Chapter 57: Chapter 57

“I'm sure that Sebastian is very tired and I know that you love birds would want some time to yourselves. Go on now, you both go and rest. We will just do some of our stuff and then we can meet up later, ok?” Mrs. James said.

“Yeah sure. I could do with a good bath and a very long nap. Do you want to come with me or you'll rather stay here?” Sebastian asked Carol, taking her hand when she nodded, indicating that she would rather come with him. They walked in companionable silence to the elevator and took it up to their suite where Carol sat stiffly in an armchair, all the bravado of earlier fleeing from her immediately. Shyness took its place instead, and she was embarrassed that she had kissed Sebastian on an impulse. However, she did not regret it one bit and knew that if the opportunity presented itself again, she would take it in the blink of an eye.

“Um, should I run you a bath?” She asked when she could not bear the silence any longer.

“If it's no trouble to you, I'll appreciate it very much. Thanks.” Sebastian replied, pulling his shirt over his head so that he was left in his singlet and trousers. Carol stared at his strong, tanned arms, utterly fascinated. As she watched, he began to undo the zip of his trousers, so she quickly scurried off to run a bath for him as she had offered, and then came back to sit down, not knowing what to do with herself or why she felt so awkward.

By this time, Sebastian had taken off his singlet and was dressed only in his boxers as he rummaged in his briefcase for something. Carol stared at his large and broad shoulders, wishing that she could run her fingers over his smooth-looking body and see how it will feel like, but of course, she did nothing of the sort, and instead busied herself with smoothing the covers, which incidentally did not need any smoothening.

She was still doing that when Sebastian came towards her and took her shoulders in his hands, turning her to face him. Carol stared at him in surprise.

“You’re nervous.” He stated.

“Me? Nervous? No, no of course I'm not.” She objected, chuckling nervously.

Sebastian raised one eyebrow at her and shook his head. “You’re so easy to read, Carol. Don't worry, relax. You are doing good. Even I was almost fooled into thinking that you were in love with me with the display you put up out there. My uncle and his wife would not suspect a thing, and even if they do, who cares? But I just wanted to let you know that you’re putting up a good performance.” He finished, winking at her before releasing her shoulders and walking into the bathroom.

Carol heaved a heavy sigh of relief as soon as he left. He thought that she was nervous about pretending in front of his uncle and Aunt? That was not the problem at all. The problem was that she was seriously lusting after her pretend husband, who according to his own words, wanted nothing to do with her after their marriage contract was over. He was being nice to her, but that didn't mean that he did not mean what he had said, yet here she was, hardly able to control her lust. The major problem, however, was that she was not sure if she wanted to control it.

Sebastian slowly washed the sweat off his body, trying to keep thoughts of Carol and the kiss that they had shared in the lobby out of his mind. To be honest, he had never in his wildest dreams envisaged that the shy Carol would be bold enough to kiss him first, and especially in public too. He had surely also not expected that she would be so good at kissing that she almost made him lose his self-control right there in the lobby of the hotel.

The memory of that kiss lingered in his head and even on his lips right now. When he had spoken to her earlier before he entered the bathroom, it had been all he could do not to grab those shoulders and plant his lips on her ruby red ones again just so he could relive the kiss. If this was the way this vacation was going to go, then he was in one big trouble. At least back home, he could avoid her if the feelings were getting too intense, but here, they practically shared the same room so there was no way to avoid her, plus there was his uncle and Aunt who would surely notice if anything went amiss between them.

At the beginning of this whole marriage thing, he sure as hell had not realized how hot or desirable his wife was, and in fact had been confident that he would not be sexually attracted to her because she was not his type at all. Usually, Sebastian went for beautiful, tall, and confident women who knew just what they were doing. While Carol was beautiful, she lacked the confidence that the women he went for usually had, and that had irritated him to no end and pleased him in equal measure in the beginning, plus she was just of average height. Back then, he had thought that at least, he could avoid her and there will be no chance of him liking her more than necessary. It was later on he realized that what his uncle had said about Carol was true.

Carol was shy quite alright, but that was only when you first met her. When she got used to you or had spent enough time with you, she tended to loosen up and was good company. Also, he loved her kind of personality in that she rarely let things get to her and quickly bounced back from situations that got her down. Take for instance the events that had taken place just before they had come on this vacation. He had seen how hurt she was about everything some days back but now here she was as smiling and carefree as though nothing had happened. She wasn't the sort of person who kept a grudge for long, and it was evident in the fact that she always came back to talk to him no matter how many times he ignored her, so much so that he was starting to feel guilty doing it and had resolved not to do it again.

Sebastian soon realized that he had spent all of this time thinking about Carol, and immediately he realized this, guilt flooded his entire being. Jessica was out there somewhere probably suffering and in pain or something and he was here thinking about another woman? This was one of the major reasons why he had been against this marriage thingy in the first place. Everyone had given up on Jessica, but he could not do that too. He had not wanted to pressurize his uncle too much about it because of his health condition, but he decided that as soon as the time was right, he would do so again, and that time would be before this vacation was over.
