Chapter 108: Chapter 108

Chapter 108 Meeting Again

It was five o'clock in the afternoon, and Bella had booked a flight to London at 6 PM the next day. She sorted out the president's guest list and meeting minutes for the next month, handed it over to Kelvin, and told him some things to pay special attention to.

"Mr. Smith likes unsweetened black coffee. Miss Jesse doesn't like being disturbed when meeting with the president. If there's nothing important, don't disturb them. Don't even think about getting them water or food."

"Okay, I see; you've marked these on the list. Don't worry, I'll keep this in mind and will try not to forget. Relax, Bella. I've understood. You can count on me. You don't need to give me the instructions repeatedly," Kelvin said with a wide smile.

"Oh, sorry, sorry. I know I'm being a bit long-winded, but I can't help but feel nervous as if something bad will happen. You know, when we were in Hawaii, Edward proposed to me and we haven't decided on a wedding yet. I have this dreadful feeling that we will be forced to make changes in our schedules due to this business trip. I can't exactly say what kind of changes though. Anyway, I'm very anxious now, as you can see. It's just that my brain is always afraid of ominous things happening. I'm also afraid that the business trip will be dragged out. Not to mention that don't want to cause too many inconveniences for Edward's aunt. See where I'm coming from?" she asked, her perfectly arched eyebrows raised.

Kelvin put his hands on her shoulders, looked at her with tender eyes, and comforted her in a soft voice, "Yes, Bella, I understand. Let me say something, though, you are a perfect employee, you have always been meticulous in your work, and you're not prone to making mistakes. So, I think that your worries are completely unnecessary. Come on now, put a smile on that pretty face!"

"Ugh, Kevin, I trust you'll do an amazing job. Can I confess something, though? I may give the impression of being super confident, but in reality, I'm not as confident as I appear to be!" she forced a smile. "But you're right. I'm going to stop worrying and overstressing. Anxiety most certainly leads to bad decision-making."

"Very well, I'll take a good look at these documents. Don't worry, I'll try my best to emulate your impeccable work principles. I wish you a smooth journey in advance," Kelvin said, blowing her a kiss before returning to his workstation.

'It's okay, it's okay, it's okay,' Bella chanted those words to comfort herself. She turned her attention back to the computer and felt extremely motivated to give her best for whatever last bit of work remaining. When it was time to wrap up the day's work in the afternoon, she packed her things, looked at her desk with a heavy heart. With a sigh, she walked out of the office, made her way to the elevator and pressed on the button. When the elevator door opened, she was surprised to see Jenny standing there with a big smile across her face.

When Jenny saw Bella, she waved her hand vigorously and cried, "Hey! Bella, come in; I was just on my way to find you. Let's go down together."

Bella was stunned for a second, then reacted. She immediately walked into the elevator and said with a chuckle, "Ha-ha, I didn't expect you to come to find me."

"I know you're going abroad. When exactly? I want to invite you to dinner before you leave," Jenny asked.

"I've booked a flight for tomorrow afternoon," Bella replied not-so-enthusiastically.

"Ah! Fortunately, I've come just in time then. Otherwise, I wouldn't have had a chance to have a meal with you before you leave," Jenny chirped. It was hard for her to contain the excitement that was so visible in her demeanor.

Bella was about to refuse because she was planning on heading straight home early tonight to pack her luggage, but after seeing Jenny's radiant smile and sweet face, she thought it would be rude to refuse. She grinned at Jenny and said, "Okay, I'm in. Let's go!"

After leaving the company building, Jenny and Bella took the bus to a French restaurant located on one of the most prosperous streets in Los Angeles. Its architecture was rustic and beautiful, and whoever had designed the building had extremely good taste. Two greeters were stationed at the entrance, one of whom was a valet.

Bella looked at several luxury cars parked outside the hotel and couldn't help but say jokingly "Jenny, are you sure we're going to eat here tonight? Can I check your wallet first to make sure you have enough money to pay the bill? Because I'm telling you, I don't want us to be forced to stay here to work to pay because we can't afford the food."

"Ha-ha, don't worry. I have no plans for you to become a waitress here, Secretary Bella," Jenny said, laughing softly. Bella's joke amused her.

After getting off the bus, Jenny said to the man, "Hello. We have reserved a table under the name of Fernando Garcia. Could you lead the way?"

"A warm welcome to our restaurant, distinguished guests. Please follow me," the tall and handsome greeter with light blue eyes and fair skin bowed deeply to them and said politely.

Hearing Fernando Garcia's name, Jenny took a deep breath. She covered her mouth to prevent herself from screaming out of surprise. She looked at Bella suspiciously and asked, "What's going on here? Fernando Garcia?"

Jenny pursed her lips shyly to hide a smile, "It's a long story, I'll tell you later."

Seeing Jenny's coy look, Bella peered at her suspiciously and asked with curiosity, "Come on now, don't kid me. Are you-are you dating him??"

"Well, technically speaking, we are dating," Jenny replied with a triumphant smile. Seeing Bella's shocked expression, Jenny couldn't hide her pride, and her smile deepened.

Indeed, who could believe such a thing? That the ordinary Jenny could actually associate with someone as prominent and respected as Fernando Garcia. When Jenny was very young, her parents got divorced. Her mother, Kate, took her to live with relatives, ranging from two weeks to one or two years. Since she did not have a fixed residence, she did not go to school. Her mother would give her lessons at home. As for the duration of the lessons, it would depend on how long Kate was sober during the day. She was an alcoholic who got drunk every single day. After drinking too much, she would take her anger out on her daughter, by subjecting her to physical abuse. In those horrible years, Jenny had no home of her own, nor a playmate, as other children did. She was constantly made fun of by other kids and was known as "Homeless Jenny".

She could only endure these grievances silently and could not mention it to Kate, because in Kate's view, the reason why relatives were reluctant to stay with them or why friends wouldn't keep her company was that Jenny was not likeable. The child was taciturn and always gloomy, unlike other children of the same age.

When she was old enough and independent, Jenny signed up for the UC entrance exam after having self-taught high school. Much to her amazement, she was admitted with honors and received a full scholarship. After leaving her vicious mother, she made a lot of friends and this time, they were the ones who constantly encouraged her. It was their support that had made her into the Jenny that she was now. She gradually became more cheerful, but her inferiority complex was firmly rooted in her soul despite being very successful in her present life. For a whole now, she had been planning on finding a good man to marry her and form a happy family so she could show Kate and everyone that she, Jenny, deserved to be happy.

The reality was easier than Jenny had previously imagined. She walked into the private room and saw the most handsome man she had ever seen in her life, her boyfriend. She knew that everyone would envy her and treat her differently with such a fine man by her side.

Fernando Garcia, Jenny's "boyfriend", raised his head and his gaze fell on Bella, the woman he was dying to meet. There was a hidden, imperceptible smile in his eyes as their eyes locked.
