.

However, she quickly got a grip on herself when she thought of a plan. She could just pretend that she would pay him and ask him to come back to get the results. Once she got what she wanted, she could just quickly kill him as he was no longer of use to her.

"Okay. I'll give you the money, but you have to give me the result here at my house," Lanny told him.

"No," Bob rejected her invitation right away, which shattered her perfect plan. "Let's meet somewhere else."

"What?!" Lanny exclaimed, but she forced herself to calm down, not to intimidate Bob. "Well, okay, I understand. How about this... Send me your bank account number, and I will wire the money to you?"

Bob chuckled once again. "Do you take me as a fool, Lanny?" he asked. "You could easily sue me for extortion for such a large amount. I won't take the risk. Let's meet in person."

"Okay then..." Clenching her fists, Lanny exhaled heavily. "Tell me where you want us to meet."

"In an hour, meet me at the coffee shop near your house, first street on the right," Bob said. "Make sure you have the money with you in cash, or just forget that this DNA result ever existed."
