Chapter 75: Chapter 75

Chapter 75 Unannounced Visitor

In the morning, the printer's sound woke Lanny from her sleep. She opened her eyes in a daze and lay motionless in her bed, having no plans to go to work.

Everyone in the company was talking about her, and there were many reports regarding her attitude at work. She was too embarrassed to face her colleagues, especially after the president humiliated her.

Lanny was not planning to accept the president's arrangement to transfer her to a branch office. It was located in a remote suburb, and she was unwilling to drive to and from work every day for two hours.

Most importantly, leaving Skytel for her was almost the same as giving up on Bella and the president, and she could only imagine her husband having the freedom to cheat as he pleased.

Those thoughts haunted Lanny and filled her with discomfort. She let out a pent-up breath, got out of bed, and went to the kitchen to cook breakfast instead of drowning in stress.

Lanny brewed black coffee and heated small muffins in the skillet. The smell of butter and eggs wafted throughout the kitchen. Once she was done, she served breakfast and called her husband to join her.

David approached her with a piece of paper and laid it in front of Lanny. She simply glanced at the header. It was her transfer notice to the branch office.

"I thought you're going to convince the president to reconsider his decision," David said as he sat on the dining chair.

"I did."

"And you failed?" David asked with amusement, slightly mocking her.

Lanny sighed heavily, suppressing her irritation. She could only rely on David's money at the moment because she had no plans to return to work yet. She had to be patient with him.

"Well, as my husband and the company director, I thought you would be able to do something," she reasoned to save face.

"I don't think it's worth the trouble." David shrugged his shoulders. "Working or not, I'm still giving you a monthly allowance to pay for your caprices. Don't you think that's enough?"

David casually picked up a muffin, drizzled maple syrup, and stuffed it in his mouth.

In a split second, he quickly spat it on his plate and wiped his mouth with the table napkin before looking at Lanny again.

"Now that you have more time on your plate, why don't you learn how to cook and act more like a wife instead?" David suggested, which only aggravated Lanny more. "If only you're more like your sister... Bella is very wife-material. She is caring, capable, and also a good cook. She knows all about my preferences."

Lanny clenched her fists. She could take David's insults, but being compared to her sister was beyond her patience.

"I regret divorcing Bella and calling her incompetent. Now, she is getting better at her job and is well-appreciated by the president," he continued. "On the other hand, you bring nothing but shame to my name. You're even on the verge of losing your job. If it weren't for my position at the company, you would've been fired long ago."

As David was busy rambling, he did not notice that Lanny had already made a move to get the pot of hot coffee. She then stood to his side and positioned the pot over his head.

"Why are you here-"

As soon as he realized what Lanny was about to do, David quickly got up from his seat and stepped back, avoiding the pot dangling on his head.

"You're crazy!" David yelled in panic.

Lanny smirked and raised her brow. "Go ahead, David. Test my patience. I'll show you how crazy I can get," she said, threatening him.

David shook his head in disbelief. Knowing Lanny's crazy antics, he did not bother arguing with her. He pulled himself away from the dining room and rushed out of the house.

After David left, Lanny did not bother doing the chores and returned to the room. She sat in front of the computer, patiently waiting for the test results. A corner of her lips lifted to a grin, thinking about her next steps once she had acquired the result.

Lanny would threaten Edward to remarry her and become the president's wife again. As for David, she had decided to divorce him after receiving all those insults.

'To hell with him and Bella! As long as I can be the president's wife, I won't need him anymore,' she thought, interrupted by the doorbell sound.

With growing irritation, Lanny minimized the server's window, went out of the room, and opened the door.

Bob did not hesitate and walked inside the house, catching Lanny off guard by his unannounced visit. "I'm here to get paid, and if you still refuse to give me my fees, I'll stay here and ask your husband to pay me instead."

"Shh! Keep your voice down! Someone might hear you!"

"I don't care. I need my money."

"Wait here and don't go anywhere! I'll get your payment," Lanny impatiently said and rushed back to the room. She had to get rid of him as she still had to see the results.

As Bob had not eaten properly for days, he could not stand still in the living room and headed over to the dining. His eyes lit up when he saw some eggs and muffins, which he immediately stuffed into his mouth. He could not correctly determine how they tasted as he nearly died out of hunger.

"Hey! Did I permit you to come here?" Lanny caught him eating the leftovers like a beggar and was disgusted. She could not remember the last time she saw him looking decent. "I told you not to go anywhere. Trespassing is against the law."

"Then call the police and report me-I don't care anymore." Bob shrugged his shoulders and ate another muffin. "In my current state, I'd rather go to jail. At least I'd have a decent meal and room and board. I don't have to worry about paying bills and rent, so go ahead and call them. It'd be my pleasure."

Seeing Bob's nonchalance, Lanny knew better than to speak sense to him. She just sighed and handed the money over to him.

"Now that you got the money, you should go now." Lanny pushed him out of the dining room.

However, just as she was about to lead Bob outside, Lanny heard someone trying to open the door. Her eyes widened, and she froze for a second before quickly activating the second lock of the door.

"Who is it?" she asked cautiously.

"It's me, David."
