Chapter 140: Chapter 140
“What are you talking about?” the guard who was reporting to Sara asked in both confusion and horror, unable to believe what the demoness just said and her intentions of taking their princess with them and have her killed, at first, he thought he heard wrong, but the intense way the demoness was glaring at them, as if she couldn’t wait to unleash hell upon their heads, made him realize that she meant every single word.
“And does your Lord know that the princess, who is his friend’s sister, is among the ones you are bringing?” Sara on the other hand asked calmly, her eyes seeing the insides of the demoness who was preparing herself for battle, which meant that things were far too serious than she thought, to the point where they couldn’t be solved peacefully.
“And do you think our Lord cares about her identity when she is a suspect?” Andrea gave the black-haired girl a vicious smile, it was fun toying with her, throwing her here and there with half truths mixed with half lies, “That princess of yours was there when our children were killed, she should and will be punished, stand in our way and suffer our wrath!”
“Alright!” Sara answered after a few seconds, her face a mask of ice, not turning around to address Nara’s surprised gasp nor the guards disproving glares, “You can have her!”
“What the…”
“Dahlia?”
“Over my dead body, that is!” Andrea smirked a bit more as she saw the girl pulling out a short sword from under her vest, a murderous glare in her pure eyes that shone like stars in the night sky.
“Last warning, leave, now!”
“And if we don’t?” Andrea didn’t get to finish her words as she felt the sudden courant of air rushing towards her, and the next thing she knew, a sharp pain erupted in her chest while the pure eyes were right in front of her, as if the girl was carried by the wind, she was way too fast than anything she ever fought against, Andrea released a pained gasp before her eyes traveled down to were the excruciating pain was located, only or her eyes to widen in surprise.
She expected to see the blade buried deep inside her chest with blood oozing from what she thought was an open wound, yet what she saw was different, instead of using the blade to stab her, the girl was digging the handle in her chest, not even piercing the skin, but the pain wasn’t that of a normal hit with a solid object, for she had felt it coursing through her body.
That wasn’t everything, Andrea thought as she tried to inhale only for air to be stuck in her thought as if it was made of gravel, Andrea tried to move away from the girl but before she could make a single more, tight fingers took hold of her jaw, digging holes in each side as the scarred girl forced her to look up at her.
“I am only sparing your life because of him, but don’t provoke me, demoness!” Sara’s lips barely moved as she whispered the words, a part of her, a darker part, wanted to squeeze the demoness’ beautiful jaw even tighter, she looked just like the other bitch, Geraldine, and was also close to him, how good would it feel to have her vengeance against the demoness, to tighten her hold until the bones crack under her finger like shattered glass, to see the pain and agony they caused her reflected on those terrified red eyes, to see blood splatter all around them and coax her hand, but she didn’t, even when it was so tempting, for she knew she would be turning to the very thing she hated the most.
A heartless deity.
It was not the path she wished for herself, Sara told herself as she remembered her goals, remembered how she wished to give everyone a better world, to fight the intolerance and hatred that lead to so much pain, including hers.
The other reason was him, the man who had her in his arms not hours ago, even when she hated the sound of it, the demoness was someone important to him, or his empire as she liked to tell herself, she was his second in command and she didn’t want t harm her, badly that is, it was better to pacify the fire between humans and demons instead of feeding it, for the peace, for the alliance, and for him.
“Now, gather your dogs, and leave my capital, and if you want to find the real culprits, I’d suggest you look for man with marked faces, but if you dared attack any citizens again, I will destroy you!” as Sara said the last words, the look in her eyes turned to one of icy steel, her passive ability kicking in, absorbing the demoness’ life force, and while she allowed herself to terrorize Andrea a bit more, the demoness felt her soul leave her body as it became suddenly paralyzed with the excruciating pain that didn’t cease until the girl released her face.
With the dark and agonizing ordeal that was her past, Andrea never thought that there was something that can scare her in the world, not even the Gods, she was too familiar with pain and too close to death to be threatened by any, the only thing that scared and saddened her was the thought of losing her Lord, but right then, as she stared at the scarred face and the cold eyes, she couldn’t help her trembling knees and the way her legs moved her a step back in fear, driven by pure survival instinct as she sensed the stronger predator, her earlier cockiness was no where to be found, not in the few seconds that took her to realize what happened that is, before another fear settled in her heart.
What if this abomination of a creature tried to harm her Lord?
“Very well!” Andrea said through clenched lips, knowing that what ever battle she would start with the scarred girl would be lost, swallowing her fury and the humiliation, she signaled for the demons with her to retreat.
“This is not over, Hybrid, if those low lives were proven to be the ones who murdered our children, then there is no power in the world that would stop us from taking our revenge, including yourself, and I believe you know what I mean by us!” Andrea put all of her strength and will power in her words as she looked at Sara with a defiant look, a part of her still terrified by the hybrid, but the sight of the butchered children helped her to push it aside for those mere seconds to deliver the threat, expecting the girl to reconsider or retort, but instead, the black haired girl nodded in agreement.
“Who ever committed this crime shall be punished no matter their identity, I will make sure of it, but I will not allow innocents to die either, now if you are down, leave, and tell your Lord of what I have said!” Andrea wanted to grab the girl by her short hair and smash her face to the ground for daring to order her but she chose not, and the way she mentioned the lord didn’t seem as hold any menace, but something else.
Seeing the retreating back of the demoness, Sara released the breath she was holding, once again pondering about the way she acted, she didn’t think when she launched at the demoness the first time, all that she knew was that her sister and people were in danger and needed her, and once she was at the demoness’ throat she couldn’t step back, with a gump, she turned around to meet the eyes of the person she cared about the most, only to find them looking back at her with uncontained shock and fear.
“Princess…” Sara took a step closer to her sister but the shocked Nara, who witnessed her advisor whom she knew and lived with for two years move in unhuman speed, causing air around them to simmer and flurry before taking hold of the demoness and threaten her in front of their eyes, couldn’t stop her feet from stepping away from the girl whom she just found out to be far more dangerous and ambiguous than she thought!
“W…what are you?” the shocked words were whispered in fear as Nara took another step back, making Sara stop her advances when as her face contoured in pain, showing how deeply hurt she was by her sister’s rejection who looked at her as if she was the most terrifying monster.
Maybe that is what you are! Sara shivered from her head to her toes as she heard the whisper resonating clearly in her head, taunting her, mocking her, and reminding her of the truth she has been ignoring.
“Princess, I…”
“You are what?” it was the guard who answered while looking at her in disbelief, fear, and even betrayal, stepping in front of the scared princess protectively while his careful and accusing eyes scanned the girl in front of him, the one he once cherished and respected until she showed her true colors, “What are you?”
“Hybrid, I heard the woman calling her hybrid, maybe she is a half demoness herself!” another guard shouted, his hand on the handle of his sword, his eyes both scared and menacing.
“A monster!”
“A liar!”
“She tricked us all!”
Sara didn’t know when the tears gathered in her eyes and when they fell on her cheeks, she couldn’t even see the faces of the people who said the words, her vision was blurry as cracks formed in her heart, the words and glares stabbing her where it hurts the most, and once again, she found herself in the shack, with the same pain of losing the only family she ever had, it was happening once again, only that this time, her only family didn’t die, instead she rejected her, with many eyes to witness it, bless it with endless accusations and curses.
Run! The voice once again whispered in her head, and even though it was painfully mocking, Nara couldn’t help but obey it and turn around, running away from all the hateful eyes, the ones that once admired her and made her feel like she belonged with them until the tiniest glimpse of her reality appeared.
It was never real! It was all but a lie! Dahlia was a lie, and so was the people’s love to her, while Sara was the reality, and so was her unsufferable loneliness.
But as she ran away, Sara couldn’t not hear the words that nearly made her heart stop, she didn’t turn to see her face, but the voice was one that she knew by heart, one that she couldn’t miss.
“Marred monster…Deviant…Stay away from me…You are unwelcomed here…don’t you dare come back!”
