Chapter 12: Chapter 12
Arpit's POV
I couldn't sleep at night. In the morning, I got ready for the office. I had to meet Niharika and tell her about the conversation I had over the phone at night. I don't know how she would react but this is only what I could do. I cared for my family first, if she doesn't assure my family's security, I will resign. I made up my mind to resign amidst the turmoil and got ready for the office. I wore a black colored business suit and combed my unkempt hair.
I had a peaceful breakfast with my mother. She sensed my tensions but she thought I was worried about our health. Little did she know, I had got an ultimatum of a storm. Looking at her face, I realized she wanted to question my worries and I was not interested in anything. I knew my answers would give her more tension which could be detrimental for her health, so I got up picking my bag and left. I hopped into the car and began my journey.
While going to the office, on the way, I entered a lonely lane I take daily for a short route. A biker knocked on the glass of my car's window. I wondered what he wanted. I was about to lower my glass but my instincts stopped me ultimately, I didn't not lower the glass. Then, from nowhere, I saw five bikers moving in a circle around my car. It was threatening. I realized about the last night call and began to panic.
Two of them were knocking the glass.
I had no option but to lower down the glass.
One of the guys shoved the paper from the glass and all of them drove away.
"HOPE YOU LIKE THE TRAILER", it was written in big bold letters.
I received the call again from the same 'Private Number'.
This time I switched on the recording mode on my mobile and picked the call.
"Hello-oo Baby Boo.... Did you like this?", I heard.
"Why are you threatening me?", I asked stammering as a chill ran down my spine due to an unknown fear.
"Because you aren't working for me. I want her defeat and you can easily help me but you are baby Boo who is denying my lucrative offer."
"Why do you want her defeat? ", I asked, engaging in the conversation because I needed evidence.
"Why do you care Baby Boo? Okay, I am jealous of Niharika. I want her in my feet. She has got an international deal. She has got everything and my sales are declining. My company's name seems non-existent. I want her to feel the pain of loss. I want her to be ruined.", the unknown voice said with jealousy dripping from every word.
"I am sorry but I can't help you. I can't betray my profession". I repeated strongly. I tried to hide my concerns for Niharika and her struggles by my words.
"You will have to suffer punishment. I will see you writhing in pain when your family will go through the worst." I heard this and I felt devastated.
Before I could speak, the call was disconnected.
"Why God, why me?" My inner-me wondered.
I went straight to the office.
