Chapter 36: Chapter 36
Chapter 36 Family
Bella's voice became lower and lower as she spoke. Edward almost couldn't hear what she said.
Because she was ashamed.
She knew Edward was telling the truth. Lanny was indeed immoral, and she had disgraced the company.
But what could she say? She had no idea.
When Bella stared at her watch and waited outside the office, Edward was looking at her on the computer screen.
He knew Bella didn't want to get into trouble. He didn't want to scare her, so he didn't expose her. "Twenty minutes ago, she stood where you are standing now, tried to seduce me, and said a lot of dirty words. I'm serious, and there's no misunderstanding."
Hearing Edward's words, Bella immediately moved aside as if she was standing on pins and needles.
However, she still felt disgusted.
The president's tone was firm. He was determined to fire Lanny.
Everyone in the company knew the president had a strange temper, and no one could tell whether he was angry or happy.
Jenny once told her that many women who dream of marrying the president would seduce him, but the president threw them out every time.
Lanny was so stupid, wasn't she? She had worked here for so many years, but she had no sense of propriety. She was about to lose her job.
Bella could imagine what would happen if Lanny was dismissed.
Lanny wouldn't hurt herself. She always shifted the blame onto others.
If she hurt others, she had to pay the price. However, it didn't matter to hurt her punching bag, Bella.
Lanny might even vent her anger on her parents.
Edward thought Bella would feel happy when she heard that he wanted to fire Lanny. However, Bella's expression became more and more serious. He asked, "If you have any ideas, tell me."
Bella was worried about Mr. and Mrs. White, so she said tentatively, "President, I believe she didn't mean it. I hope you can give her a chance."
"As far as I know, you don't get along well with your elder sister."
Bella hurriedly said, "My parents always hope Lanny and I could get along well. They love Lanny more than their lives. If you could, I beg you to give her a second chance. Please don't dismiss her."
Bella finished her words in one breath, closed her eyes, and waited for his answer.
She knew her request was absurd.
Lanny had offended the president. Why should the president think for her parents?
But she couldn't regret what she had said.
Perhaps the president would dismiss her, too.
"Alright."
Bella couldn't believe what she had heard. "President, do you agree?"
Edward said, "I'll give her a chance for your sake. But I won't let her go easily. I'll cut her pay as punishment."
Although Bella looked very weak, she had never begged someone for her affairs.
But she begged the president she didn't like just because she didn't want her parents to be sad.
When she said her parents loved Lanny more than their lives, there was no complaint in her tone.
She was living a hard life, but she stubbornly cared about her parents who always ignored her.
What a kind and pitiful girl!
Bella had suffered abrupt mood swings, and her heart beat violently.
It was great that the president would only cut Lanny's pay. At least Lanny wouldn't be dismissed and her parents wouldn't be sad.
She bowed solemnly and said, "Thank you, president. I will work harder to repay you."
Edward smiled, but there was no emotion in his tone as he said, "Looking forward to it."
In the evening, Bella and Edward sat on the sofa watching the popular soap opera.
It was a warm scene of a family reunion. The parents held their daughter happily, and they all looked delighted.
Bella showed a yearning look.
Edward, who had been paying attention to her, noticed it and asked, "Do you plan to go back to visit your parents recently?"
He remembered when Mr. and Mrs. White came to trouble Bella last time, Bella said she would go back after she got a stable job.
Bella hesitated for a moment and replied, "I'll go to the mall to buy gifts for my parents when I get paid, and then I'll go back to see them."
She thought of her parents just now, so she wanted to go back to see them and talk with them.
But something terrible happened when they met last time. Her parents were unhappy when they left.
Moreover, Lanny would definitely complain to their mother.
She could guess what Lanny would say. Lanny would speak ill of her, saying that she went against Lanny deliberately and insisted on working in the company.
Perhaps David would complain to her father, too.
She didn't know what her parents would do when she went back. Would they ask her to quit her job and move back again?
She wouldn't give in, so they would quarrel again.
Alas! Bella felt so upset at the thought of this.
She could only select gifts for them carefully. She could buy her mother a set of expensive skincare products, and then choose a durable coat for her father. She hoped they wouldn't be so mad for the sake of the gifts.
"Hmm," Edward answered softly.
He was thinking about preparing the gifts for Bella's parents in the name of the president, just like how he gave the clothes and black card to Bella.
Although Bella was so satisfied with her salary, in his opinion, it could only be regarded as pocket money. What nice things could she buy?
How could his wife give others something cheap as gifts?
Speaking of her parents, Bella was no longer interested in the soap opera. She turned her head and asked Edward, "What about your family?"
Edward used to be a rich man. Before he had an accident, Lanny and Mrs. White often talked about how generous Edward was and how luxurious Lanny's life was. She spent lots of money in the luxurious shops every day.
But Bella didn't hear anything about Edward's family.
It was understandable that Lanny didn't care about Edward's family. She only loved herself. As long as she had enough money, all she wanted to do was to spend money and show off. How could she wonder why Edward was so rich?
However, she was not qualified to complain about Lanny. After all, she had lived with Edward for so long, but she never asked about his family.
What did Edward's family look like? What kind of people were they? Did Edward look like his father or his mother? Or did he look like both of his parents?
Mrs. Wilson's face flashed through Bella's mind.
It seemed that Edward looked like Mrs. Wilson. For example, their eyes were blue-gray.
