Chapter 68: Chapter 68
The car they were riding in arrived at the hospital yard, right in front of the emergency room entrance.
Ray leaned towards the person next to him as if to hug the other party.
Alexa's hand immediately stopped him. "W-What are you going to do?"
"I'll carry you inside."
"No need, I can walk myself," said Alexa firmly.
Ray looked displeased. "You're not fine, save your energy. If you're embarrassed to be placed in the front, being on the back is fine too."
'That's not the problem!'
"Have you decided yet?" Ray asked.
"... What's there to decide?"
"Do you want to be at the front or at the back?"
"I can walk. So, don't carry me. A woman has her pride too, okay?" She insisted.
Seeing that she could still answer affirmatively, he knew there was nothing to worry too much about.
"Then come on." He pocketed his phone and wallet, then remembered something, "Oh, wait ..."
Her heart beat quickly as his body drew closer to hers again. So close that she could breathe in the perfume he wore. She didn't know what he was going to do. But his manly scent, comfortable enough to inhale with her slightly congested nose, distracted her for a moment.
She instinctively closed her eyes, preventing unnecessary nervousness. Then the light click of the seatbelt hook made her open her eyes again.
"Why are you closing your eyes?" Ray asked teasingly. "You didn't think I would kiss you, did you?"
Her eyes trembled. "N-No."
Ray smiled, a charming little kind of smile. As soon as she saw it, her hot face boiled, so much so that she could boil water there.
Could being too nervous make someone's fever higher?
"Mom, are you still sick?" Fillo's small voice trembled, and Alexa immediately saw him.
"It's okay, sweetheart. Come on, come with me."
"Small children can't come in," Ray said quickly, opening the door. "Adam, find a parking place, accompany Fillo for a moment."
"But—"
Alexa stopped when Ray pressed her down on her seat. His hand covered her mouth, so that in that short distance they stared at each other for a moment, before he kissed his own hand.
"If you delay any longer, I will kiss you for real," Ray threatened seriously.
Alexa glared him.
Without feeling guilty, he got down and reached out his hand. "Come, Your Highness, hurry. I will lead you in."
Alexa rolled her eyes.
Reluctantly, she climbed down slowly, felt that her body felt a little heavy when she moved and her head was dizzy. Then she glanced at Fillo. "I'll come in for a moment and be right back. Be a good boy, okay?"
Fillo nodded.
Arriving inside, they were immediately captured by cold and indifferent gazes. Fran, who had just finished with another patient, and was still wearing gloves, told the nurse to check on Alexa.
On the thermometer, the number was quite high, Ray looked at it and was not happy.
Fran said, "It doesn't matter. She won't die in an hour."
Alexa, "..."
Ray, who was used to Fran's sarcasm, walked calmly towards him. "Does she need hospitalization?"
Fran, "No, but she needs to get IV fluids."
"That's it? Is there really no need to observe for a few days? At least two or three days?" Ray's expression was a bit anxious. "You look at her face, she's so pale. She's like a living corpse!"
Alexa, 'Sorry, if I'm like a living corpse!'
With this, Fran looked at him with a crooked smile. "I forgot, don't you want to be a doctor? Why don't you take care of her? Dr. Sanders must be very good with this patient."
Ray sneered.
"Why? I wasn't wrong. You didn't trust my doctor's instincts, so I told you to check it yourself." Fran made a sarcasm. "Even though just by looking at her I knew that her disease wasn't serious."
"Doctors don't examine patients by sight!"
"Oh, then I'm the first doctor to do it."
This bastard! Talking to him will make Ray die on his feet!
The nurse came from the installation room in a wheelchair. "Miss, I will put in the IV."
Fran told the nurse. "After that, take her to my room. She will be placed there."
After she installed the IV, Alexa was led to a hallway far from the patient corridor. The place was a bit inside and near the ambulance parking lot, like a special guest house. She entered a room. Inside was not spacious enough, there was a work desk and several books in the cupboard. Behind the cupboard, she saw an empty, neat bed and the nurse asked her to lie down.
"Wait, I'll lie here?" asked Alexa confused. "But, this seems like a private room."
"This is Dr. Ballmer's room," the nurse said smiling.
Alexa didn't reply any more, letting the nurse go and she sat quietly on the couch. The place was quiet and deserted. Being alone here made her uncomfortable. So she just stared at the drops of water from the IV bag entering her veins, feeling the cold sensation.
She really felt confused.
How could she face Ray now?
She deliberately didn't contact Ray at all because she didn't know what answer to give to his confession. She knew she had reached this stage and everything was according to her revenge plan, but, marrying Ray? That is a huge disaster!
In the end, due to thinking about that for two whole days without rest, she got her own karma. If she hadn't fallen ill and picked up Fillo on time, Ray likely wouldn't have come.
The sound of the door opening distracted her from her thoughts. Ray appeared from the closet with her son in his arms.
"Can't small children come in?" asked Alexa confused.
"Mom!!!" Fillo stretched out his hand to be reached.
"Fillo, be a good boy. You definitely haven't forgotten what I said earlier. You promised, didn't you?" Ray reminded him.
"Mn, I promise."
Ray rubbed his head and put Fillo on the bed. He gave him the box of milk he bought.
He looked at Alexa. "It's fine as long as he stays away from the hallway of the patient's room. And why don't you lie down?"
"It's uncomfortable to lie down."
Ray glanced at the small bed in the room and thought the same thing. This was a single man's bed. "Can you sleep on the couch? We'll squeeze each other. Let Fillo sleep here."
Before hearing her agreement, Ray lowered Fillo onto the bed. "Fillo, your mom is sick. Don't come close for a while or you could get infected, okay?"
"When will she get better?" Fillo sounded gloomy.
Ray pretended to think. "Hm, that's right. Maybe after you sleep she will get better. Want to try?"
Fillo became excited and nodded. Ray took the box of milk that had run out.
"Go to sleep."
Without answering, Fillo lay down and closed his eyes. Happily, Ray patted his thigh gently. It didn't take long for his breathing to even out as the child had already fallen asleep.
Meanwhile, Alexa didn't know what to do. She thought of another topic to chat about, but her brain wasn't cooperating. While looking around the room, she saw another door which was probably the bathroom, right next to the door there was a minimalist one-door cupboard and also a television.
"Is this a private rest room?"
"Yeah, he doesn't have a home. This is where he usually sleeps."
Ray sat next to Alexa and turned on the television.
"What do you mean he doesn't have a home?" Alexa looked at him confused. "Where are his family?"
Well, Fran indeed a grown man. But parents nowadays really not worried about their children's lives after leaving home. Did parents really not care whether their children have a decent place to live or not?
This reminded her of her parents kicking her out of the house. And she got a little sad.
Suddenly Ray flicked her nose. "What are you thinking about, hm? Fran's parents are of course at home, abroad. He really doesn't have a home here, his home is in Canada."
Alexa, "So far?"
Ray nodded. "Fran moved to Canada a long time ago, but for some reason, he settled back here."
"What reason?"
Ray saw her curious face and felt funny. But in the end he just shrugged. He leaned his back against the couch, one hand touched Alexa's hot skin and his face became displeased. If only he hadn't found out too late that Alexa was sick, she wouldn't have had a fever this high.
"Do you feel dizzy or nauseous?" Ray was a little worried.
"A little," she answered honestly.
He sighed and pulled her head into his shoulder. "Go to sleep, I will take care of you."
Alexa swallowed nervously as he pulled her close, his movements so gentle and caring. This made her uncomfortable. She diverted her nervousness by pulling away not too close.
"Um, you haven't answered me yet. Is there a problem with his family?"
Hearing this, Ray frowned. He knew that discussing family would be very sensitive for her. "There's no problem whatsoever with his family. He's just a man who is free and doesn't like to be bossed around. You see for yourself what his nature is like. If he provokes you in the future, don't take it to heart."
Alexa didn't think about it at all.
She looked at the room again, it was very simple like a small rental house for college students. "Being a doctor should have a lot of money right? Why doesn't he buy a house?"
"Maybe because it's troublesome?"
Ray couldn't possibly say that his family had given Fran a villa to stay in while he was here. That sounded very arrogant. He also couldn't possibly say that Fran lived here because he was specially paid by his family to take care of him.
"So, he's not married yet?" Alexa asked again.
This time Ray narrowed his eyes. "Why are you so curious? Are you interested in him?"
Alexa was stunned.
"You never asked anything about my personal life, my family, my affairs and so on. But why are you curious about Fran?"
The reason she asked about Fran was actually to break the awkwardness in this room. She just couldn't think of any other topic. She was afraid that Ray would discuss about marriage again.
She looked away. "Don't act like you're jealous."
"Yeah, I am." He was honest. "So what if I'm jealous? I'm so jealous right now. What should I do?"
