Chapter 40: Chapter 40
Sebastian looked at her bloodied mate lying on the dirt after Albarin threw her. He hurriedly lay her head on his lap. Sebastian stopped crying a while ago. He just stared at her motionless body. Sebastian felt numb, empty, and hollow inside. He's full of rage and couldn't even think straight. All Sebastian knows is that Cassandra's already gone. The love of his life is gone.
Sebastian looked at Albarin Magnus and glared. His response was only a laugh.
"My, my! What a sight!" Albarin said. "The young and foolish vampire prince who can't even protect his mate," he mocked. Sebastian growled viciously.
"You son of a b*tch! I will fucking kill you!" Sebastian roared in anger. Rage consumes his body. He took his clothes and put Cassandra down gently as he could. Sebastian took a deep breath and bawled his hand into a fist. He took a step forward where Albarin is.
"Crakshamel," Sebastian stated. He smirked.
"You think you can fool me again, Sebastian!? Well, think again!" Albarin shouted. He wrote something in his hand and said some spell. A cloud of dust appeared out of nowhere and began to form a shield.
"I will kill you!" Sebastian growled while grabbing the sword of his fallen comrade. He waved his hand, and blades came flying to Albarin's place but the shield he had ward it off.
"The feeling is mutual, Sebastian! I will be the one to kill you!" He said venomously. It happened suddenly, Sebastian found himself in front of Albarin, and their swords were clashing. Sebastian swung his sword and moved laterally, not wanting Albarin to have a chance to strike him back.
"Sebastian!" Alekxia shouted.
"Sebastian! I heard it! I heard it, myself. She has a heartbeat!" Sebastian stopped moving and jumped away. He looked at where his mate is. Sebastian quickly dropped the sword to the ground and rushed to his mate's side, but Albarin was also fast. With his superhuman speed, he blocked Sebastian's way so he couldn't reach Cassandra.
"Trying to save your mate, huh, Sebastian? I won't let you because I will kill you!" Albarin roared and swung his sharp sword, but Elijah blocked his attack. He looked at Sebastian and nodded his head.
"Ikrur has weakened. I'll deal with him, go to her," Elijah said while suppressing Albarin's constant striking.
"What should I do?" Sebastian asked desperately.
"The one thing you should have done earlier. Mark her, Sebastian," Elijah spoke.
"W—what!? M—mark her? But what if it fails!?" Sebastian worriedly said while ruffling his hair.
"It's better to see for yourself, Sebastian. Now hurry! Or she won't last," Elijah said. Sebastian stared at him and went to Cassandra with haste. Alekxia held his mate's fragile body. He took Cassandra from her and carried her safely in his arms.
"It's faint, but I'm sure I heard it!" Alekxia said. Sebastian watched her unmoving body and held her hand; he leaned to her chest and listened intently. Sebastian couldn't help but smile when he heard the faint heartbeat of Cassandra.
The tears started pouring down his eyes; he quickly hugged her. He felt grateful. Cassandra is alive. It was faint, but he was sure that she's alive and fighting for her life.
"Hang in there, my love. I'll make sure you'll come back to me," Sebastian said and kissed her lips. He could feel his fans growing. Sebastian doesn't care what will happen, but he will trust Elijah's word and save Cassandra. He will take the risk. Sebastian took one glance at her face and sank his fangs on her neck, sipping her blood and marking her, making Cassandra completely his. He stopped when he completed the process of marking her. He waited, waiting for a miracle to happen. Waiting for Cassandra to wake up.
And she did.
Cassandra gasped loudly, trying to catch her breath. She opened her eyes and looked straight into his eyes.
"Sebastian."
