Chapter 20: Chapter 20
AL E X I S
I just stood there, shocked as he said my name. My real name.
So many questions were running through my mind, how? When? Where? Do I concur or do I deny it?
As he further explained what he went through to look for me, I felt like a very shitty person.
I had nothing to say, so I just let him vent. He has every right to be mad at me, because I lied to him.
He stormed off after all the yelling. I watched him with teary eyes walk back into the garden.
I drove home and all I could think of doing was sleep. Maybe not sleep but I wanted to curl up like a ball and cry. Not because Kyle found out the truth-even though Its like half the reason. But because for some reason the only thing that I could think of was that Penelope was expecting Kyle's child.
It was silly of my to think that he would even hold that night sacred. It was also very stupid of me to think that Kyle and Penelope wouldn't have sex.
"Lex-" I heard my sister's voice say in a cheerful voice before my bedroom door opened.
"What's wrong baby?" Her voice said in a solemn tone as she rushed to me.
"Kyle found out the truth." I answered in between tears.
"Shit! I would have said I told you so, but you're not feeling too good right now." Sophie smiled and pulled me close.
At that moment, I felt safe. I felt loved. I felt protected. Being in Sophie's arms around made me know that she'd always be with me- without a doubt.
"So what now? Is he mad? How did he find out? Explain in details. But not like this."
I explained everything that happened to Sophie while we both settled down to eat a bowl of ice cream in the living room.
Sophie always believed in comfort food. And to be honest I was starting to believe too, after a few scoops, I started feeling good kind of.
"Wow! So that means a lot happened to you today." She said while taking a big scoop.
"Well, there's more!" I frowned again as the thought creeped into my head.
"Spill baby sister!" She ordered, feeling giddy about gossip.
"Penelope is pregnant." I slowly announced and her jaw dropped.
"That no good son of a bitch!" She scoffed, holding her spoon like someone that was ready to attack.
"Relax, it's not his fault. I did disappear for years."
"But still, I can't imagine how you must be feeling." She said, looking at me with sorry eyes.
"I'm really not that sad, I mean I've got you.."
"And.."
I rolled my eyes at what she wanted to say but she was correct. There's only one person aside from her that I knew would always be with me.
"So are you still their wedding planner? Or did that dick face fire you?"
"Thankfully, I've still got that."
"He found out about your identity what if he manages to-"
"Don't say that! He wouldn't! After I'm done with the wedding, we'll move! Some place far away from here."
"If you say so. Go to bed, I know you must be feeling really stressed after today."
"I think I should too because I feel sick." I sighed, rubbing my aching tummy.
"Goodnight!" Sophie yelled from behind me while waving at me.
"Same to you girl!" I yelled from the staircase.
After the sun rays managed to penetrate my eyelids, I decided to wake up. I rolled over to the side of my bed and checked my phone. It was ten in the morning and my eyes went open.
I brushed my teeth and went downstairs to see Sophie in the kitchen, while a delightful aroma filled every inch of the living room.
"Look who finally decided to wake up." Sophie sang when she noticed me.
"Why didn't you wake me?!" I questioned with a sigh.
"You seemed really tired, because you never sleep so long- unless.."
"Unless what sister?"
"Are you on your period? Or something?"
"No, Sophie, no."
"So, your assistant called and I told her you'd take the day off so if it's urgent, it should be brought to the house."
"I did see a missed call from work, but why did you tell her that?! Staying home today would be bad." I tried to explain but Sophie just looked at me like I had two heads.
"Set the table!" She ordered like she hasn't been listening to anything I've been saying.
I couldn't protest so I did as I was told and arranged the dining table.
"Why are we eating fancy this morning?" I asked as I was arranging the table.
"Because Mark's coming over for breakfast." She answered and turned off the stove.
"No wonder you were in the kitchen! I thought you were trying to take care of me." I rolled my eyes and shook my head.
"But I technically did want to make it for you but he called me early this morning."
As we both sat down on the table, the doorbell went off and Sophie gasped - causing her fork to fall on the table.
"What?!" I asked as I took her hand into mine.
"That must be Mark! I'm not properly dressed. Do me a favor and open the door while I go change into better PJs." She pleaded and I laugh, taking my hand away.
"He's gonna marry you and see you worse, so why not start now?"
"Never!" She yelled making emphasis on the R as as ran upstairs.
I sighed and headed to the front door, I opened it and I stood face to face with the guy I had a fight with yesterday.
"Wh.. what are you doing here?" I asked but I could feel my heart racing to know the answer.
"To talk about my wedding, what else?" He rolled his eyes and invited himself in.
"Oh.."
"I see you were about to have breakfast? I'm sorry for coming so early, even though it's like," he paused to look at his watch. "10am? Why are you having breakfast this time?"
"I woke up late." I explained and he nodded his head to show that he understands what I was saying.
"I didn't want to come to your house, but I had no choice. Your assistant informed me that you wouldn't come to the office today and it was urgent."
He didn't want to come here, okay.
"What's so urgent?"
"Penelope is pregnant and that's not a secret, so, after discussing with Penelope's parents, I decided to move up the wedding date."
Rub it in my face that she's pregnant!
"But the wedding date was moved to next week."
"Yeah, well now, it is in three days."
"What!"
"So now you've got three days to tie loose ends because I want it to go smoothly."
Wow.
"Okay, will do sir."
"Thank you and excuse me, Alexis."
I gasped at the mention of my name and he must have said it by mistake because he bit his lip afterwards.
"I'm sorry miss Poiner, it will take a lot of getting used to."
"No it's okay, you can call me Alexis!"
"Is that the truth or are you lying again?"
"Kyle.."
"What? I'm just trying to be certain, Because I can't trust you anymore."
"You can Kyle, you can."
"Can I really?"
"Yes! I swear that there's nothing I'm keeping from yo-"
"Hey Mommy!" A tiny but loud voice screamed me as the door opened.
