Chapter 180: Chapter 180

The doorbell rang and Kyhe got up from the couch and brought his snack to the kitchen. His plans were to make Jhonia think he’s not eating, and she is to be blamed for it. The maid went and opened the door letting Jhonia and Kuwain inside. After entering the house. Jhonia came face to face with someone who paused her completely, it was as if she was frozen in time.

“Jhonia, are you okay? You suddenly look a bit, am not sure what to call it.” Kuwain called and asked her, as he claimed about why he asked his question.

It was as if she was stuck in time of what was playing before her eyes. Someone she knows and holds dearly like a father, a teacher from the past, someone she thought she would never see again. He is seated on the couch in the hallroom of the Knights home with none other than Kyhe’s father, Mr. Knight.

“Jhonia. Hey, are you hearing me?” Kyhe returned from the kitchen and saw Jhonia, he called her name and when she gave him no attention. He asked her if she was hearing him, while. Jhonia's eyes were filled with tears, her body was burning with heat, anger flowing through her veins.

“How could you, and to me?” Jhonia asked as her tears went down her cheeks. Shocked was Kyhe, Kuwain, and Mr. Knight. The man stood up and walked over to her, giving her a hug and a small pat on the back. Jhonia left with him, and the males stood speechless.

“What just happened?” Mr. Knight asks, looking at Kuwain and Kyhe, who is still in shock.

“Oh, Kuwain you are also here, good you can meet my brother and where is Jhoni- Where is my brother?” Mrs. Knight came from the kitchen with a smile. She sees Kuwain and says to him but while asking for Jhonia she cuts herself and asks for her brother as her smile vanishes.

“Well, he took off with Jhonia.” Her husband said to her, and the smile that was lost returned to her face.

“Oh, don’t worry they will return once Jhonia calms down. She’s probably very upset” she said and told them not to worry about it, now all their attention turned to her.

“Seeing as you’re all looking at me. Well, little Augustia, that my brother often talked about, was and is Jhonia.” Mrs. Knight said looking at them, she then told them who the little Augustia her brother speaks of is Jhonia. Her husband became relaxed.

Kyhe and Kuwain were in shock as to why they would leave together and how they knew each other. Kyhe, especially believes his uncle from his mother's side was a man who lives in a place away from people, because he has been there. But to think that he would know Jhonia, who is considered as a city girl, makes no sense. Moreover, the place she once lived in is hours away from where his uncle is living.

“I wan”

“It’s okay, I had no idea either but since he decided to visit us and not the other way around. He asked me to look for a girl called Jhonia Smith. I asked who she was, and he told me she was his little Augustia and that she was like a daughter to him, I didn’t believe him. However, when he told me about Jhonia’s parents it made sense. Apparently, he was keeping her safe from someone named Brian, I believe. That much is what I got out of him. Kyhe if you wish to go and check for yourself. You may go to her apartment, that is where she would take him since he’s like a father to her.” Mrs. Knight said to Kyhe but he didn’t even blink at her. She said to clear the air, she (herself) just found out and how she came to know it. She told him what was told to her by her brother, and she didn’t believe him at first, but she did when she heard about Jhonia’s parents from him. She told him about Jhonia’s uncle and Kuwain put a hand on Kyhe’s shoulder with a nod when he looked at him. She called him by his name her voice wears down with worry of what might be going throw her son’s head and said to him and told him where they would be and why. Kuwain took Kyhe by the hand and left the house with him.

“It’s a lot to take in man, I know. But the person who tried to shoot Jhonia was her uncle, his name is Brian. And I think the woman I returned to the city is her mother. You know how she was sure that her mother should have survive, it’s the same kind of sure that woman has about her daughter.” Kuwain took him to the car and said to him, he then explains who tried to kill Jhonia, worse he thinks her mother is the woman they brought back to the city and explain why.

“It’s not fair. She doesn’t deserve this. Nearce put her through so much, I don’t want to be like him, I don’t want to be someone who gives her pain. You have no idea what it was like seeing her like that. I felt like it was my fault, like I was the one who made her felt like she was abandoned and not my uncle.” Kyhe said to Kuwain with tears in his eyes. He told him what she doesn’t deserve and why, but he adds that Kuwain has no idea what he felt when Jhonia cried because of his uncle and how he felt like it was him making her cry and it pains him more.

“So, you don't want to go to her?” Kuwain asked him. Kyhe stood staring at him as if he wished he could read him and know that he wants to go but he is afraid to go.

“Look Kyhe, you are my friend and I have seen you pass through a lot of women. But with Jhonia, you’re a whole new person, you became thoughtful, and responsible etc. You go out of your way to help her build Sky, that was not like you, and I know because I know you. Jhonia changed you, she changed you, she made you want to live, she even made you buy a goddam ring that could buy a whole community or more. The point is Kyhe, you made her happy by just being who deserves to love her. You gave her things she didn’t even know she needed and made time for her even when she’s mad at you. Fuck's sake, I don’t know who is protecting her but sometimes I feel like it’s you, like you’re living a double life.” Kuwain spoke to him in a way he knew he would understand. Jhonia language. Her name is everything to him, her name is like her entirely. Kuwain wanted him to understand that she changed him not because he wanted to but because he loved her, because she was the only one who came by and made him sweat. She wasn’t easy to get, and he would go out of his (Kyhe’s) way to ensure Jhonia has everything and is happy. He points those out to him and shows him a light of himself in Jhonia’s life, he now is someone who wants to put his best foot in front and that is because of Jhonia and that is his happiness. He reminds him of Jhonia protector and how he felt about it, and who he believes it to be.
