Chapter 176: Chapter 176
The phone alarm brought Rong Zhi’s scattered thoughts back.
She frowned, casually swiping the screen to turn off the alarm.
She needed to watch the lab results, so she didn’t dare sleep too much. She lit up the screen to check the time—past 3 a.m., only two hours since she rested.
The laboratory windows were fitted with dimming glass and curtains; the outside light couldn’t penetrate, no view of any stars.
Rong Zhi rubbed her wrist bone as she got up, the data still jumping on the computer. The green progress bar showed 95%; she estimated the lab results would be out in five minutes at most.
Her throat felt a bit dry.
She went out to get water.
Bai Su and Jiang Gujun, she didn’t know what time they left. She was busy and didn’t pay attention.
Her phone had a message from Bai Su reminding her to sleep early.
Rong Zhi took a sip of water, didn’t reply, and kept waiting for the lab results.
She had some leads now but needed more accurate data to determine the medicine’s properties.
A whole row of reagent bottles stood by her side, filled with the same dosage of clear liquid, each bottle labeled with numbers.
Rong Zhi touched her forehead.
She looked at the No. 1 reagent for a while, moved her fingers slightly, and took out a syringe from the sterilization cabinet.
Two minutes later, she discarded the syringe and pressed a cotton swab against the needle point.
The effects would take a while; she gently inhaled, not prepared to continue mixing the medicine. She shut off the machines and lights then left the lab.
The room was very quiet.
Rong Zhi lay on the bed, her brain unusually active, even though it was nearly 6 a.m., and the bed was one she was familiar with.
She couldn’t fall asleep.
As time gradually approached ten o’clock, Rong Zhi suddenly got up. She looked through her phone to find Fu Yaoyao’s number and dialed.
The young girl answered quickly.
Rong Zhi held her temples as she got out of bed, speaking while walking, "Give me Yuan Xiyao’s location."
Fu Yaoyao let out a soft sound of surprise; curious but didn’t ask much, "Okay, I’ll share it with you soon."
Rong Zhi received the location she sent and opened it. It was an area in the east of Beijing, quite far from here.
In the afternoon, she needed to go to Lan’er Sanatorium and could pass by there.
Saturday, Qi Ruwen came to visit the patient.
Tang Xuyun said Qi Ruiqin was recovering well, expected to be discharged next month with proper rest.
He accompanied Qi Ruiqin for a chat, told him about signing a contract with Rong Zhi, and nodded at the end, his tone somewhat satisfied, "Initially, I thought she couldn’t handle big matters, but seeing her the other day, I realized this young lady is no ordinary person."
Qi Ruiqin accepted the Buddhist scripture handed by his subordinate, glanced up at him upon hearing, "What you say piques my interest in her, and it seems she shares the name with the chief surgeon who operated on me."
"No way," Qi Ruwen shook his head, "I’ve looked into it; Rong Zhi comes from a poor rural background, standing firm in the Rong Family is challenging enough. If she also knows medicine, it doesn’t make sense emotionally or logically."
Qi Ruiqin didn’t agree with this, slowly laughed, "You just said, she is no ordinary person."
While speaking, the hospital room door suddenly knocked.
Getting a response, the person outside pushed the door open.
Tang Xuyun stood at the front, beside him, a poised and relaxed young man lowered his eyes to look at his phone, casually raising his head upon hearing the noise.
Qi Ruwen was completely stunned; he pointed at the young man, mouth wide open, "Vice Manager Rong, what are you doing here?"
"Hm?" Tang Xuyun’s expression was puzzled, his tone questioning, "Didn’t Chief Qi say he wanted to see the Third Young Master?"
Qi Ruiqin raised an eyebrow, studied the young man’s bright and bold eyes for a while, quietly mused, "Are you Doctor Rong?"
The young man slightly nodded, "Hello, I am Rong Zhi."
"The ’Zhi’ in ’knowledge and manners’?"
The young man smiled softly, "No, it’s the ’Zhi’ in ’know your warmth and cold’. "
Aren’t they the same?
Qi Ruiqin froze momentarily, then suddenly realized, "Almost forgot, Doctor Rong believes in Buddhism."
He couldn’t help but reevaluate the young man, who calmly accepted his gaze.
Beside them, Qi Ruwen suddenly returned to his senses, finally connected the Third Young Master Rong in his mind with the relaxed young man in front of him, then took a deep breath, widened his eyes.
Goodness, are all big shots this capricious?
Not only is the project proposal well-written, but the medical skills are also quite impressive.
Qi Ruwen almost suffocated himself, abruptly coughed with his hand over his mouth, eyes still fixed on Rong Zhi, a sudden thought popped up.
Has Mr. Su known Rong Zhi’s identity for a long time? Did they know each other before? Is that why they signed her, to repay Rong Zhi for saving his brother?
But this doesn’t make sense either.
Mr. Su treats them well but not to the extent of using a national project to repay a favor.
