Lucas

Lucas could not believe the guts of Derrick to do something like that to Kayla. They were even supposed to keep their identity a secret but for Derrick to use such a metaphor for Kayla was him almost revealing their identity to her. He was so angry that he felt like his wolf was going to burst out of him.

A part of him worried too. The only humans that Derrick had ever revealed his identity to were humans that he ended up killing. He was an asshole but he wasn't stupid. What if he was planning to kill Kayla? It was either that or he was seriously messing with him.

'you should just kill him' his wolf told him and growled inside of him.

But Lucas knew he could not just kill Derrick in cold blood even though he wished he could, he was not a killer but yet he would do anything it takes to keep Kayla safe.

What was he going to do to get Derrick to leave Kayla alone. He had already breached their agreement and broken his promise. He could no longer take his nonsense, he thought as he shook with anger

He stormed out of his chambers and towards Derrick's. There was only one way to keep her safe from him and that was what he was going to do.

Lucas banged on Derrick's door when he got to his chambers. Derrick came out almost immediately. It was almost as if he was expecting Lucas. He stood outside his door and folded his hands across his chest. His black eyes assessed Lucas up and down.

"A fight to the death" Lucas said, still fuming with anger

"What?" Derrick said, smirking

"I want us to have a fight to the death. Since you've decides to go against our agreement and threaten Kayla, I think this is the only way out" Lucas said

Derrick scoffed "you're crazy" he said

"Unless you're too scared to fight" Lucas told him. He knew that that would get Derrick riled up.

"You know nothing will give me a greater pleasure than to kill you" Derrick said

"So what do you say?" Lucas asked and folded his own hands across his chest

"Father will never agree. He will have the head of whoever survives" Derrick said, still scoffing

Lucas had not thought of that. Of course Alpha Duke will find all of these ridiculous. He would not lose his son because of a human girl. Lucas realized then that Kayla would still not be safe if he wins against Derrick. Knowing the Alpha as he did, he would have her head on a plate to teach him a lesson.

Lucas moved closer to Derrick. So close that he could feel his breath against his face

"Why won't you leave her alone, huh? Why won't you just let us be?" Lucas shouted at him

Derrick straightened himself up as well until he was standing nose to nose with Lucas.

"Because the world is my playground and I do whatever the hell I want" Derrick said. Then he laughed, right in Lucas's face, his teeth glinting in the reflection of the lights that lined the long passageway.

Lucas wanted to punch him hard on his mouth so his teeth can fall out. He wanted him to taste blood but then he restrained himself. It wouldn't do any good. They would both end up fighting and messing up one another's face and then he will have to explain to Kayla tomorrow what happened to his face.

Without breaking eye contact with Derrick, Lucas took a step back. And then another. And another. Then he suddenly turned and disappeared into the night. He could still hear Derrick's laughter ringing after him.

"You're such a coward" his wolf told him and Lucas noticed that it was even more incensed than he was.

"Acting out will not solve anything now. It will only make Derrick hurt her quicker" he said.

"Not if he's dead" his wolf sneered

Lucas entered his chambers and slammed the door in anger. He ran his hands through his hair in exasperation and sat down on his spacious bed.

He had to think of what he was going to tell Kayla tomorrow. Of course he couldn't tell her that he was a werewolf and that his jealous stepbrother wanted her dead. He had to give her a reason for why Derrick had placed that phone in her purse and why he had spoke to her in such a threatening manner.

That night, Lucas could not sleep as he turned and tossed on his bed. When he got to school, he saw Kayla outside the gate of the school. She seemed to be waiting for him. She was wearing a short white skirt, a red tank top and black shoes. She waved to him as soon as he drove him.

Lucas parked his car and came down. Kayla walked up to him and he gave her a hug, holding her so tightly that she winced.

"Are you okay?" She asked him

"Yea" he said as he released her.

"I brought the phone with me" she said and as she said that, she reached inside her bag and brought out a small flip phones. She stared at it for a moment and handed it over to Lucas. Lucas collected it from her and turned it over in his hands.

"I'm so sorry about that" he said to her.

"Was it Derrick?" Kayla asked him

Lucas sighed. He looked down at his hands and then up again at Kayla. He looked into the two beautiful blue orbs that were her eyes. "yes" he said

"Why did he do it?' Kayla said but before he couldn answer, the bell rang.

'Saved by the bell' Lucas said in his head. Eventually, he had to give a reason for what happened but he was ready to postpone it for as long as he could.

"I guess we'll talk about it during lunch" Kayla said as she have give a quick kiss on the lips "I really hope there's a good story to explain this" she said, turned and then was walked away.

Was that a threat he thought he heard in her voice with the last statement? It sounded like there was an 'or else' in front of it that she chose not to voice out. Was she going to say that she hopes there was a good reason for this or else she will break up with him? He hoped desperately that he was only imagining the 'or else'

He would just have to find out during lunch.
