Chapter 240: Chapter 240
[SAMANTHA’s Point of View]
“Are you okay, Mommy?”
I thought I was just dizzy until I heard my twins ask me worriedly. Diana held my cold hand and placed it on her cheek to warm my cold fingertips, while Devon’s eyes refused to look away from my face as if scared something wrong might happen if ever he blinked.
Dominic must have heard the kids and stared at my face, too. His eyes softened the second he noticed something in me, and then he immediately approached me, placing his hand on my forehead.
“You are having a little fever,” Dominic whispered to me, alarmed that I was feeling sick. I almost yelped when he lifted me in his arms, making my eyes widen in surprise.
“Put me down!” I hissed at him, not angrily, though, but I knew my face was flushing red as I eyed him, embarrassed that the kids were giggling as they saw us.
Dominic, who seemed to be enjoying the moment, grinned at me, and I thought my heart skipped a beat as I saw those bright hazel eyes gaze down at my lips. “What? Too embarrassed to be carried like a baby? Too bad because you are my baby.”
I thought my cheeks turned hot as I lowered my eyes and bit my lower lip hard. Dominic must have noticed the nervous feeling I felt as his skin touched mine, and he suddenly turned silent, his eyes slightly darkening as he stared into mine. Thıs text ıs hosted at noveⅼfire.net
Now that Dominic was back to himself after the curse was finally lifted, I could finally feel him very well through the mate bond. And those feelings brought tension between us, as I felt his desire when he let out a heavy sigh.
“Come on, kids. I think I saw something intriguing outside the building. Who wants to go with me and check if there are large beetle bugs we can bring back to add to your collections?” Killian waved at the kids as soon as he sensed the awkward atmosphere between my husband and me.
Was he trying to give space for me and Dominic? When I caught his eyes, there was sadness in them. But I refused to believe that he was feeling jealous or anything like that. He had a mate, and he treasured Brianne more than anyone or anything. There was no way he still had feelings for me even after I left the MoonStone Pack.
As Killian helped the kids get out of the building, leaving me and Dominic behind while my husband carried me towards the exit, I suddenly thought about something to ask. Something that had been bothering me for so many years.
“I had a feeling that you had something you wanted to say on our wedding night five years ago,” I murmured and was too shy to look him in the eyes. I could still feel his desire through the matebond, and his body was so warm that my body couldn’t help but respond to it.
How long had it been since we shared a bed? Five months? Six? We were both so busy and scared of everything that was happening to the pack and the curse that almost overtook his body that we had no time to think about us. About our feelings for each other. About what we still meant to each other.
Dominic looked at me, his eyes still dark but softened with emotions that I couldn’t tell. My heart started to race as I listened to his heartbeat when I pressed my ear against his chest.
I waited for his answer, feeling all nervous and scared for it, so I braced myself as he spoke softly.
“I guess I thought you were braver than I had imagined.”
What did he mean braver?!
I didn’t know what I should feel about what he said. Was I supposed to be disappointed about it? Upset? I had no idea what he really meant about it, and I wanted to ask. But what if he says the things that would only hurt me? Could I handle it?
There was something he was hiding from me, and I felt it when he stared away from me and focused his eyes on our way out of the building. Killian and the kids were walking a few meters ahead of us. Both of us fell into an awkward silence until I was strong enough again to walk on my own.
I was looking for the MoonStone Alpha to thank him for all the things he did for my husband and the kids when we went to the Wolf Tomb. For helping us and giving the Jade blade to Dominic when the thing could save his life and get rid of the curse that was still deteriorating his health.
If it wasn’t for the potion that my mother left in the box, I wasn’t sure how long Killian could stay alive while we haven’t destroyed the source.
He didn’t hear me, though. He was talking to someone over the phone. Brianne? I wasn’t sure. But I knew it was something serious.
His face was grim and unsmiling. It made me worry about what was happening, and then I thought maybe it was something about the MoonStone pack. His Beta must be convincing him to go back already to report what was happening here.
I decided not to distract Killian, so I headed to the hallway and thought about checking on the kids when I walked past my husband’s office and heard Liam talking to my husband, sounding alarmed and worried. I got curious about what it was, so I knocked on the door and smiled at both of them.
“It’s okay, Liam. I want to know whatever it is that you are reporting to my husband. Is it about the Black Claws starting to grow numbers outside the northern gates?”
“Yes, unfortunately,” he answered as he sighed and then shook his head a little if the thought was causing him a little panic. "The patrol team informed me that the Black Claws are screaming for revenge, and I believe this is all related to the Bennettes.”
“But they are dead. Both Olivia and her father,” I frowned as I walked towards my husband’s desk, who was silently listening to his Beta with a contemplative look. Creating plans in his head as he focuses on the problem. “You mean they want revenge because we killed the Bennettes? I didn’t know those two meant so much to those savages.”
“Perhaps because they treat them as their leader?” Liam tried to speculate but then he wasn’t sure about it either.
“We are not sure if it is really about the Bennettes.” Dominic finally spoke as he looked at me and his Beta. “But it is time that we end this. Now that the curse no longer holds me back, I can finally fight and continue the war against these people. While we seek the source, I have to make sure they can’t infiltrate Silver Crescent.”
“If you are going outside the gates, then I will accompany you,” I said fiercely, surprising even Liam with the tone of my voice. He never expected me to say it, knowing that I would always choose to stay with the twins, but this time, I knew I was powerful enough to help my husband fight those beasts that wanted to destroy our territory and home.
I got a little worried when Dominic didn’t answer. Instead, he stared at me as if thinking if he would really let me.
“You know I can fight!” I hissed at him, staring him straight into his hazel eyes. “Let me fight with you this time, Dominic.
I was relieved when a side of Dominic’s lips tugged into a grin, and then he stood from his seat as he gave orders to his Beta. “Tell the north guards to prepare. My wife and I will have fun cleaning that side of the territory from those bastards.”
