Chapter 80: Chapter 80
Just as Samuel was about to take over the job, the phone rang. He saw a phone lying on the corner of the work desk and it belonged to Ray. The screen was locked with a fingerprint, but he could still see the top notifications.
When he read the message, the corners of his lips twitched.
He thought, 'Opportunities will come even when you're not looking for them.'
He put his work documents on the table, randomly grabbed an employee in his office named Sasha and asked her to have lunch together.
The two of them visited a Chinese restaurant close to the office. As soon as he entered, his gaze hurriedly searched and when his eyes found a woman sitting by the window alone, he smiled faintly.
Two tables away there was an empty place and he immediately took Sasha to sit there. He deliberately sat sideways from Alexa's position, so as not to be too conspicuous. After getting the right position, he started to think of a plan.
He said indifferently, "Order anything, I will pay."
Sasha didn't talk much, so she ordered. She knew Samuel wasn't serious about asking her to join and knew that the man probably came here with a specific purpose, and didn't mind.
The atmosphere in the restaurant was quiet because it was now the last hour of the lunch break. Samuel suddenly had an idea in his head. He put his phone to his ear.
"Hello, Ray? Oh, so you can't come back?" Samuel paused, deliberately loud, "It doesn't matter, I know that you'll probably be accompanying Hailey since she's sick. It's fine if you won't be back until tomorrow."
When he looked to the side, he saw Alexa moving in place and immediately turned her head, but he immediately looked away.
Pretended not to see.
He put his phone on the table and smiled faintly. Waiting for something fun.
"It's from Ray," Samuel said deliberately.
Sasha asked casually, "Where is Mr. Sanders now?"
Since this question fell, Alexa who was also at that place pricked up her ears. At first she only heard a familiar man's voice, then she heard the man mention Ray. But didn't think too much about it. Then after a female voice said the last question, she was curious too.
They were two tables apart, but from the man's left side, Alexa clearly recognized him as Ray's friend, Samuel, who had a gloomy and cold face.
"Ray is with her fiancé right now, he is looking after her. I don't think he will come back today." Samuel answered.
"Isn't Mr. Sanders taking care of a project lately?" Sasha asked curiously.
"You're right," Samuel grinned without Alexa knowing, his hand supporting his chin. "But when his fiancé is sick, how can he prioritize work?"
Alexa almost choked. Startled.
His fiancé was sick? Which fiancé?!
Alexa frowned slightly, and a flash of unhappiness flashed through her eyes.
Not only him, even Sasha, who was only a small employee and not close to his boss, was also shocked. "Sorry, so Mr. Sanders is back with his fiancé again?"
Somehow Alexa wished her ears could be as sharp as a bat. Two tables apart, the voices of the two people behind them were not very balanced; the male's sound was loud and clear, but the female's was very small, like a bird's chirp.
Then she heard Samuel's laughter.
"Are you curious? Gosh, that's right. How could a handsome man like Ray not catch your attention. Even his love story is of great interest to many people. What a bastard!" Samuel laughed again, then continued, "I'm telling you, Hailey is indeed a lucky woman to have Ray. After they broke up, what do you expect from a man who love her deeply like him? Of course he will chase her again."
Alexa couldn't see, so unfortunately she didn't know Sasha's face was so stiff. The innocent female employee wasn't sure what Samuel was saying with how she saw Hailey throwing a tantrum after Ray broke off the relationship. It was clear who was chasing whom.
Sasha asked again, "So Mr. Sanders asked his fiancé to come back to him?"
"Correct!" Samuel said. "Even Ray has been coming to her house these few days to accompany her."
Alexa's heartbeat stopped for three seconds. Her heart became cold as ice.
For her to hear these kinds of words, she already had severe injuries to her ears. She almost couldn't stop herself from hitting the table, which Samuel immediately heard as he had already expected an interesting reaction.
The chair behind him shifted. The strong stomping of her feet sounded loud, immediately attracting many people to watch, except Samuel.
He squeezed Alexa's wound cruelly. "I think their wedding party will be announced soon."
As these words fell, Alexa was right walking nearby, she heard everything without exception. Her chest was immediately attacked by severe pain.
Unfortunately Samuel didn't have time to see her expression, but he still laughed.
Outside the restaurant, Alexa's head was already exploding with all kinds of bad thoughts. She was so angry that her nose hurt, her chest hurt and even her heart and lungs too. Then various suspicions immediately hit her head like big waves.
That was right! Once a jerk, a man was always a jerk!
What was it like to pay a debt of gratitude by inviting him to lunch together? This man didn't even deserve happiness! Regarding the clients who came in abundance because of the man's help, what could she hope for? Of course Ray did it to attract her sympathy.
Wow, that was great. She almost melted with this rotten man's hard work.
With exploding emotions, she contacted Jane and asked her to meet. Impatient, she finally ordered a taxi and came to Hamilton's large palace. The gate was opened by the guard and she was ushered in.
Jane was wearing a face mask when she came down the stairs in a hurry. "Oh my gosh, when I heard you were coming, I thought it was just a joke, but it turned out you were-eh, you are crying?"
Alexa only heard the last one and was stunned. "I don't ..."
She paused, her hand touched the tears that fell down her cheek and was confused.
"I probably got dust," Alexa explained quickly. She was not crying, okay?
Besides, why should she cry? She was furious!
Jane took her to her room and asked the housemaid to prepare some snacks. The door behind her closed as she asked, "Did something happen? What's wrong?"
Alexa's face couldn't hide the anger. "Yeah, something happened, something that made me angry. So angry that I wanted to strangle him to death!"
"Woah, wait! Who dares to disturb this sleeping tiger, huh?"
"Ray."
Jane's head turned quickly. "Ray? That Ray? Ray Sanders? The Ray who got you pregnant and pretended to forget? Are we talking about the same Ray?"
Alexa looked at her in annoyance. "Which other Ray do you think?"
"Um, no. But, according to how Ray acts, he seems like he's just an insensitive man, you must be misunderstanding him again."
Really! Hearing this made Alexa's feet feel like they had stepped on thorns. "Seriously, Jane! Whose side are you really on? Him or mine?"
"Come on, Lexa, is revenge even a thing?" Jane pressed her. "How long has it been since the last time? You didn't even do anything that could potentially be revenge."
Alexa was left speechless by her words.
She remembered all the events of the past few months. It was true. Could her actions be called revenge? Even when she should have launched a plan, she didn't do much. Suddenly just accepting anything and even accepting that she was almost proposed to by the man she hated.
Her gaze fell on her nails, confused.
"So what did he do this time?" Jane asked again while removing the sheet mask on her face, feeling comfortable for a moment.
"He's back with Hailey," Alexa answered weakly.
"Oh?"
"He even comes to her house every day! I didn't expect this bastard to be so disgusting!"
Jane frowned. "Did you see it yourself?"
"I heard that." Alexa snorted. "He even asked me to marry him and was affectionate with me, but he was still playing with other women, isn't that a jerk?"
Jane could barely top Alexa's words and she was confused about how to answer.
"We haven't seen each other much lately. He would occasionally text and say he missed me, but words like that can't be trusted anymore now. Oh, God, I can't believe this. I asked him out for lunch, he didn't even come or reply to my text, and I caught him going to his secret lover's place. I was so angry that my stomach hurt and I almost exploded on the street. Did he even think about repenting, Jane? He's already mentally ill, his crime is really serious! I think just by looking at his face, I would probably die right now. What a bastard who can't be considered clean!" Then Alexa stopped only to mutter, "What god of help? He's the Ghost of Death who always haunts people's heads every day, okay? Can we destroy him with verses of scripture?"
Alexa just stopped, but still with a bad expression on her face. Her hands crossed each other. She seemed to be in such a complicated state of mind, that the speculations in her head could drive her crazy.
Meanwhile, Jane blinked, barely able to process all of Alexa's ramblings.
