Chapter 20: Chapter 20

"If loving you is wrong, then my heart won't let me be right."

The dusk was upon them, but being nocturnal, it wasn't exactly a signal for them to leave. She was resting on his shoulder as he watched her, their posture making the perfect picture of love. "I am sorry." She started to say, but he simply shrugged. "It already happened." "Doesn't mean it was right. None of it was." He shook his head. "No. Our love was right. Or at least what I felt for you was right. And..I.." She sniffed and he stopped talking. What he felt for her had been right. Was still right. Will forever be right. And even if it wasn't, he didn’t need to be. He would be happy in the wrong and nothing else would matter. "I was so clueless, Aiden. Maybe I should have told you." She lifted her finger so the ring was in front of him. He couldn't believe she still had it. "This... When you gave me this, I should have told you, Aiden. I'm sorry. I know I was wrong. I know it makes it all seem like a lie..." "My love isn't a lie. Your love for me wasn't a lie.... One lie wouldn't make everything a lie. But at that point, and for a lot of time after that, I was too blinded by my hurt and anger. Then Chris...he became the alpha and your mate. You wouldn't look at me twice. That's what I thought. He was a beta. The only man close enough to be with you. To suit you." He stopped and yanked at his hair, causing him to give a low groan. The emotions were turbulent, and he wondered if he would ever have her peacefully, without complications.

"My heart will go on..."

She looked up to his beautiful profile and raised a hand, then caressed his cheek, so her fingers left a light feathery feeling. He turned and she blinked rapidly, then cupped a side of his face. "This might sound absurd to you, but whenever we offered prayers to the moon goddess, you were my prayer point. I wished for you upon every shooting star, and fallen lash. I hoped for you every time I closed my eyes and yearned for you every breath I took. I wanted you with everything I had, Aiden. Nothing hurts more than mourning the loss of someone who's still alive." His breath came in small labored gasps, but he didn't care. He pulled her closer, cupping both her cheeks, letting her hair fall back. She raised her head to him, her expression tender. "I.." "You are not really the one for words, Aiden." She said, referring to the first time she'd proposed to him. He chuckled. "I guess so." He said and kissed her.

"With the taste of your lips I’m on a ride..."

He parted her lips slowly, taking his time to savor the taste he couldn't get off his mind for two years. What else could he need right now? Absolutely nothing. He had all he wanted, and needed. Right here. In his arms. He broke the kiss, then kissed her hair, her forehead, her eyes, her nose, her cheeks, her chin, then her lips again. He wasn't getting enough of her, and he never stopped waiting. He was made for loving her, he was addicted, and he didn’t care where that addiction took him. His heart could be broken, but if she was the one doing the breaking, he would take it with joy. They soon broke apart again, trying to catch their breaths. She opened her eyes slowly, her teal orbs darker.

"I was made for loving you. Even though we may be hopeless hearts just passing through..."

"I missed you. More than I can ever convey, Lyn. Sometimes I wished I wasn’t so much of a coward. Sometimes I thought you deserved better. But...it would kill me to see you with anyone else. Lyn.." He was rubbing his thumb slowly across her cheek, sending jolts of electricity through her over and over again. She nodded and wrapped her arms around him, so they were entangled. "It wasn't easy." She voices and he shook his head. "It wasn't." He added and the sat in silence their hands intertwined, her head on his shoulder.

"I will walk you home, Lyn." He said after some time, standing and stretching his right hand. She looked at his outstretched hand. "Thanks." He nodded as she took the hand and he pulled her up to him. She came on him, his hands going to her waist to support her. She smiled, before tucking her hair behind her ear, and blinking at him. He watched her, amusement dancing in his eyes. "You're still the same. The same woman I fell in love with." He was looking down at her and she nodded. "I am glad I am. I would hate for you to lose..." "I would never lose feelings for you, Kaitlyn. You make me live. The thought of you keeps me going." He leaned in again, this time only leaving a small kiss on the side of her lips. He started to pull away, before she pulled him back to her. He laughed at her gesture, then kissed her properly. He walked her home and sometimes he would stop to just hug her, or bury his nose in the crook of her neck to fill himself up with her scent, or she would stop and demand a peck, or just watch him to make sure he was real. When they both got back the idea of sleep was too far away, too distant. Reality was finally better than the hopes and dreams, and they had no need to escape from it. In fact they wished it would drag on for much longer. She twirled the ring in her finger and sighed happily. "I love you, Aiden." He hugged the teddy, burying his face in the stomach area. "I love you, Lyn."

"And everyone knows that all I need is you.."
