Chapter 47: Chapter 47

"I'm sorry." Alexa struggled to get up after came to her senses, only to find a hand wrapped around her waist. "Ray, I'm going to get up."

"Sit down for a moment, okay?" Ray coaxed her like coaxing a kid.

Alexa's gaze was blank. "Your hand is injured and I'm a bit heavy."

"You're so light."

Now not only was her gaze blank, but her mind was too. She felt like a disabled person who couldn't move and had to be fully supported. The hands on her waist were big, they felt burning hot like they were fire and burned her soul.

She sweated unconsciously. Moreover, when she glanced up, she found Ray's shady and warm gaze penetrating straight into her, sending chills running down her spine. She struggled again, wanted to escape as far as possible.

She didn't know what he was thinking now so her fear started to emerge. His gaze was quite deep.

What she didn't know was that he actually didn't think much about it. He was acting stupid in his head and remembered Fran's question.

'Do you think she is a good woman?'

The question kept ringing in his head, filling every corner of his brain like bacteria.

But he already had the answer, that of course, she was good woman.

He has always admired women who are independent and hardworking. Sometimes thinking that he wanted to embrace such a strong woman and lighten her burden. His thoughts were very easy and innocent, but when faced with her repetitive good attitude, seeing how she treated him, he felt something in his heart start to be touched.

It was something so deep inside, that even Hailey couldn't reach no matter how long she was with him.

Only Alexa can.

Fran was right, that at this age, what men need is not more lust games, but a touch of sincerity from a woman. Ray probably realized that sentence now.

"Alexa, may I ask you a few questions?"

He suddenly asked.

Alexa didn't struggle anymore in his lap. He was gently released her and asked her to sit in another chair. Her fear disappeared, but now she was confused.

She saw Ray order the servants to clean up the mess before looking back at her.

"Is something bothering you?" When she asked, Fillo stretched out his hand to be grabbed, she pulled the kid into her lap.

Ray gave a long hum. "I wonder, what kind of person are you in your family?"

Mentioning family only made her remember the past where everything was just pain. She smiled bitterly.

"I ... like what I show now."

She answered briefly.

In the past she was very gentle and loving, she knew very well that this nature of her was full of naivety and ultimately plunged her into a pit of suffering. This type of person deserves to be wiped out for the rest of her life.

"Your family treats you well?"

Alexa answered sadly, "Well, we've already unilaterally cut ties with each other. So, I guess there's no need to question it."

Although she didn't want to discuss this matter, she knew that her family was very guarded, they were very strict against anything deviant. When they first heard about her pregnancy, they would not give support, but strong anger.

She was kicked out of the house at a young age. Five years of hard life turned her entire cotton wool personality into stone. She keeps herself from being kind, and considers other people's kindness insincere.

For five years, she really stuck with it.

"Are you angry with them?"

Since this question fell, she didn't think of an answer but became more and more confused. "Ray, why do we have to discuss this?"

Ray was stunned, then laughed because he felt that he was quite presumptuous with every sentence.

"I'm sorry if you were offended," he said, looking at her. "But ... I realized that I don't know much about you."

Alexa put Fillo down who asked to come down. The boy almost fell over the same branch, before Ray caught him. "Be careful."

The two of them watched Fillo climb on the swing with the help of the housemaid.

"Is there something wrong if I want to know more about you?"

Alexa sighed in her heart. "There's nothing good about me."

"You didn't even find one of your strong point?" Ray urged him.

She didn't look at him at all, afraid that she would falter from the serious gaze she hated. Instead she let her cold hands squeeze together nervously.

Why is she nervous?

Does she feel like he discovered her secret? It can't be this fast!

But back to his question, she probably had a strong point in her, that was all she could think about.

"Hard worker?" She voiced it.

Ray didn't blink.

After she said it, he felt sure that she was very special. He asked, "Why do you believe hard work is your strong point?"

"Uh, I really can't discuss this."

"Alexa," Ray grabbed her hands which kept moving and felt cold. "I want to know about you because I have a reason."

Reason? What reason?

She only knew that everything Ray touched burned, even her liver and heart. She found many hot spots inside her chest thanks to that and she had difficulty breathing.

Revenge. Revenge.

Her thoughts must not cloud her original intentions. This man is a bastard. She couldn't believe him.

Alexa shook her head. "I'm a whore. I got pregnant without a husband. You probably just found out about this, yeah, I had a relationship without being married and dragged myself into misery. I know, I know you want to remind me how disgusting I am!"

Ray frowned. "No, that's not what I meant."

But she was already crying.

And it was a cry from deep within her heart. Where she remembers her hard work, suffering and misery after she became pregnant with Fillo. If she could hate anyone in this world, it would only be him, her son's biological father.

Doesn't he remember?

Doesn't this make the crack in her heart even bigger?

Ray saw her head lowered and her tears continued to fall. Her slender hands covered part of her face. There were almost no sobs.

His heart hurts.

He just wanted to get to know her, wanted to know that her strong points would make him believe that she was great. He didn't expect it to hurt her.

Alexa is very fragile and sensitive, he knew her tough attitude was only there to cover up her weakness. But he didn't think so. There was no woman as strong as her that he had ever met. She still stood tall and did not waver, proving that she had built the wall around her firmly.

She had stood on her own feet.

Seeing her crying, his heart was sad, he moved forward and pulled her into his arms. At first she was rejected. But he didn't force himself, and the head fell to his chest with a louder cry.

This was the third time he had seen her cry.

Every time that happened, he felt his heart ache.

“Alexa, if you need someone to depend on, why not think of it as me?” Ray rubbed her shaking shoulders gently.

Alexa didn't answer.

"You are a strong woman. But, no matter how strong a person is, they cannot continue to carry the burden alone in this world."

Alexa was still crying, even his shirt was wet to the shoulders.

"So, will you share it with me?" Ray asked, not giving up. "I mean ... would you try to believe me?"

Ray still didn't get an answer, but he knew she heard him and didn't want to push her. He gently cupped her cheek and pulled her to look at him.

Her white face was now red and moist, the corners of her eyes were slightly swollen. Ray wasn't happy to see her.

"Don't cry." Ray rubbed Alexa's cheek, trying to get rid of the redness with his own fingers. "Please, don't cry."

Her eyelashes trembled. "Ray ... I ..."

Alexa didn't finish her words because Ray's lips had completely covered hers.

... to be continued ...
