Chapter 28: Chapter 28

CHAPTER 28: MY CONFESSION TO GRANDMA

My grandma's eyes widened as she saw me. I don't know if she was shocked because she saw me or appalled because I'm with a guy? I've never really brought a man home in my whole life because I am an obedient granddaughter.

I hurried over to my grandmother and hugged her so tight and cried, "Grandma, I'm sorry, please forgive me, boohoo, boohoo, boohoo…!"

"Why are you apologizing? I don't understand?" My grandma asked, astonished.

"I made terrible mistakes, grandma," I cried.

My grandmother was confused. She again asked, "What did you do tell me, and who is this handsome man with you?"

I was in shock when Leonard approached my grandmother and took my grandma's hand to shake hands, and then introduced himself as he smiled at her. "Hello, grandma, It's been an honor that, at last, I finally meet you. My name is Leonard Lee."

I signaled him not to continue what he was doing. I don't want him to be the first one to tell grandma. I'm afraid grandma would resent me, but he did not stop. Instead, he continued speaking, "I won't beat around the bush anymore. I want you to know that we came here today because we had something to tell you. I hope you won't get mad, I know it's sudden, but I hope you understand that we love each other."

I've been swallowed my saliva a few times because of nervousness. I don't feel like the outcome is good. "The truth is we got married already," he added.

My tears flowed even more at what Leonard had admitted to my grandmother. I can't explain how I feel, significantly, when grandma doesn't move at all. I'm sure she's furious! What if she got a heart attack? What am I going to do? I really can't forgive myself when this happens. I feel like my sacrifices were useless. 'Lord, is this the compensation already of what I have done wrong to Leonard?' I asked the Lord through my mind.

"Grandma, will you accept me as your grandson?" Leonard continued asking grandma with a long face.

"Oh, sorry if I didn't answer immediately, child, I was just astonished. But, of course, I am not against your marriage. Suppose that's what my granddaughter wants, as long as she's happy. Then, I'll be happy for her too. Just promised me that you would love my granddaughter, take good care of her, and never hurt her. She has been an obedient child and a thoughtful one throughout her life, but sad to say. She has no friends at all and is an aloof child. Now that I know that someone dares to love her, I'm so glad about it."

I hugged my grandmother tightly, knowing that she was not mad at all, and confirmed it again. "Is it true, grandma, that you're not mad at all?"

"Of course I'm not. Why would I? You're not a child anymore. I know that you have your own decisions in life, and I respect that, but I'm still offended that you never tell me until today." My grandmother said.

"Sorry, grandma, I promised I wouldn't keep a secret to you anymore," I said to her.

She looked at me in the eyes and said, "Promise?"

I smiled at my grandma and said, "Promise," Then we hugged again.

I'm happy that I resolved my problem with grandma, and it's all thanks to Leonard. Even though I made a terrible mistake for him, he still helped me for the sake of my grandmother.

I am also happy that he and grandma get along with each other. I can see how delighted grandma was while talking to her grandson-in-law. Leonard also admitted to grandma that he was a CEO in a prestigious company.

That's why I couldn't help but wish we were together. Hopefully, before one year ends, Leonard will change his mind and withdraw the annulment paper.

*****

We were at my grandmother's house all day until it was already evening, but Leonard still didn't tell me to go home. I was thinking, maybe he enjoyed my grandmother's companion, so I just let him.

Ms. Belinda offered to cook for us, and I'm so glad about it. We ate together with Ms. Belinda.

Leonard was impressed by Ms. Belinda's cooking. He even jokingly asked her to be our cook. Ms. Belinda just laughed at Leonard's offer. Leonard told her, "So, that means you took down my offer? Am I right, Ms. Belinda?"

Ms. Belinda turns to me while still smiling, "You know what, Alyssa, you are lucky to your husband; aside from being handsome, kind, and rich, he also had a sense of humor."

I just smiled at her for what she said. We continued to eat when grandma suddenly spoke and turned to me, "My granddaughter, can you spend the night here? You know that I miss you so much."

I was a little hesitant about what to answer, so I looked at my husband first to know if he would consent to stay overnight at my previous home before I could answer grandma.

Luckily, he nodded unto me; it's a signal that he agrees. I'm thrilled. I turned to grandma again and answered, "Yes, grandma, we will stay tonight."

Grandma smiled at me. I can see how happy she was with my answer, and seeing grandma happy makes my heart rejoice. I looked my husband again sincerely in the eye, smiled at him, and then I gestured to him by saying, "Thank you,"

He did the same thing to me; he smiled at me and nodded. I'm delighted today because it's the first time we've gotten along, and he's not mad at me. I hope it's not just a show, and if it's true, I hope it will continue.

*****

I took him to my room because my grandmother ordered me. I felt so awkward for letting him into my room because it was so small, unlike his vast room, and aside from that, I have much girly stuff there. Especially those posters I pinned to the wall of my room.

We are right in front of my bedroom door. I was hesitant to open it because Leonard was with me. I'm afraid he would make fun of me, seeing those masculine guys on my wall. So I turned to him with concern.

"Why do you seem hesitant to let me into your room? Are you hiding something in your room that you don't want to show me?" he asked.

"N-no, I don't hide anything," I insist to him.

"Then, open it," he commanded.

I don't want to against him. I didn't do anything but touch the doorknob and slowly open my bedroom door while my eyes were closed.
