Chapter 19: Chapter 19
Aiden's eyes widened, his heart fluttering. Something he handy felt in two years. His heart feeling like it has wings. Like it could touch the sky if he wanted to. "I missed you, Aiden." She didn't release him, hell, he didn't want her to. She could stay in her warm embrace for days straight, and he wouldn't care. Her breath tickled him as she spoke, and he closed his eyes. Kaitlyn. Moon goddess, Kaitlyn. She released him slowly, not quite moving away. She didn't want him to leave this time, she couldn't afford to lose him again. In his arms was where she belonged, and she knew it. "Kai..." She out a finger on his lips. He looked at her, and she dropped it. "Lyn."
"I should be over all the butterflies, but I’m still into you. And baby, even on the worst nights, I’m still into you."
Her eyes closed as he said it. She'd missed him. Too much. Way more than she thought she would, and she'd envisioned a lot. The chief was standing behind them, and all the omegas all marveling. Some of them knew about their friendship, others didn't. But it was still a scene to watch, the way she looked at him, the way he looked at her. Like gems. Like two broken hearts mending, becoming more beautiful, bigger, more accepting, filling up, gaining wings , and a touch of gold. She held his hand, and the electricity passed through both their spines. She almost smiled at it. He still had it in him to make her feel beautiful. She looked at him one last time, before dragging him out. "Well, that boy is good for something, isn't he?" The chief remarked, then turned clapping. "Back to work, stupid omegas! I don't even know why I am stuck with you bunch. Back to work!"
"I'm standing in a crowded room, if heaven's a place then it was made for two. I swear that you're perfect, I don't deserve this, a night with you. But I’d love to spend my life with you."
He watched as she bent, panting for air. They had fun a few miles, away from the crowd, the restaurant, a place where no one could influence their decisions apart from the things they felt, the things their hearts knew to be right. He watched her silently, his mind willing himself to build a resistance, so she doesn't break his heart again. She took a while, almost as if she was regretting her decision to come to him and drag him out, and she didn't want to straighten and look at her mistake in the eyes. "Aiden." She said just as he was about to let the insecurities drag him away again. "I know what you're thinking." She straightened, but looked straight ahead, availing only her profile to him. "I just don't know how to look at you." She swallowed. He Sighed and sat, supporting his face with his hands. "Will you let me take the initiative for once, Kaitlyn?" He said and she blinked, turning to see him sitting on the grass, looking up at her. She swallowed and nodded before sitting next to him, making a point to not leave space between them. He sighed. He was thankful it didn’t show on his eyes. He was thankful she didn't know about all the tears. And he hoped when they leave today, they would at least be cordial. "How have you been, Kaitlyn?" She looked at her fingers. "I survived." She did. There were times she didn't think she would, but she did. And there were times when it hurt so badly, she felt death was the easy way out. But she had lived through it, and now, the single fact that he was sitting close to her, she could feel all the wounds inside healing. "I did too, Kaitlyn. There were times I thought I wouldn't." He said calmly and she nodded. She didn't need to say it, she knew he knew. "Can I just ask you something, Kaitlyn?" She turned to him, giving him her full attention. "Why did you invite me there?" Her brows furrowed. "To my coming out?" He nodded, his eyes turning a bit cold. She shook her head. "I didn't." He chuckled. "You have to believe me, Aiden." She could feel the friction already. If he didn't believe her, this, everything, would be lost again. "I didn’t invite you cause i didn't want you to know. I know, I lied. You didn’t deserve to be lied to like that, but Aiden, i wanted You. I wanted you so badly and I knew you wouldn’t want anything to do with me, once you knew I wasn’t an omega. You would want to avoid all of this without giving me a chance, Aiden I was scared." Her hands and voice were shaking now as she struggled for the right words. He watched her shake her head and look up again, his silence apparently a reflection of disbelief, and a signal to try convincing him. "Aiden...I didn't invite you." She said again, but her tears broke out and she lowered her head. He couldn't take it. His tears were like needles under his eyes, hers were like arrows to his heart. He would never let the woman he lived crying like that when he could comfort her. When he knew how to comfort her. He held her hand and before she could look you completely pulled her to him, and kissed the tears out of her eyes. He then pulled her to his warm embrace, this time holding her like you would a liver, a lover who mean the world, the heavens and everything in between. A lover who'd strayed, but was back home, a lover who has been dearly missed. "I don't know how, Kaitlyn, but we'll sort all of that later. Right now, I just want us. " she nodded. What he wanted matched what she wanted, and she couldn't wait.
"How long will I love you? As long as stars are above you, and longer if I can."
