Chapter 66: Chapter 66
The stress of trying to start her life anew coupled with the revelation of the family she never knew she had had Van in such a tizzy that she blacked out before dinner and when she woke up there was a young woman taking her vitals whom she assumed to be a doctor. Her new family gathered around the bed looking concerned. It might take some time to get used to these many people around her.
"Judging by your symptoms i'd say you're pregnant. It could also be just stress but I will advice that you come to the hospital so we can do an extensive check-up."
Van stared at the doctor like she didn't know what she was saying. Van cannot be Pregnant it's impossible. Sure she'd felt a little queasy now and then and she'd react to the smell of certain foods but that didn't mean she was pregnant.
But now that she thought about it Van was late on her period and then it truly hit her that she might in fact be...
She couldn't bring herself to even think about the word as she suddenly felt short of breath like she was going to hyperventilate. The room was quiet–too quiet.
It took her grandfather’s outrage to snap her out of her shock and she realised that the doctor was gone.
Everybody was staring pointedly at her that Van suddenly felt exposed. She hated being put on the spot and on top of it all she had no idea what each of them could possibly be thinking at the moment. And then it hit her that she had nothing to be ashamed of, the doctor had said she wasn't hundred percent sure and that Van ought to under go some tests. If it turned out that she was indeed pregnant they had no business looking at her as if she'd committed a sin worthy of being stoned to death, granted, none of them knew she was married only Karl and even he looked like he was ready to burst a vein.
"Young people nowadays are so shameless!"
Van sat up in bed not really in the mood to fight with the old man but he'd gone too far with his unfair accusations.
"You of all people have no right to judge me." She said angrily. "You have no idea how my life has been all these years."
"That is no excuse for you to become a woman of lose morals! You are a disgrace to this family."
Van flinched, that hit close to home, it reminded Van of how she'd stooped so low to get her father treated but it was too late and he ended up dying on her even with that, grandfather had no right to throw it in her face like he had any incline how everything was for her, he don't know jack shit! Van was so furious her body shook as she fought back tears.
"And whose fault do you think that is?" she threw back hotly.
"Are you saying..." His face was red with anger as he inched forward with his cane.
"Felix!" grandmother cried. "The both of you please stop! This is not the time to be pointing fingers and putting blame on one another."
Grandfather glared at Van one last time before he stormed out of the room.
