Chapter 48: Chapter 48
Chapter 48 The President's Concern
Bella quickly walked to the office where the finance department was located and knocked on the door.
The entrance was promptly opened by a young woman.
Helen, the treasurer, saw Bella and stood up swiftly to greet her.
"Hello, Bella, is there something that I can help you with?" Helen welcomed Bella warmly and guided her to sit in the VIP chair.
"Thank you, I'm just here to claim a ticket. Please help me with it." Bella was warmed by Helen's hospitality.
Helen hurriedly took the ticket out of the folder and presented it with both hands.
"You're welcome, please wait for a while, I'll get this sorted out for you as soon as possible." Helen hastily took the ticket with a flattering smile and handed it to that young woman, giving her a wink and signaling her to take care of it as soon as possible.
Bella grinned and nodded at Helen.
While pouring tea and offering snacks to Bella, Helen praised her beauty and slim body.
Bella was embarrassed, but she felt very happy inside because earlier when she was surrounded by people, she was only entertained by their blank stares.
But now everything was different. She was treated courteously and sometimes even with preferential treatment.
Her life was getting better. When did it start? Probably since she and Edward got married.
'Edward was like a blessing to her', she thought.
"Ms. Bella, the reimbursement has been processed, sorry to keep you waiting." Helen's voice reached her ears. "If you need anything in the future, just contact me."
"Yes, thank you," Bella responded with a humble beam.
After walking out of the finance department? Bella checked the folder in her hand and found that there was an additional business card with Helen's personal phone number written on it.
Bella didn't think much about it and casually stuffed it into her bag.
In the president's office, Andrew was standing at the president's desk reading a report.
"Boss, Dr. Leonard told me that a woman visited him at the hospital this morning. According to his description, I identified the woman as Lanny and I guess the stalker was also invited by her."
Hearing this, the president frowned slightly.
Even the modest change in the president's facial expression made Andrew swallow nervously.
"I don't want to know how you guessed that." The president said coldly. "I just want to know the exact information. You should understand that even the minutest omission could be fatal."
"Got it." Andrew nodded with a serious expression and quietly waited for the president's next instruction. More seconds passed but the president was silent much to the petrification of Andrew. Every passing second felt longer than a century for him.
Unable to stand any more pensiveness he tentatively asked, "boss, do I need to go to Lanny?"
The president had hardly bent his finger and tapped lightly on the desktop yet Andrew understood it all. Lanny was not worth their hands.
He took two steps back and prepared to leave but the president stopped him. "Send more people to keep an eye on the Garcia family."
"Got it, sir." Andrew bowed to the president and left.
After Andrew left, the president walked to the floor-to-ceiling window and pulled open the blinds gazing out at the city.
The city's skyscrapers are like honeycombs filled with countless rooms about 100 square meters, as large as a beehive, inhabited by hard-working people.
Most people in this world are like worker bees who have been preparing their lives for creative labor since the moment they were born.
They got the nutrition they needed to live from the tasteless food produced by industry and gather the knowledge that was collected and summarized by human beings.
When they would turn 18 in the dull classroom, they had to go through a series of precision instruments to pass the test before they could enter the workplace and start the hard work that went throughout their lives until their twilight.
Edward did not belong to one of them. He was born a noble Alpha, inherited his family's great wealth, and dominated the businesses in the human world.
Edward once saw himself as the hero of the forest and, the pride of the Wolf Pack. He disdained all ordinary humans and werewolves with mediocre intellect.
But after that fateful accident, all his pride was shattered. He began to realize a very simple fact - there was darkness in this world besides light.
Four months ago, he accidentally bumped into the crime of illegal gun smuggling in the Garcia family business.
He spent a month searching around for evidence. Just when he thought he had won the case and was on his way to the police station with the evidence to report the crime he was attacked by a pack of rouges.
When he woke up again, he was already lying in a hospital bed and the evidence he was carrying had disappeared.
He hit the bedpan with indignation and vowed to seek revenge on the Garcia family.
Mrs. Wilson arrived at the sound of his voice and urged him to calm down.
There was no evidence in their hands to suggest that the Garcia family had orchestrated the affair.
The only thing he can do now is to pretend to be disabled by his injuries and trapped in a wheelchair so as to entreat the Garcia family's concerns which would prevent him from being attacked again.
But every action had consequences. Being trapped in a wheelchair had sapped his will to find the evidence.
Edward felt like the living dead. Even when he returned to the office wearing a mask, he felt like a Porcellio in the shadows who hid in a dark corner, avoiding the outside world. Nonetheless like a blessing in disguise from the day he and Bella got married, nothing was the same.
Bella's appearance matched her sister but their temperament was very different.
Lanny looked beautiful but her eyes were shrewd and calculating. The corners of her mouth were always with a slight smile of contempt.
On the other hand, Bella looked soft with pure eyes. The corners of her mouth were always slightly drooping and her expression was some kind of sadness.
At first, his attraction toward Bella was limited to the physical attraction between mates. He would want to touch her, hug her and kiss her but wasn't sure if he could love her.
As they spent time together, he realized that she was not as soft as she appeared but on the contrary was stronger than he was.
Even though she was treated unfairly at every turn of her life, she seemed to have an infinite ability to remain hopeful.
Her optimism inspired him and he fell in love with her. Edward felt like life had never been as good as it was now.
He had to guard this happiness and would not allow anyone to stand in their way.
?Edward heard the sound of the elevator opening from the distance. It might be Bella coming back from the office.
He left the window and went back to his desk, turned on his computer and worked, pretending that everything was normal.
Bella entered the office with a smile, she seemed to be in a good mood.
Edward had never been so eager to get off work as he was today, he wanted to get rid of this annoying mask, take off this suit and spend time with Bella as her husband.
