Chapter 29: Chapter 29

"What?" I asked after coughing violently.
"Or don't you both want to get married?" My dad asked looking at Alexis and I.
I glanced at Alexis who still looked like she was in shock. "Do you?" I asked and she nodded.
"Then what's the problem?" My mom asked.
"We're bound to be surprised, dad just said it out of the blue."
"That's enough. Alexis, you should get prepared. Come in the afternoon for lunch then in the evening for the engagement." My father instructed and she nodded.
I can't believe this is happening. Is this real? Could my father be up to something?
"But what's with the rush?"
"The plan is to have you both married by the same time you were supposed to marry Penelope."
"Wait, but the date i was supposed to marry her is the day after tomorrow."
"Ding ding! Smart boy! So better prepare."
The table after that was just filled with talks about the engagement and wedding. Alexis reassured my parents that she would take care of everything from the engagement to the wedding.
I feel ecstatic.
After dinner was over I walked both Kylie and Alexis to their car. While Kylie and I were talking, Alexis just seemed quiet.
"What's wrong?" I sheepishly asked.
She shook her head with a faint smile, "It's nothing. I'm just surprised that's all. Were you aware that this was going to happen?"
I shook my head, "I really wasn't. Came as a shock to me as well."
"So true is really happening?! We are getting married. Strange isn't it?"
"What's strange about it?"
"Well just that never imagined marrying you. I always felt like I had zero chances to actually be with you."
"You know you could have right? If you had told me who you were, I could have left Penelope."
"That's the thing, I didn't want you to leave her for me. I didn't want to be referred to as a home wrecker or something."
"Let it be. It's over now, and to be ho-"
"So are you and mommy getting married?" Kylie's voice echoced.
I picked her up, "Yes we are." I answered.
"I hope I will be able to attend it." She frowned.
"Of course baby, why wouldn't you be able to do so?"
"I attend a boarding school so I'm not s-"
"Well not anymore. You will school here with your family."
"But Kyle you just can't mov-"
"Alexis, relax. I'll worry about Kylie for now, you should just focus on wedding preparations."
"Well I'm only agreeing because I also want to be with her." Alexis snorted.
"And well I think it's legal if I kiss you now?" I smirked and she became flustered kind of like she was contemplating kissing me or not.
I chuckled, "You should go now, it's getting late."
"Ah yes. Come on Lily." She urged her to get into the car.
"I'll see you tomorrow, future Mrs Matthews." I teased and got her a wink as she drove away.
I smiled myself back to my house and saw my parents on the couch watching TV. I squinted my eyes at them and walked to them.
"What was that?" I questioned still squinting my eyes at them.
"Well, when your mother and I went to Penelope's house, her father apologised and also told us that he would be getting Brian and her married. If he can face society for his daughter's happiness then why can't we also face society for your happiness?" My father asked back and I couldn't help but smile.
"But what about the merger?" I spit out.
"Oh don't worry. We're still getting a merger. Just prepare for your wedding and be happy, that's all I want from you." My dad smiled and I went on to hug him.
"Why are you only hugging your dad? Who do you think told him about Alexis?" My mom rolled her eyes.
I hugged my mom as well and she laughed.
This is the happiest I've seen this house, everyone's happy.
I woke up late and decided to not go to work, I don't think a man that is getting measured should be going to work often.
I settled in the kitchen to drink my hot cup of coffee.
"Kyle! Where are are you?!" A deep voice called.
"Kitchen!" I answered.
"Come upstairs! Come and decide what you're going to wear for your engagement party tonight!" He yelled again and my eye sockets opened.
Tonight is my engagement party! With a woman I actually adore!
I dropped my coffee on the table and sprinted upstairs. I saw my father talking with a middle aged man. They stopped talking when their eyes landed on me.
"There he is! The groom to be!" My father announced around the other man looked at me from head to toe.
"Not bad, he's in good shape. I can have a suit for by mid day today." The man commented.
"That's all, you can go now." My father urged and I left.
I sprinted upstairs for nothing!
I sighed, running my hand through my hair and relaxed on my bed. I only woke up when a maid urged me to get ready for the lunch that we were supposed to have with Alexis.
With a groan I managed to dress and go downstairs. I headed to the kitchen for a snack because on my family, they wouldn't let me eat anything before guests arrive.
From the kitchen window I could see Alexis' car pull into my house. I dropped my crackers rushed to the dining table.
I wonder what my father wants to announce now. He could have just waited, he did see her yesterday. So what could the need be?
"Welcome dear, I'll walk you to the dining table." I heard my mom's voice echo.
In a short while, Alexis and my mom showed up in the dining room.
"Won't you two greet each other?" My mother questioned.
"We were. You just wanted to make us feel awkward." I shot back and gave Alexis a hug and a kiss on the cheek.
While we sat down, mom and Alexis made small talk and I was starting to get bored.
"Mom, where'-"
"Sorry I'm late." A voice announced as my father entered the room with Emily by his side.
"Good afternoon sir." Alexis greeted with a broad smile and my father just nodded and smiled back.
"Sorry we're late, we had to pick up the others up for the lunch." My father apologised.
"Extras?" I asked and then Brian, Penelope and her parents entered the room.
"Take a seat everyone." My father ordered and everyone took a seat.
Brian and Penelope greeted Alexis and I then congratulated us while we did the same.
Penelope's dad and mine sat down at the extreme and we're discussing between themselves while her mom and mine did theirs at the opposite end.
I realized that everything was gradually falling into place. Everyone was happy stuff there was barely silence in the table.
"The reason we are here is to make another announcement," My father started, drawing everyone's attention to him.
"We decided that the two couples should get engaged and married the same time!" Penelope's dad completed.
We all looked at each other with bright smiles.
"That's a wonderful idea!" Brian and I cheered.
"Good now let's eat and prepare for the engagement later today." Penelope's mom ordered.
We had lunch and everyone went their separate ways for the preparation.
Later that evening, everywhere was decorated beautifully said people were already arriving. Alexis, Brian and Penelope sat down in my room waiting for our parents to announce us.
"You guys should come out now." Penelope's mom called.
Alexis linked her hand with mine while Brian's arm was linked with Penelope's as we all made our way downstairs.
As we walked down the stairs there was nothing but applause and cheering. With a graceful smile we sat down in our special seats.
Later the rings were exchanged and everyone congratulated us.
I have never experienced anything more magical. Today is indeed the best day of my life.
This is only the engagement, imagine how I'd feel during the wedding. Wait a minute.
It's tomorrow!
Tomorrow's my fucking wedding!
