Chapter 58: Chapter 58

Charlotte sat in a corner of the restaurant, her gaze firmly fixed on her birth father, who had no idea of the fact that she was staring daggers at him or any idea of who she was for that matter. Just seeing his stupid face brought back all the hurt that she had harbored right from when she was young and brought up the pain that her mother must have felt over the years as acutely as though she was the one who had felt it. The traitorous bastard was there, right there across from her with his stupid wife and adopted son or nephew, anyhow you looked at it and the imbecile’s wife. This was the man who had taken her father away from her and her brother and it was all Charlotte could do not storm across the restaurant and beat his face to a pulp, all their faces in fact. Her so-called father was there with his bitch of a wife, smiling as though he did not have a care in the world and Sebastian and his wife laughed along as though they did not have any problems at all, which she guessed that they didn't, considering that they were billionaires, a luxury that Charlotte and her brother did not have even till now. Yet that bastard was still not satisfied, no not until he took everything away from her and her brother.

“Boss, you're staring. They are bound to notice sooner or later that you're staring at them.” One of her bodyguards, who was now posing as her boyfriend informed her urgently.

“That’s okay. None of them knows me or who I am.” She assured him, but he still did not look convinced. At that very moment, Sebastian's wife happened to glance over at where Charlotte was sitting and their eyes met. It was too late for Charlotte to pretend that she hadn't been staring or for her to tear her gaze away, so she did not even bother. Instead, she raised her chin and continued to stare defiantly as a woman. To her utter surprise and shock, the woman gave a slight nod and smiled at Charlotte as though they knew each other, before turning away to continue gazing at Sebastian adoringly. That adoring look was enough to almost make Charlotte throw up in disgust. It was very clear that this imbecile was in love with Sebastian and from the smile that he bestowed on her after touching a hand to hers from across the table, Charlotte was guessing that the feeling was mutual.

“Poor, dumb Jessica.” Charlotte thought to herself. It was weird how quickly Sebastian had moved on. Jessica would not like this one bit.

Charlotte was still staring at Mr. James as she could not help herself. Suddenly, as though in a slow-motion, he raised his gaze to her side and their eyes met. Charlotte felt her heart nearly stop as she locked eyes with her father for the first time in her life. She had seen his pictures a lot and had seen him on the television several times, but had never met or spoken to him in real life. As their eyes met, she watched his own widen for a split second before they returned to their normal size. Unlike Sebastian’s wife dead, Mr. James did not smile at Charlotte or acknowledge her, but just kept staring at her with a faint appraising look that unnerved her.

“Do you think that he knows who you are or why is he staring at you that way?” Her bodyguard asked her.

“He doesn’t know me. The last time he knew anything about my existence, I was seven years old.” Charlotte scoffed, taking her eyes off Mr. James for a split second to reply to her bodyguard. By the time she turned back to face his table again, he had resumed eating his food and did not glance her way again for the rest of their stay at the restaurant.
