Chapter 11: Chapter 11
The sentence was too ambiguous for Jane to accept, so her forehead furrowed deeply as a sign of confusion. They had sat in front of the mirror after rinsing their faces. The water flowing down the cheek was immediately wiped carefully by the serving girl.
Because Alexa didn't continue her sentence, Jane asked, "What do you mean?"
"Are you sure the person you introduced me to is Ray?"
"Of course he's Ray, what do you mean by that?"
"Are you sure he owns the nightclub?"
"Lexa, do you think there are two owners of Veloture nightclub?" Jane's forehead furrowed painfully. "I'm telling you, Ray doesn't have a brother and ... the club has belonged to him since it was first built, not given to him by anyone else."
"But, don't you feel strange?"
Weird, huh? Jane actually felt the oddity, but only a little—like one chocolate chip in a big bowl of ice cream, as small as it was. Ray is still the same person she met years ago when she was a teenager and when she was a regular visitor. His beard, his body, his eyes color, his aura, his smile and his kindness; it was all still the same in her eyes.
If there was something odd, she couldn't find the right words to explain what was odd about Ray's current attitude.
"I don't feel strange," Jane answered.
"He remembers you, Jane. But he doesn't remember me at all. That should be something strange."
As if fire suddenly sparked on the tip of a damp match, Jane started to get a little provoked. "You're right."
Alexa didn't answer because her face was turned forward.
"Do I need to ask him? Come to think of it, I haven't discussed this with him."
"No need."
"Why?"
Alexa did not answer immediately.
"Jane, I suddenly feel scared. What if I really have the wrong person?" she raved afterward. "Here's the pattern; at that time the one you wanted to introduce me to was Ray, but it turned out that the one I slept with that night wasn't Ray. What do you think?"
"Stop the scary speculation, Lexa. You're not in the wrong."
"You weren't there when that happened to me. How can you be sure?"
Jane was speechless.
"Oh, my gosh, I really have the wrong person."
Again, Jane had no other defense.
Fillo tore the drawing paper with an annoyed face, bent down again on the floor to scribble a new drawing. The little boy had a passive nature from a long time ago, but he was the type who easily focused on something. While thinking about what answer to give, Jane continued to look at Fillo.
"I do not think so." Her gaze was still on Fillo when she said that. "You look at him. He has the same eyes as Ray."
Alexa automatically looked at her only child. She insisted, "There are many people in this world who have blue eyes."
"Okay, let's put it like that, but you can't deny that the shape of his face and eyes are a clone of Ray."
"That's enough, Jane."
Her face showed the same despair as five years ago. Jane felt her heart become too strong with pain. She couldn't see her best friend like this. So she immediately held Alexa's shoulder gently.
"Listen to me, you're not mistaken." Jane emphasized every word. "I'll ask Ray tomorrow, I'll make him an appointment."
"No, please don't."
"Why?" Jane almost lost her temper.
"Ray will think that I'm cheap. If you ask him, he'll think as if I have a crush on him."
"You do have a crush on him."
"I'm not kidding, Jane."
"Me neither," answered Jane, lightly. "You can't escape your fate, Lexa. Your brain is always thinking about Ray—since five years ago. You're always trapped in his circle, you're waiting for him."
That sentence didn't sound pleasant to Alexa's ears.
"I didn't expect him," she muttered wryly.
Her face had been wiped dry and looked shiny under the bright lights on the ceiling. Her eyelashes, which were still slightly wet, were stuck together so they felt awkward when she blinked. She stared straight at her reflection in the mirror alone. Her mind was blank. There was no one as if there was only a white room.
A pair of hands suddenly appeared from behind her, embracing her. The ten fingers were long and slender, with thin hairs in each cavity. The hand was in direct contact with the figure that suddenly appeared in the mirror image.
A face with an asymmetrical jaw remains silent without a smile, his beard is so tempting. So handsome. He was like the image of a rich nobleman in a great kingdom in the past. His figure was tall, beautiful and stunning.
That face resembles ... Ray Sanders.
"Lexa? Alexa?!"
The image of Ray was gone in an instant, as was the stinging feeling when a strong arm wrapped around her shoulder. She stuttered. There was only Jane showing a worried face. She rarely saw a face like this on her friend's face.
It turned out that half an hour had passed since the image in the mirror appeared. Which turned out to be just a pseudo-silhouette created by her subconscious.
Is this a sign that she is starting to go crazy?
"Oh, Lexa, please don't be like this."
A warm hug on her shoulder immediately lifted half the burden that she was carrying on her chest, making the tense turmoil in her mind melt away. Instinctively, she rubbed Jane's arm gently and sincerely. The scene lasted longer than five minutes, without a word being said. Through that touch, they calmed each other's troubled hearts.
Alexa felt comfortable.
"Do you want us to forget about this revenge? If you feel like this is hurting you, let's get out of Ray's sight, okay? How about that?" said Jane.
She grabbed Alexa's shoulders and turned her body towards her.
"It's okay if you want to go anywhere. I will be by your side. Forever."
Seeing the seriousness on Jane's face, Alexa's heart melted, she knew that only Jane was very sincere to her. "Dummy."
Her index finger poked Jane's forehead.
Jane stared her with a stupid face.
Alexa laughed out loud and wiped her tears. "How could I possibly let him go? I will take revenge until karma falls on him. Aren't you going to support me, huh?"
Jane's face still looked worried.
"Hey, I'm fine. OK? If you say Ray is sleeping with me, then that's what it is. He is the villain!"
She looked at Jane with a reassuring face and Jane finally nodded.
"I will take you shopping today. You must forget your bad thoughts." Jane said. "And you can't refuse!"
"Mn."
Then the woman who had been her best friend for ten years immediately returned to her original character. The skirt of her short dress was pulled down slightly as she stood up. The expensive bag was carried elegantly.
"There is still a lot of money left from my hubby. Help me spend it," she said.
"I have a salary from Ray—"
The sentence stopped in the middle because it had a sacred name in it. Alexa cleared her throat quickly to clear her tight throat.
"This won't work," she muttered suddenly, then looked at Jane. "Revenge won't work, right?"
"You decide whether it will work or not. Weren't you the one who convinced me just now? Why are you like this again?"
Alexa, "..."
Jane, "If you want to succeed, throw away your doubts, Lexa. Focus on hurting him. Remember what he did five years ago."
In the mirror, there was still a vague image of Ray without a smile. Then it disappeared when she blinked. This is truly a brazen illusion!
"Remember about Fillo too."
And that last words made the heavy feeling in her chest melt away.
... to be continued ...
