Chapter 64: Chapter 64
Ray had no reason to avoid his sister's text, so on his lunch break, he went to see her.
It was been quite a while since Samuel went on strike for reasons of revenge, just dumped all the work on Ray and he was really having a hard time managing things at the office. He got his karma. Therefore, working hours have become stricter.
A red-haired woman in a white blouse and blue polka-dot ruffle skirt sat at the end of the cafe alone. Just entering the front door of the cafe, Ray's heart began to tense. If his sister had stepped in to meet him, she would have been tasked with persuading him.
"Have you ordered drinks?" Ray asked before he even sat down, Yasmin's gaze at the glass window immediately shifted.
"I just arrived." Yasmin patted the empty chair. "Sit near me."
Ray pulled up another chair. "If I obey you, then I will get a beating. How old do you think I am, Yasmin?"
After being siblings for so long, Ray couldn't forget that habit even if he had amnesia hundreds of times. Unfortunately, Yasmin has slender and long hands. She easily pinched Ray's arm.
"Still dare to play around?" Yasmin glared at him.
The pinch didn't hurt, but he made a complaining face. "Women's strength is indeed terrifying."
"Come on, get to the point."
"Yeah, yeah, say it."
Yasmin looked at Ray closely. "Ray, do you know, you're causing trouble at home again. Those two old people are making a fuss every day."
Ray dodged it. "I didn't do anything."
The waiter came because Ray waved, he opened the menu and ordered coffee with brown sugar. He also ordered for Yasmin a low sugar one.
After the waiter left Yasmin continued, "You ran away from home and made everyone worry."
Ray, "Everyone isn't worried. They're just curious. Just think about it, I'm almost thirty years old, if I live outside, it's not a big deal. I'm already an adult."
"For all parents, their kid will always be a kid. You have to understand."
"Come on, no matter how you avoid it, I'm still an adult."
"Wait, we're not going to talk about age." Yasmin corrected and returned to the serious topic. "You definitely don't have much time to rest, so I'll get to the point. So, you said that you were going to marry a woman and it wasn't Hailey. Is that true?"
Ray shrugged. "So what?"
Yasmin didn't hide it. "Grandpa was against it."
Ray, "..."
This old man again disagreed with whatever he did!
How could he, who was already this old, still have to be taken care of by his family? Only he knew what was best for him. Moreover, this was about him looking for a life partner to accompany him throughout his life. Why did his grandfather have to interfere?
Actually, he was fed up with his grandfather's rules.
Oh?
"And Dad?" asked Ray.
Yasmin sighed. "Yeah, him too. If you go back maybe he will beat you to a pulp."
Ray stunned. Didn't recognize his family at all anymore.
Yasmin, "Don't blame them for this, they care about you."
Ray, "This is my personal matter!"
"When you plan a wedding, your family will judge your partner, Ray. That's normal."
"Are you going to oppose me like them?" Ray asked back.
"Why should I?"
"You're here to persuade me, aren't you?"
"No." Yasmin was evasive, teasing him, "I miss my sweet little brother."
His sister was really good at lying. Ray sighed. "I did ask someone to marry me, but actually she hasn't given me an answer."
This time it was Yasmin's turn to frown. If this woman was who her grandfather said she was, what else did she have to wait for after Ray proposed to her? Hasn't the goal been achieved? She must be one of those rich-crazed women who stole Ray from Hailey when they were already engaged, right?
Yasmin looked at him probingly. "You fell in love with the woman who ruined your relationship with Hailey?"
Ray was very angry when he heard that. "What the fvck do you mean? Who stole who? She's the woman I dated after Hailey and I broke up!"
Oh, maybe their grandfather's accusations were unfounded. Yasmin didn't regret asking Ray directly. She was really curious about her brother's true story.
"So that's how it is, with just a few moments after you broke up with Hailey, you have a new girlfriend?"
Ray wanted to explain nicely, he couldn't hear Alexa being accused. "I'm sorry for destroying your expectations, but I haven't loved Hailey all this time."
"Oh, should I be surprised?"
"Even if she's the person my mother chose, I really can't." Ray ignored Yasmin's teasing. "Do you think marrying someone we don't love will have a happy ending?"
Yasmin's heart hurt, even her lungs hurt when she heard that words. This little brother seemed to be talking like this on purpose to annoy her!
"I'm happy with Lucas," said Yasmin firmly. She didn't really love her family's choice of partner, but after they got through it, it wasn't bad.
Ray smiled faintly. "I'm happy if you're happy, Yasmin. But please don't force me to take the same path."
"Hey! Am I stopping you from getting married or something?" Yasmin's voice rose, she even hit the table. "I'm interrogating you. This is dad's job actually. You won't answer if anyone asks you, that's why he sent me."
Ray's eyebrows rose. "So you admit it?"
Yasmin stuck out her tongue. "That's another reason. The main reason I met you was because I missed you."
What complete nonsense!
Ray, "Are you done with all your questions now?"
"Not yet."
At this time, the order came. Yasmin stopped for a moment to take her coffee and stir it. She felt a little thirsty and drank.
She watched her brother. "You're much thinner than last time. Are you eating well?"
"Is this part of dad's jobs?"
"Yes."
Ray sighed. "I went to the gym to diet. I didn't realize that I had lost weight."
Yasmin looked at him in disbelief. "Fran said you hurt your hand. And was depressed after a breakup with Hailey."
Ray cursed in his heart.
Could everyone around him shut their foul mouths? Where should he keep his own privacy in this world, if everyone was working together to dismantle it?
"Yasmin, I'm telling you, I'm not depressed because of a breakup. Do you still believe Fran's nonsense?" Ray's eyes reassured her as if he was a god without lies. "As for hurting my hand, it's just a small matter. Men are used to getting hurt."
"Now, now, I believe in my sweet little brother. Don't be angry, okay?" Yasmin coaxed him like a baby.
"Can you not use that tone?"
Yasmin laughed innocently. "Want to order food?"
Ray drank his coffee. "I told you I don't have much time."
"Even though you don't have much time, eat a little. You have to take care of yourself. Don't make everyone worry anymore," said Yasmin gently.
There was no answer from Ray, he just mumbled lazily in response. He completely wanted to avoid this kind of topic. He knew what his family was worried about, but the more they showed it, the more unhappy he became.
In the end, Yasmin still forced him to eat some dessert. He didn't refuse this time.
She swallowed the soft cake that was melting in her mouth, made several happy sounds, before saying, "It's time for you to introduce that woman to me, right?"
