Chapter 22: Chapter 22

"He's mine." She didn't realize when she'd said it, but her heart was hurting like crazy, and she needed to establish her dominance on him. Kaitlyn turned, confused just as Aiden did too. Aiden squinted his eyes at the woman standing in front of them. Kaitlyn had never had a competition so close to her astounding beauty as this one. If Kaitlyn was a ten, this woman would be a one and that was the closest anyone could get. Why Did he feel so drawn to het? Why did she make his heart race? Kaitlyn scoffed. "You got bored of Chris? And came after Aiden? You're going to stoop that low?" Aiden turned to her. Why did he want to tell Kaitlyn to stop talking to her like that? Kaitlyn was still...Kaitlyn. Beautiful, breathtaking Kaitlyn. Why did he feel like both of them were holding him in the middle as the prize of a tug of war game and Kaitlyn seemed to be losing strength? The woman was average looking, but her scent...oh moon goddess, her scent. No scent matched...except Kaitlyn's. Kaitlyn stepped closer to him, and her scent overpowered that of the other woman. He felt torn, between the two distinct scents. Each beautiful, each strong, each soothing, but he was only in love with one, and felt this strange urge to be with the other. Linda bit down on her lip. "Get away from him, Kaitlyn. He belongs to me." Linda didn't care about Chris, or Kaitlyn. She needed this man. And she had to have him. Kaitlyn gave a smug smile, before turning Aiden's face to hers. He would never miss a chance to taste her, and he leaned in, taking her lip between his. It was another one of their beautiful kiss, and it would have stayed that way, had the sharp pain not cut through his chest like a thunderbolt. He fell on his knees with a sharp grunt. "Linda!" He screamed. He didn’t know anyone with the name, and he didn’t have the time to wonder how the name rolled off his tongue so smoothly, and somehow offered him solace. Kaitlyn’s eyes widened as a smug smile spread across Linda's face. "What have you done? Are you really that shameless?" Linda stepped closer to where Kaitlyn was holding Aiden who was now too fatigued to say anything or do anything. She pushed her away, then grabbed Aiden so he was leaning on her. Kaitlyn watched, her heart sinking as Aiden looked visibly better once she took him. "Aiden.." He didn’t turn to her, or acknowledge her presence. He just leaned closer to Linda, inhaling her scent, closing his eyes like he was breathing life. "My mate." He said, turning her face so she looked him in the eyes. "You're the one." Kaitlyn's heart jumped to her throat. Mate? Aiden's mate was…. Linda? Her mouth fell open as her brain struggled to digest the information. She'd wasted two years of love for a man that would be taken away from her by the moon goddess to give to the woman who had taken away her own mate? The tears rolled down freely, no inhibitions. Her heart tore into pieces as she sat on the grass, her mouth open, her normally clear eyes turning red.

"Unbreak my heart..say you love me again...."

Linda laid him on the bed, his eyes closed. The pain had been too much to hear, and even though been with her had healed a little, he couldn’t bear it and had fallen asleep. She drew back and watched his face. He was beautiful, with the most astonishing eyes. His perfect red lips were set in a small pout as he slept peacefully, his brows slightly furrowed. She sat next to him on the bed, her face smiling. This man was standing between her and all her ambitions, so why did she find herself smiling at him? She ran a single finger across his face and closed her eyes. He felt perfect, and she hadn't even touched him yet. When she opened her eyes back, it was dark, her intentions reflected in them. She felt like a beat, and she didn't even k ow why. But it had to have started with this man, and it will end with him. She leaned in and kissed his forehead, her hands in his hair. She felt involved as she did, her eyes switching, showing the dominance, or the fight for it between her and her wolf. She let it control her, without turning. She traveled her tongue down, till she got to his lips. She drew back a bit, as if keeping that as the best for the last. She trailed small kisses down his neck, each one sending her off to a new dimension, farther from her senses, exactly where she wanted to be. She started to unbutton his shirt with one hand, while the other impatiently caressed his stomach, trying to grab as much skin as possible. It was still morning, but she was going to have him, asleep or not. He was hers to take, after all.

Kaitlyn sat there, her eyes now dried. She had exhausted tears, and none could fall now. "Linda!" It felt like a knife to her heart all over again, but she couldn't blame Aiden. Linda was his mate, and mates are for each other. So what about her? What would she do? A mate bond, they say is stronger than any other bond, as the moon goddess had made it herself. Chris had broken his with her, but she felt Aiden wouldn’t.. He was proper. He was gentle. He would never want to hurt anyone like that, most especially not his mate. She dragged herself up, feeling more like an empty body than anything else, and dragged herself home.

"Kaitlyn. You're back.." The alpha's voice trailed off as he saw her, her scattered hair, her tear stained face. "What happened to you?" She smiled, but it only scared him more. "I will get married to Chris, by sunrise tomorrow, daddy."
